Don't quote me on this, but we're still not at the point where airfare prices will be at their lowest. Airlines have higher pricing during two times:
- Way in advance when people like yourself are planning a major trip and therefore pressured to book, and
- Very last minutes when people need to fly out ASAP.
So what does that leave? The middle, which is around the 60 day mark. Now, I understand most people cannot risk holding off until 2 months prior, but the reasoning is this: At around this time, airlines are getting a good idea of how full their flights are going to be. Flights are going to take off regardless whether their seats are full or empty. Therefore it's better to fill up the seats and at least get something + ancillary revenue, rather than nothing.
SWLS is slated to be the middle of January. This is one of the lowest travel times of the year, because kids are back in school and most people have spent all their money buying gifts and traveling for the holidays. So I expect fare deals to come down eventually!
