No Longer coming to you Live from Disney World! Take 3 DDW'S TAMBU LOUNGE 8/6

LOVE the look of the Disney Cafe!::yes::
Although, I did google 'bap' to see if it was a real word. :rotfl:

Yes, bap is a real word but is used regionally, depending on what part of the country you are from. The plural of it is also used as a slang word in the UK for a part of the female body :rotfl:

Joh, this brings back fond memories of a discussion we had a couple of years ago regarding fanny packs. :lmao:

Wow, the level of this thread descended pretty quickly! :rotfl::rotfl2::lmao:

Joh's right that 'bap' is a regional term - but it seems an odd choice for London as we would usually just call it a roll! :confused3

That cafe is next to the Harrods' branch of the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique - if you want a fright, google it and check out the prices:scared1:

Wow, two weeks at Disney World...I am so jealous! You will be living my dream, DeeDee. :cloud9: And your dining lineup looks outstanding. :thumbsup2 I can't wait to read your reviews. Thank you so much for offering to post them here.

And just for old time's sake ;)

Just a reminder that next up to the Disney Dining Plate is...

DeeDee and her family will be at Disney World from 5/23 - 6/8 and she has volunteered to do a dining report for us after her trip!

HAVE A GREAT TRIP, DeeDee & family!!! :cool1:

Awesome lineup DeeDee!! I just booked our Sept trip this morning do absolutely in a Disney frame of mind! Can't wait to read your reviews! Course then your changeADRitis could become contagious!

just a quick update before we head to magic kingdom & wanted to post a hello since we are at disney!!

after working a full shift, picking up the parents, packing up the car & driving to orlando, we headed to DHS for jedi mickey's dinner at hollywood and vine. we had dinner, watched the star wars show & fireworks and overall conquered DHS.

14265201114_23057e7cc7_z.jpg

it's the return of the matching expandable tutus!

we then headed to MK for "rock your disney side" and lasted until 4am!

rachel took a screen shot of us on the disney web cam. :thumbsup2

we are off to magic kingdom for our last full day. :(

happy eating everyone!

Hi everyone! Hope it's okay if I share some photos here from Friday and Saturday (as I still think of this thread when it comes to live updates). This was my first time attending a 24-hour event at the Magic Kingdom, so I was excited to take early morning & sunrise pictures. Also, this was my first opportunity to use my new camera (an entry-level DSLR) in WDW.

DSC_0967_zps98f6855d.jpg

DSC_0970_zpsf1ad625d.jpg

During the 24-hour event, the Mine Train was open all day! It's definitely a cute (albeit short) ride, and it's nice that the Fantasyland expansion is finally complete.

DSC_0028_zpsf319c5a5.jpg

For breakfast, I decided to leave the park and dine somewhere I've never eaten before: Whispering Canyon Cafe. The banana bread french toast was tempting, but I ended up choosing the steel-cut oatmeal with fruit, a whole wheat bagel, and nutella. This dish was a great combination of healthy and "you're on vacation!"

DSC_1002_zps09bd680f.jpg

I also got a side of chicken-apple-raisin sausage, which tasted good but wasn't worth $5. At least it added some protein to the meal!

One more thing that I really liked about WCC was the service - my server (Doc Willis) was friendly and fun without pushing it too far, which I appreciated. Also, after he noticed how quickly I was drinking my water, he brought me an extra large mason jar. I had no problem finishing it!

DSC_1003_zps8405a3db.jpg

Instead of heading back to MK, my next stop was Epcot, where I walked around World Showcase and got lunch at Tangierine Cafe. The chicken shawarma platter was a satisfying choice, as usual.

DSC_0019_zps115d6baa.jpg

I also got an extra side of tabbouleh, because that stuff is amazing. A mixture of parsley, bulgur, tomatoes, and lemon juice, it's packed with flavor.

DSC_0017_zps99580a9e.jpg

For me, a stop in World Showcase wouldn't be complete without L'Artisan des Glaces, so I went there for dessert. My choices were the pineapple sorbet and mint chocolate ice cream, and both were excellent. The mint chocolate tastes like fresh, actual mint leaves - it doesn't have that cloying 'toothpaste' flavor that other mint chocolate chip ice creams have. Also, the pineapple sorbet has dethroned the dole whip for my favorite frozen pineapple treat in WDW.

DSC_0011_zps18a2b013.jpg

From Epcot, I headed to yet another park: Hollywood Studios. I wanted to walk around and experience the vibe of Star Wars Weekends, but was tempted by the 'dark side' to try another snack.

Starring Rolls and other locations are currently featuring Darth Vader and Yoda cupcakes. Yoda was my choice because I liked the sound of chocolate hazelnut buttercream frosting. However, it disappointed me. I was expecting the chocolate and hazelnut flavors to meld together like nutella, but the chocolate flavor (in both the cake and the frosting) was too mild. Also, the frosting was thicker and denser than I prefer. At least the cupcake was cute!

DSC_0024_zpsaf361a37.jpg

From DHS, I returned to Magic Kingdom, where I rode a few more attractions and then made my way to Be Our Guest for dinner. This was my first dinner here, and I actually only got the reservation on Tuesday (three nights prior)! A lucky cancellation, most likely.

I didn't request any particular dining room, so I lucked out when the hostess walked me to the West Wing. This is the only room I hadn't experienced during lunch hours, and my seat had a good view of the magical portrait.

DSC_0074_zps01201f3a.jpg

DSC_0082_zps2016b67d.jpg

I also had a great view when the Master himself entered the room.

DSC_0080_zpscfe157ae.jpg

For dinner, I chose the ratatouille, and it was alright. When I think of ratatouille, I think of a rustic stew with fresh vegetables that have almost melded together, and this 'deconstructed' version kept everything too separate for the flavors to develop.

DSC_0078_zpsb6e8ed3e.jpg

I had to try the grey stuff for dessert, and it was better than I was expecting. The topping was light and tasted like cookies and cream, but I was surprised by the brownie underneath, which also had an Oreo-like flavor and a rich, fudge-like texture. The crust was unnecessary to me, but overall I felt this dessert was worth trying.

DSC_0081_zps0702212a.jpg

Be Our Guest dinner was better than I expected, and I'm glad I got to experience the West Wing. That said, the food didn't stand out, and there are quite a few '1-credit' locations that I prefer (including Captain's Grille, Sanaa, and Grand Floridian Cafe), so I doubt I'll return anytime soon.

After BOG, I went back to Hollywood Studios to see Symphony in the Stars. The fireworks show itself is short but very impressive!

DSC_0099_zps5350770e.jpg

IMG_8364_zps8c6f934b.jpg

The next day, I spent some time in Africa at Animal Kingdom.

DSC_0109_zps47e2d59f.jpg

DSC_0116_zpscd9ddcd0.jpg

Disney Food Blog had mentioned some new additions at Tamu Tamu Refreshments, and I was excited to try them.

DSC_0125_zps51bd86ee.jpg

Spiked dole whips! I tried both versions (with Parrot Bay Coconut Rum and Myer's Dark Rum), and they were definitely enjoyable.

DSC_0107_zps578b1663.jpg

DSC_0130_zpsff68540a.jpg

I also headed over to Kusafiri Bakery and tried a cupcake that's long been on my list: the Cotton-top Tamarin cupcake. I enjoyed this one far more than the Yoda one, as the cake itself was denser and the frosting had a lighter, whipped consistency.

DSC_0139_zpsc829c2a8.jpg

That's it for now - I hope these updates are still useful to anyone out there! It was fun sharing them again. :thumbsup2

DDW - Always nice to see an update from you. :goodvibes
I have passed along the pineapple sorbet tip to DS15 - lover of all things pineapple.::yes::

Thanks so much for the live from Disney World updates, Patty and DDW. It looks like you are both having a great time. And I really appreciate the help with keeping this thread both active and current. :goodvibes Feel free to post updates here whenever you like. Live updates and/or updates from recent trips are always welcome for as long as this thread is still open...and that goes for everyone and anyone! :thumbsup2

Love the updates! Great to see you Mr. DDW! You do get the most out of a Disney day! I am tired just reading about all of your park hopping!

Patty, LOVE the selfie with Chewie! I told DH last night how much I want to pop down there next year for SWW! We may upgrade our tickets to APs in September due to our planned family trip next July. If we do, I think a SWW trip will be a must!

Good morning!

Today, we are sadly leaving Disney in 2 hours. I'm happy to report that my dad was feeling well enough to come along for this quick getaway. This is the first time he has left jacksonville since beginning cancer treatment last July!

He recently had some new brain lesions and completed another round of brain radiation. He is a trooper!

Although they did not go to the parks with us, they enjoyed the hotel & dinner at cape may. We also took a nice long walk on the boardwalk (he gets tired easily) but he really loved it. We spent a lot of time together & Emme enjoyed having her grandparents with her...especially her papa.

14272016342_f2e91bb789.jpg

And last night, on a steamy night at MK, I had an awesome dismeet with deedee (buzz1121) & her precious family. I was unable to meet her in December and I was so happy to have met her this trip. Our meeting was brief but it was very nice to put a face to a name. :)

14087402869_31b15bb6d6.jpg

And I leave you with two more of my favorites from sww! We had an amazing time during sww! I can't wait to update my dining report! :)

Thanks Vicki!! Chewy was awesome! I'm going to do a quick dining review on this thread when I get home.

SWW was super fun! I can't wait to do it again!! :) you guys will love it!

updated 5/26/14

hello again everyone!

the disney blues has not hit me yet and i'm still so excited from our trip this past weekend. this was our first star wars weekend & we were also able to attend "rock your disney side" as well.

also, my parents decided last minute that they wanted to join us as well. i was so happy to have them as my dad is battling cancer and recently just finished another round of brain radiation. he is still a bit weak & gets tired pretty easily but i was excited that they were coming along for the fun. this was his first time leaving jacksonville in almost a year & what better place than disney!

here is an update for JEDI MICKEY'S DINNER @ hollywood & vine.

14275261005_064d84789f.jpg

what a glorious site after what seemed like forever to get to disney!

i had a 7:20 ADR for jedi mickey's star wars themed dinner @ hollywood & vine. we had to rush to get there as i was told the last seating was at 8:30pm. we got a late start to orlando & i was literally running & sweating trying to make it on time.

we were seated on the tram to begin our star wars weekend & was rewarded with a beautiful sunset.

14088602500_e104fabec4.jpg

this looked like a scene from a movie.

after sprinting to hollywood & vine, we checked in and waited to be called.

14254934546_183e242d60_z.jpg

we then were escorted to meet the chip-ewoks for a picture. you are given a photopass card which contains your picture which you are able to download for free! i haven't had the time yet to look at the picture but here is a funny picture from my iphone.

side note: emme & i returned to DHS again with matching expandable tutus!

14278127005_0484fc48ee_z.jpg

chip & dale were so fun! i think every chip & dale encounter we've had has always been nothing short of awesome...and this was no different. they had so much energy & got me so excited for dinner.

14091644829_088fcb4785_z.jpg

14091649708_3cdb1a926f_z.jpg

we were seated at a table & was greeted promptly by our server. he was fantastic & really super nice. after taking our drink orders, emme & i headed to the buffet. despite some negative comments about h&v, the buffet here is pretty good. there's nothing too exotic or fancy about the food offerings here but all in all, it's a good buffet.

for star wars, most of the food items were renamed star wars style:

14274404101_aea77dff4b.jpg

the kids buffet got in on the star wars theming too!

14091077089_0984fd755f.jpg

...well, almost everything had a star wars re-naming.

14091530559_eb021e98e5.jpg

nothing clever for the udon noodle salad (which is yummy!)

here are my plates of food:

14278048965_149433cd2c_z.jpg

the strip loin was cooked perfectly. my favorite item on the plate was the "C-3PO's Cream Corn Spoon Bread" which was delicious. the meat balls were tasty. the only disappointment was the lobster macaroni & cheese. i guess they must've have been low on lobster because now it is the lobster & shrimp macaroni & cheese. on my last visit to h&v, there were CHUNKS of lobster in the mac & cheese. on this visit, there was no lobster but lots of shrimp. i was a sad panda.

plate #2:

14277607554_870b0400bd_z.jpg

i got another piece of the strip loin & the spoon bread. the udon salad is also really good.

emme was too excited to eat. she had her mace windu light saber and was ready to unleash her fury! and shortly thereafter, we had our first visitor:

STORM TROOPER DONALD!!

14278298655_d46fa43f03_z.jpg

14274975511_1bc2810be9_z.jpg

look how super cute donald is as a storm trooper! and he loved our hello kitty storm trooper shirts. our interaction was quite long with donald as he and emme were having an absolute blast together. donald #1!

by this point, dinner was the last thing on emme's mind. i think she may have eaten the insides of a roll and the capanelle alfredo pasta that was made for her at the pasta section.

our next visitor stopped by to say hello:

PRESENTING: DARTH GOOFY!!

14277858144_fd80a1ce01_z.jpg

14091666899_3704971c64_z.jpg

emme & darth goofy (with his non-working light saber) had a pretend light saber fight. it was hilarious!

dinner was a lost cause for emme after darth goofy. all she wanted to see was princess leia minnie.

but first:

JEDI MICKEY!

i didn't see jedi mickey as he walked up as we were recovering from goofy's visit. i bumped into him and almost knocked him over. oops. he seemed pretty irritated with me at this point. it took him a minute to recover an then he pretty much ignored me & entertained emme instead. sorry mickey!

14091747467_cf598cb5be_z.jpg

14091677218_19ca981b9d_z.jpg

FINALLY, PRINCESS LEIA MINNIE made her appearance. emme was so excited as she loves princess leia and minnie looked so precious in her costume. she loved emme's hair & light saber. she also pointed to my tutu and did a "giggle".

14255336596_d4982bd65d_z.jpg

14278313485_c1006207ca_z.jpg

i don't have much of a sweet tooth & i had no interest in dessert but i did taste a few & took some photographs:

14254608546_3c7813fdde_z.jpg

14091448010_137c56098d_z.jpg

14091404828_ab45c9e47c_z.jpg

14254942126_d2062786ed_z.jpg

14091406119_134a171dae_z.jpg

14276005132_ab9b0e3273_z.jpg

there were non-star wars themed desserts as well. emme just wanted vanilla ice cream & they put some sprinkles on there for her.

here comes the not so fun part about the meal: the price. it cost me $55.99 and $32.99 for emme. Total of $95.00 without tip. i was in sticker shock as i could have had 2 ribeye's from YSH for that price. YIKES!

HOWEVER, it was such a fantastic experience and it would save me a lot of time the next day since we already got to meet the characters. i don't regret having dinner but man, that really hurt my wallet.

the characters were super fun, the excitement was palpable & our tummies (well mine more than emme's) was pretty full & happy. everyone was in the star wars spirit at hollywood & vine. it was a great experience and i would probably do it again next year (unless the price increases dramatically).

afterwards, we explored DHS more and partook in the star wars festivities. i will be updating my dining report here and will include more updates & pictures....if you are interested, then come on by!

i definitely recommend this if you are a star wars fan...meeting the characters costs a premium price but meeting them in air conditioning is priceless. it was ridiculously hot for the remainder of the weekend.

happy eating everyone!!

Patty: thanks for sharing your SW Jedi Mickey dinner! It looks awesome despite that price. Glad to see your dad out and about. I wish him well.

Mr. DDW - I loved seeing you pop in and share your updates. That's great that you were able to snag an ADR for BoG at such short notice. Your luck is the envy of many I'm sure. I did the Rock your Disney side at DLR while you were at WDW!

Great updates from SWW, Patty! Looks like you did it properly - I only experienced the fireworks and a cupcake. Sorry to hear about your dad, but it's great that he got to join you and I hope he's doing well.

DDW - Always nice to see an update from you. :goodvibes
I have passed along the pineapple sorbet tip to DS15 - lover of all things pineapple.::yes::
Glad you enjoyed the update! And I highly recommend that sorbet - it has an incredibly smooth texture and tastes more 'natural' than a dole whip (no offense to my namesake). ;)

:thumbsup2
Thanks so much Barb! This thread has always been a great place to see live (or almost live) reports, and it'll be fun to continue that. I actually have another update from yesterday that I'll post later (since yesterday was my departure day. :)

Love the updates! Great to see you Mr. DDW! You do get the most out of a Disney day! I am tired just reading about all of your park hopping!
The park hopping probably wasn't the smartest idea. Still, I'd say it was worth it to experience some of those unique highlights (such as MK at sunrise and the SWW fireworks show). If you visit during Star Wars Weekends next year, I hope Symphony in the Stars is still around! It's so cool to see an actual fireworks show at DHS. :thumbsup2

Mr. DDW - I loved seeing you pop in and share your updates. That's great that you were able to snag an ADR for BoG at such short notice. Your luck is the envy of many I'm sure. I did the Rock your Disney side at DLR while you were at WDW!
Hi Brenda! Glad to hear you made it to DLR's 24-hour event (which sounded even better to me, since both parks were open!). I heard there was a World of Color show at 3 in the morning - that would've been amazing to experience. :goodvibes Now you've got me missing DL, although I'm not sure when I'll be back. :worried: Maybe I just need to move over to the West Coast (even if it isn't SoCal) so I can visit more often (and meet up with you guys in your home park)!

Patty- thanks for the report on the SWW dinner! I'll be doing it this weekend and have been eagerly reading everyone's reports. My bank account is prepared, so I will try to have as much fun as you and Emme were in those photos.
