the 2004 marathon will be run on our next to last day , when we had planned to revisit select attractions at all the parks a second time but have heard it can be hard to get around as a lot of roads are closed .....True? also the only way to get to Ak is via roads, same with MgM unless can take a boat from resort (staying at por so don't believe that is possible) as far as I remember. should I change that day to something less transportation intensive? Any ideas on how to get around then? Thanks

I can't answer, but I'd also like to know how the marathon will effect that weekend.

Hi - the day after the marathon it was busier at the MK. It wasn't terrible though - just noticably busier ;) Keep in mind that the runners have priority during the marathon, so while they are in route - you have to wait to cut through their path while in the parks. Have fun!!
This was the reply I got when I asked the same question.
I am looking foward to being at the parks for the Marathon, I think it would be neat to see the runners pass.

Two years ago we were in AK during the marathon. We had no problem driving to AK or getting parked. We did have a delay in being escorted for our early PS at Breakfastasaurus, though, and our poor escort CM was trying to inspire a group of about 20 of us to sprint across the route together. While we were waiting we had fun cheering on the runners with the talking garbage can, which was carrying on very funny (one-sided of course) conversations with the other garbage cans. By the time we finished breakfast the AK seemed to be back to normal.

thanks, I don't mind waiting for them to pass, I don't have big plans to account for every min. of vacation. I was mostly concerned if a lot of roads would be blocked off if traffic would be really bad, enough to not go to different parks that day but try to stay in one place. do you (or anyone else ) know if it takes all day for the race? is each park visited in succession ,so conceivably if it stared in AK and you went to Mk first you'd miss the whole thing or would there be runners in each park all day...obviously never ran in a marathon ( ....make that can not even imagine running a marathon ! lol)

I am considering doing the marathon. I can tell you they require you finish in under 7 hours. They go along and pick people up along the way ho "are not up to pace". It is schedule for a 6am. I have never participated before but even if it gets off a little late, seems to me by 2pm, it would be clear.

Here is a link so you can look at the map if you want to avoid things. I know it goes into Epcot twice.

great! thanks alot and hope it goes well for you if you compete

Thanks for the link, Sandy! It really helps me in planning - I've also read posts from last year of people getting stuck in traffic, even on the resort buses. I'm thinking we'll walk over to Epcot from BWV in the AM - looks like everyone should be at MK or beyond by then - then about 11 or 12 we'll jump the monorail to MK - things should have also cleared out of there by that time. I did read that there is no early entry into MK that Sun because of the marathon- so hopefully it won't be a typical EE-crowded day.
Good luck with your run!!
