Or they’ll have an extra 30% of the characters out for the fullHopefully shortening the course means they'll still at least have some characters out??
Please yell if you happen to see me as I will likely run from Old Key West over to Saratoga Springs to minimize loops/courts.I’ll probably run around Saratoga Springs when I get back, as long as I can finish before there is any lightning in the area.
I think they have to play it safe. Better to be over cautious than to let runners and volunteers get hurt. And for what it's worth, I prefer the better safe than sorry approach. They'll get flak no matter what they decide
I’ll keep an eye out! Please yell if you happen to see me as I will likely run from Old Key West over to Saratoga Springs to minimize loops/courts.
I wonder if there was ever talk of keeping the course and adjusting sweep times to get everyone off by 8 and just letting people go as far as they can. Sweeping those who fall behind the 8:00 finish. I understand logistically that’s probably a nightmare and there aren’t enough busses but selfishly I wish that were the option because I know I’d be done before 8 with or without the adjusted started.Completely agree that the volunteers need to be protected just as much as the runners. I just think that could easily be done with a rolling cleanup of the volunteers/stations as the last runners pass, especially since they're not going to be giving any leeway with the sweep times.
I guess we have an official event name!MW 10k 2: Electric Boogaloo
Yup, it must really be disappointing.I guess we have an official event name!
And to clarify, I'm kinda pissed at missing MK since I'm not signed up for the marathon, not that they are being overly cautious for safety.
I wondered about that, too, but even if they accelerated corral releases and got everyone on course within 30 minutes of the early start that would still only allow 2:45 to complete the course. That allows for 14:53 pace if you're in the first wave, but only a 12:36 pace if you start with the balloon ladies. That's awfully aggressive for the RunDisney population and would be setting a huge portion of the field to be swept, possibly more than they have sweep capacity for.I wonder if there was ever talk of keeping the course and adjusting sweep times to get everyone off by 8 and just letting people go as far as they can. I should’ve given you my number. I’m going to message youI hate this, I get it but I don’t like it. I feel like they wanted to offer something to the half-only runners, which is the only reason they didn’t cancel. There’s no reason for challenge runners to run a 7 mile race. Now a lot of people will put themselves in danger running 6 miles post race when conditions are worse. Plus I personally don’t consider two short runs equal to a longer run for a race. I’d rather just run the 13 on my own tomorrow at 4AM or 5AM at the resorts since I’m not taking any sort of 13.1 medal without running 13.1 miles. But if they cancelled altogether that'd obviously be a major disappointment to half-only runners so this feels like a weak compromise. I feel terrible for those runners, this course is worse than the 10k and costs more. I don’t know if I have faith in the photo ops since they don’t do regular non-character photos outside the parks other than like the Boardwalk. Maybe they’ll change that and put them on the roads? Idk? But those would be some ugly pictures, ha!
Sounds like they aren’t pushing for a faster start based on the coral closure times not changing? So congestion maybe won’t be an issue. Just a bummer all around, I have no idea how I’ll get my extra miles in if they don’t let us do loops around the parking lot which I feel like they won’t.
I'm happy to count my extra 6 miles towards the race total if I run it without even changing out of the same race outfit when I get back to the resort!I hate this, I get it but I don’t like it.
