I'm trying hard to get my legs back into shape after 3 months off for winter and was listening to the Give Kids The World podcast while riding my bike. I have a bike event (Ride South's Signature Ride) coming up March 28th and it came to me that I should make that ride a fund raiser.
I don't know if ya'll have caught the DIS's fund raiser with GKTW, there is a link on the homepage here; http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-podcast/
For a little about me. I have made a few life changes and while I am still working to loose a few pounds, I'm happy to be where I am. Here is a quick link to who I am; http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2029908&page=1&highlight=2009++will+be+different
My March 28th ride is a locally organized ride and yesterday I printed material in order to take pledges for each mile I rode. I only started riding last year and the most I ever rode in a day was 54 miles and that was last fall when I my legs were in their best shape. This ride is a 116 mile ride. I am aiming for 75 (a scheduled stop point for support) and hope to do it but am concerned since I've been off my bike for winter.
So far, I've raised $4.20 in pledges per mile. If I hit my goal with these pledges, that will earn $315 for Give Kids the World. I hope to double that by March 28th. Not an large amount but any amount for such a great cause is worth it. Any pledge that results in a $25 or more donation will receive a FREE podcast T-shirt! Thanks John for confirming that!
This has really given me a new drive to work harder to be ready for this ride. I haven't posted a lot since joining the DIS in 2005 so many of you may not know me but I'd like to ask 2 favors;
1. (If you haven't already) Consider buying one of the NEW DIS Unplugged shirts shown in the link I gave above. Do you remember your first trip to Disney? Imagine that excitement for a child who may not have had anything to be excited about in a long time.
2. I'd like to post fund raising updates and workout ride updates as I get closer. Any motivation you can give would be appreciated, especially nearer to the 28th. My ride yesterday of 40 made me wonder is I could pull this off.
Thank you!
