For the past few years I have rented an EVC for DW. I had Knee Surgery and it left me with severe arthritis in my knee. This time we are going for just one day and I think I will be OK with out the EVC but I can not do stairs or standing for long periods on time (15-20 minutes with out real movement). Is there anything I can do or do I have to avoid those rides?

You would probably be best off spending the $30 and do a one-day rental at the park. There is a lot more walking than most people think about, an average person does 8-10 miles in a day at WDW. Possibly start off without the rental, but then get it if you even begin to feel uncomfortable.

I think even if you are going to the park for just the day you should go ahead and spring for the ECV.
