Rise of the Resistance...ride discussion (spoilers)

I, for one, have actually fallen into someone because I wasn’t holding on to a hand rail.
I wonder whether this is why they've toned down or eliminated the movement - when we rode in December it seemed that the COVID social distancing didn't allow for everyone to hold on to something, as compared to prepandemic when everyone placed themselves.

That sounds plausible.

I would be fine on RotR - it's spectacular and the few parts that I remember being "closed" are much larger than an elevator and don't last long. I don't know where the 'chicken exit' is on MFSR, but the simulator is closed and even the ship areas seen immediately before and after the ride capsule were 'closed in' to me. I'm not claustrophobic enough to have a diagnosis (truth in advertising, so take me with a grain of salt) but I am definitely uncomfortable closed in if there are any unknowns about timing or the experience.

I noticed a couple of things while riding tonight that seemed "off" compared to numerous rides on prior trips. Specifically:
(1) When the Resistance members blast their way through the interrogation room wall, there used to be elaborate "blasting-through" visual effects on the wall. Tonight, there were some pretty routine strobe-type lighting effects and then you could see the sliding door open. I had never seen this before and was, frankly, a bit disappointed. Apparently this is the "B" mode for that scene?
(2) Kylo Ren's later scene where he threatens us and then has to stop himself being blown out a destroyed starship wall was omitted. Instead we got that bit where he's outside in his specialized TIE-type ship (whatever it's called; I forget) threatening to fire his weapons. I believe this is a fairly common "B" mode thing, or at least not that uncommon.

On the plus side, the CMs still do an excellent job menacing the 'prisoners.' One of them walked right up to someone and gave her a stare-down which was quite funny, and their First Order chat is pretty good. And lastly, despite a posted 85 minutes at around 7:20 pm tonight, the entire thing from entering the queue to exiting the ride vehicle was closer to 65 minutes. That may have been mostly the result of cold/rainy weather that persisted all day today.

I have just a random question. When you are "broken out" of the jail cell, is the CM supposed to be in character? The first time we rode (March 2020), I actually thought the ride had broken and they were about to evacuate us because the CM was so subdued and just kind of pointing "this way". It was such a stark change from the CMs that put us in the cell. We rode again in December and kind of felt the same way, to the point we just kind of chuckled at feeling like "ok, we're just getting loaded onto the vehicle, he's not bothering with any immersive bs".

Yes they are. Sounds like you haven’t had a normal CM experience then.

As above, yes, they should be in character, but some people are better actors than others. That CM might have been fairly new, too. Just some possible explanations....

@scrappinginontario - tagging you here because I wanted to know what y'all thought of this experience. After postponing your visit for such a long time, I hope you and your daughter were able to ride and that you both enjoyed it!
Hi! Thanks for checking in and yes, thankfully we were able to ride it twice! Great ride!!

I will say it meant more to my daughter as she is the Star Wars fan (e.g. I asked on the way to the attraction if the Storm Troopers are good guys or bad guys! 🙃 ) but we both really enjoyed it and personally, I'm glad I stayed away from spoilers.

When I rode last Saturday, the big cannon blasters weren't moving at all. That was the first time I've seen that particular glitch, but the ride had been down for a while a couple hours before I rode, so I'm not sure if that part just didn't reset properly or what.

It was my first time riding later in the day, though, and I was very excited to see that the takeoff/landing sequences were adjusted to match the dusk appearance of outside, not just fully day or fully night. I'm curious how many different options they have for that - is there a rainy version of the videos, too, as well as day/evening/night?

Those haven’t moved in months.

The cannons worked when we were there in December.

Also, the CM's are all supposed to be in character but naturally some are better actors or more into it than others. On our VERY first ride (the second day the attraction opened in 2019) the CM's who ushered us out of the briefing room and into the shuttle were AWESOME. It was like we were in a military maneuver and the guys were shouting at us "Let's GO people! MOVE MOVE MOVE!". It was amazing. Then the CM who broke us out of the cell were into it too. Since then in our many rides we've had some awesome and some meh performances.

I've had pretty good luck with the moments after the door opens and and the CMs urging us to get to the cars. The one area of acting where I've seen the most change since early on was if there's a delay between getting into the vehicle and when it actually starts moving. Right after it opened, they would kill time with some semi-scripted lines about getting systems set up and waiting for the right moment to send us and things like that, whereas the last couple times I've had a delay there, they didn't say much and there was a sort of awkward silence between getting into the car and waiting for the ride to officially start with Flynn on the screen. I'm sure it gets tiresome trying to act hyped up like you're reacting to an emergency continuously, so I get it, it's just a difference that I've noticed as well.

I’ve ridden this a few times and have no intention of losing a long-awaited ride in order to try it and find out. But curious…

If a rider wishes to “chicken exit” before being put into an interrogation cell, how do the First Order CMs handle that without breaking character? Is there a spiel they use that gives the person a pretext to leave? (Or do they in fact break character at this point?)

They just escorted DH out when he chicken exited. Didn't say much at all. A spiel would have been great.
