We are going on our first cruise in January. Have a few questions?

Should we get a beverage package?
Is their Poker in the Casino?
Are excursions worth the cost?

Thanks for the info really appreciate it.

We were on the Jewel for the first time 2 weeks ago. I can try to answer some of the questions you have.

We got the soda package for our son. It was $4.50*7+tip. Not sure what the total was. My husband mostly used the package but we kind of shared it amongst the 3 of us. We were staying concierge so we had access to free mixed drinks in the lounge every night. We're also not big drinkers so it just would not have made sense for us.

The poker is in the casino. There are tables kind of in the middle of the casino.

We did some ship excursions and they were fine. We like doing the ones the ship offers because then they know where we are. We did a non-ship excursion in St. Lucia and we make it back to the ship 15 minutes before all aboard. It was a little too close for comfort.

We did a B2B on the Jewel this summer. Some islands we book ship excursions and some we did not. On St. Kitts, we found an excellent island tour just outside the pier gates. On Aruba, we booked the trikes. www.trikes-aruba.com. Fantastic, but you have to book very early.

Beverage package...only you can answer that. And only you can answer which package. Have you looked at them? Do you have questions? The packages (other than water where it's actually there in your cabin waiting for you) aren't meant to be shared, but each person in the cabin can order or not order one, and can get the package that makes sense for them.

Going forward DS and I will have a water package and we'll just pay as we go for what we want. DH still loves the "get whatever he wants" feel of the Replenish package, so he'll get that. Even though he doesn't get his money's worth from it.

What ports are you going to? Have you looked at the excursions? Have you cruised before? Are you comfortable heading out on your own which requires that you make SURE you are back to the ship well before all-aboard time (otherwise, as the captain or cruise director will say, be sure to have your camera so you can get good pictures of the ship as it leaves you behind)?
