How have you saved for DW?

Well, let me say first that I'm so impressed with what all of you do to get to WDW!:thumbsup2
Secondly, in the past (for WDW and other big family trips) I've done the change jar, garage sales (made $1000 in three days last summer!:woohoo: ) and used our Disney Visa (still do that one!).
However, this upcoming trip is bittersweet in that I'm using my inheritance (sp?) from my late grandma:angel: . There's a lot (I mean a lot!) of other things we could be using the money for (and we'll use some of it for those major things), but I told my DH that my grandma would not want me spending all that money just to pay the bills; she would have wanted us to do something together as a family. So, we're on our way!

I started in April saving $50 from each paycheck at work. If everything works out, i'll have saved nearly $1,200 by my September 2008 trip & that doesn't even include my tax return which I may use to finally see Disneyland.

Winnings from my trips to casinos pay for our visits to WDW :) Oh yeah, I play blackjack.

How have you saved for DW?

I "force" myself to save by being a member of the Disney Vacation Club. Because I have a certain number of points each year, I have the maintenance fees taken from my checking account on a monthly basis.

So, with the funds being withdrawn regularly, I am ready to go on vacations as I plan them.

It has help me a lot.

aaah let's see:

My change goes into a jar with the pop can money. This money goes for disney dollars. I buy stuff a little at a time. Just purchased my airline tickets yesteraday. Make payments on my disney vacation a little at a time.

And the number #1 killer is:

I work like a dog during the day with overtime to pay for my trips.

And the rate my husband is going right now he will be lucky that I ever take him on vacation to disney. Sorry he is getting on my last nerve right now..Boy I could really save even more money right there by not taking him.

:rotfl: Amen sista!!!

We save $200 a month just for travel but that goes for more than Disney. It also covers mini trips and trips to Texas to see kids.

We also each get an 'allowance' that covers lunch out, hair cuts, clothing, books, CD's, etc. For my solo trip that I'm paying on my own, I saved half of my monthly 'allowance'. (Yeah, I need a haircut and could use some new clothes but I got priorities- you know) I also started a couple of years ago working as an Election judge. Pretty easy work but long day. Nice though, that I only work 3-4x's a year. I also started this year working at sporting clays shoots. My DH shoots quite a bit but also judges some big shoots to make some $. He trained me to judge and I took a test to get certified. I work about 8 days a year doing that. Both of those incomes go straight into my savings.

Oh yeah, I use my Disney Visa for everything. Pay off when bill comes in. So the rewards add up. Over 16 months, I've saved for my solo trip $2000 and I'm not spending all of that so I'll save that for my next trip.

I do that too and it does help. Having paid for the contract up front, my lodging is covered, so the yearly maintenance is all I have.

I do have another trick-my flexible benefit plan for my out of pocket medical expenses that my company offers. If you're not familiar with how they work-you have money withdrawn each pay period BEFORE taxes and as you incur out of pocket medical expenses (prescriptions, glasses, co-payments for MD visits, etc) you submit a form to be reimbursed with cash out of that account. I take those reimbursements and have them deposited in a savings account that I use to pay for my airfare, my limo to Newark, my petsitter and my spending $$ for Disney.
