We arrived at OKW last night. Had a great towncar ride from FLTours including a stop at the new Kash-N-Carry grocery. Nice store and our driver gave us a discount card to use for the stop.

We arrived about 5:15 and were placed in building 14. We had requested only non-smoking and got a 3rd floor room overlooking the tee with the pond fountain. Sounds like a waterfall- very soothing from the balcony.

The resort is at 100% occupancy, as Nick already reported in his post. The parks were very busy today as well.

We took an early morning walk to DD today. It is a 10 minute walk from bldg 14 to bldg 55 and then another 15 minutes to HoB.

The construction at the SSR site has not made any noticeable progress since last month, but ground preparation is still going full force. They are moving great quantities of earth on the site!

I was delighted to see the first sign of acknowledgement for the new resort. Here is the sign (Enjoy!) :

How exciting to see the new sign! Hope you have a great trip Doc and thanx for checking in with us folks at home with the cold and snow, lol. :)

Thanx for the report and the interesting photo, Doc!

EDIT: Doc, does the sign say "West Side" walkway to SSR? If so, my sense of direction is not kicking in, as I thought SSR would be closer to The Market Place.

Doc, are you sure you're not really a CIA operative. ;)

Thanks so much for keeping us posted on OKW happenings! Have a wonderful trip.

This sign is on the parkinglot sidewalk behind Cirque and next to the lake. It leads to the LBV golf course and the bridge over the canal that leads to the clubhouse and SSR spa.

The construction itself is closer to Mktplc than West Side, but this sign is at West Side. You can see the Spa and old DI classroom buildings across the canal in the picture.

And, while you are answering everyone else's questions, would you please give me some idea of how you got from bldg. 55 to HofB? I didn't know there was a sidewalk over there. Also, where is the Cash 'n Carry?

There is a paved walkway from OKW to DD. It follows the Trumbo canal and takes about 15 minutes from bldg 55 to HoB and another 10-15 to get to Rainforest Cafe.

Caskbill has a great report on the walkway.

The Kash-N-Carry is at exit 12 on the 417 tollway from the airport. It has easy on/off access and is a brand new store.

We were at OKW from 2/4 to 2/10 and took the walk to DD a few times. We first noticed the new sign on 2/10. :-) Thanks for the picture Doc!

Doc,
Thanks for the picture of the sign(SSR).I see you got building 14, they must save it for the VIP's ;) We just got back tonight at 5:00.
We left OKW around 10:00 this morning.
Enjoy your stay, hope the weather is as good to you as it was to us.

Save some of that good weather for us, Doc!

We're arriving Saturday and can't wait to finally warm up. We've had one of the coldest winters in a long time here in Vermont.

It was 79 here today and should be 81 tomorrow and 79 on Sat.

Better hurry and get here before this stuff disappears! ;)

Have a safe trip down!

Doc,

How does the new Kash-N-Carry compare to Publix? Is it a full-fledged grocery store or is it what we call here in Ohio, a carryout (gas pumps and a few higher priced convenience groceries)? Thanks!

Pat

Kash 'n Karry is a major competitor for Publix "round these parts..." It is a full-fledged grocery store.

They've turned their image around in the last 10 years, IMO, and now have very nice, clean, well-lit stores. My local store offers a much better produce section than my local Publix - but Publix's service can't be beat.

I am wondering if we should try Kash n'Karry instead of Publix? Our Tiffany driver (Berkley) has never been a stickler when it has taken me more than 30 minutes to get out of there. Which one is closer to OKW? We usually go to the Publix in Williamsburg. Do they offer a good variety of groceries?

Doc, according to my figures this is your 2nd trip in about a month.:smooth:

OK, so maybe we're just a little jealous:p

Are you finally going to pass 64,000 this time?

Thanks for the photo. I know right where that sign is at and it always use to say the Disney Institute. Always wondered why it didn't say "Disney Institute AND Old Key West" which is actually more accurate.

Oh Well, looks like they left OKW off, AGAIN.

When you return to IN, please bring some of that FL weather back with you. We could use it.

YES!!!

I got the 500,000 right and missed the 1,000,000 just an hour ago! Drat! But it was still a rush making it that far!

Doc:

WOW, Double-WOW, Triple WOW

I think that gives you the DVC record for WWTBAM.

But missing the Million...bummer :( So close to a free cruise!

I sent you a PM.

Wow! Congratulations, Doc! How exciting!

Beth, thanks for the info on Kash 'n Karry. I think it was the name that threw me. I was picturing a carryout. Just shows how wrong impressions can be.

And Shelbyjosh, Berkley is our driver, too, or at least he has been the last two times we've gone. Do you, by any chance, take a van? We do, and I thought perhaps that's why we got him both times (not that I'm complaining). I thought maybe he was their "official" van driver. At any rate, he's a lot of fun, and you're right! He's great about the grocery stop. In fact, he usually goes in with us to pick up a snack and chat with the gal in the produce department. :D

It's a small world, after all, isn't it?

Pat

287 days and counting . . . again!

Did you say Building 14 is for VIPs??? Wow, that's me. Just returned and stayed in #1436. What a great location. This was our first stay at OKW for more than one night and I loved it!!! Now I know what you're all talking about.

Hi neighbor! We're in 1434! Got to watch an otter in the golf pond last evening from our balcony. (Got to watch an endless stream of golfers this morning! ;) )
