Junk fees

I'm getting sick of seeing more and more junk fees everywhere I go, along with persuaded tipping. New one I'd not seen before today. I ordered some wings from Buffalo Wild Wings to enjoy with the football game. As I go to check out I'm confronted with a tip screen with 18% already filled in, I had click one button to enter a custom tip, then enter 0 to clear it. And a $0.99 "pickup fee."
What fees have you all seen that are irritating and fall into the "junk" category? No actual value for the fee and no way around it.

:furious:Any fee associated with the purchase of on-line tickets. The tickets are delivered electronically and selling them is literally the entire purpose of the websites - no actual person does anything for you during a transaction. Why, just why, is there an extra fee of any kind?!?

Subway automatically added a 15% "sandwich artisan" fee last time I ordered on the app for pick up. I finally figured out how to take it off and realized my BOGO code was gone. Added that back and the fee reappeared. PITA. And so annoying.

The tip jar at the casino when you go to cash on any tickets. Why do I have to tip you just so you can give give me my money back. For awhile the do it yourself machines wouldn’t give the change part back. Wonder where all that change went.

It's still largely that way in Vegas. We go to the teller's desk to get our change because it starts to add up but it's not uncommon to see people just leaving their claim tickets around on machines or at at the automated machines. It started early in the pandemic with concerns over the virus then became a change shortage and just seems to have stuck around now for casinos.

The DMV modernization fee we are still paying years after we're not supposed to. I'm not really seeing much modernizing being done and yet it's a $4.00 fee on for our cars.

My property tax on my car is only $24 (the lowest the state will charge) but by the time the fees are added it's more than $60 and then the convenience fee to pay online and pay by card or e-check. But if you go in person you'll pay a $5 fee per vehicle plus the payment fee.

Okay I looked it up and about 5 years after introducing the fee they switched the money from going to the DMV system to the state's highway fund...well okay generally I'm happy with the condition of our roads (once a prior governor was gone since he removed a ton of funding for it) but yeesh talk about a fee that just never goes away. It's been existing now for 14-15 years.

I bought tickets to a concert recently. My $45 ticket cost me over $70 once they added all the fees.

The fees that pop up with travel are absurd.

Parking charges at a hotel's facilities are just low rent unseemly & the same goes for resort fee and cleaning fees. If you tack on hundreds in cleaning fees it makes me think your clientele requires a HAZ-MAT team and it's just icky.

Happened this week looking to go to Florida. I will get an idea in my head to go somewhere and then the total is so absurdly off from the price I decide to look elsewhere and when I do a search I end up getting so aggravated by the search itself I don't go anywhere. This happens over and over again.

I was super surprised to learn that $245 ticket started out as $49 before all the state, county and city/district fees get added.

Agreed. Ticketmaster is the worst! Those $25 tickets come out to nearly double.
Resort fees that some hotels charge. My hubby is going to a conference in Vegas and the resort fees are listed separately so you can’t compare hotel costs. The resort fees for some of the hotels were $50 a day!

Not to digress, but casinos are getting sued over not giving the change - one example

I don't blame 'em for going after them. It's more money in the casino's pocket by making it harder for people to get change. It is double work though in printing tickets because it'll print a new voucher for just the change portion if you go to the self service machines. And there's no reason why they should have been continuing with no change at the machines.

this one has to take the cake - subway "artisan fee"? Are you kidding?:crazy2:
Definitely seeing "service fees" or "packaging fees" added to takeup/pickup orders at many places.
