Vegas hotel help please :)

Hi all!

My Mum is about to book a trip to Vegas for this September.

I went a few years ago adn stayed at TI in a strip view room and loved it. We also really liked that end of the strip, so always tend to recommend it to other people staying there, as it just had a nicer 'feeling' to us than the southern end of the strip.

There are some great flight+hotel deals on at the moment and she has now narrowed it down to a few choices:

- Wynn
- Encore @ Wynn
- Venetian
- Palazzo
- Bellagio

She really loves Venice, and seems a little reluctant to stay at the Venetian because of this.

My parents have never been to LV before, and will be there for 5 days. More for sightseeing than gambling really.

Would love to hear some of your thoughts.

I vote for the Venetian.... I just went in December and stayed at Planet Hollywood and loved it, but its more of a younger crowd there.

We've stayed at the Venetian and the Bellagio. They can't go wrong with either one. They are both fantastic. If they are talking about a fountain view room at the Bellagio, I would say do that. Those are my favorite rooms in Vegas. It is fantastic to be able to sit in your room and look out your window and watch the fountain show (the music is piped through on one of the TV channels). We normally don't spend much time in the room in Vegas, but we would definitely find ourselves running back upstairs, or even coming back to the Bellagio from somewhere else to be able to catch a water show or two from the room. We'd pull the chairs up to the window and have a nice glass of wine while we watched. The Bellagio also has a great location. It is centrally located and a short walk from a bunch of places. Obviously, the Venetian isn't Venice or Europe, but I still don't really think she would be disappointed in the hotel itself. Madame Tussards wax museum there is a lot of fun for sightseeing and has great photo ops. Of course, they could go there regardless of where they stay. I'm sure they will visit the Venetian whether or not they stay there.

I don't think the Venetian and the Palazzo are that different. To me, they basically seem like two parts of the same hotel. I think the Venetian's rooms were updated around the same time the Palazzo was built, so I think the rooms themselves are pretty similar.

We don't really care for the Wynn/Encore. We find them bland and dull. They just don't have that Vegas style and excess and over the top feeling. They feel like a nice hotel, but there isn't anything that feels special about them. We do like the Le Reve show at the Wynn though. A lot of times when we go to a show somewhere, we find ourselves staying at the hotel a while and hanging out. We usually get bored pretty quick at the Wynn and go elsewhere. I have a couple of friends who have stayed there, and both of them have said that they much prefer the Bellagio or Venetian.

My friends and I went to Vegas for our 40th birthdays. We stayed at the Venetian. While we liked lots about it, we felt old. It may have been the weekend (Labor Day), but we were definitely in a 20's crowd. The rooms were nice though.

I really enjoyed the Bellagio. We had a room with the fountain view. It was a great way to watch it. The hotel was very relaxing, they even gave us turn down service and chocolates on our bed.

And Encore at the Wynn won. She has upgraded to a bigger suite with a panoramic strip view on a high floor. I feel she's definitely made the right choice for her and my dad. I'm very jealous!!!

Congrats on your parents booking a room at the Wynn. Quite frankly, any of the choices on the list won't be bad. The main difference is the Venetian and the Palazzo rooms all start as suites whereas the other hotels have regular rooms as their starting point.

The Wynn is at the far end on the north side of the strip so if they're planning on walking the Strip to the other end, it will be a good hike and in Sept, it will be hot. Not as hot as mid-summer but it will be at least 90 degrees. Mid-summer can get over 110 degrees although it is a dry heat. Very low humidity.

As far as sight seeing, there isn't too much to sight see in the neighboring areas of Las Vegas. You've got Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon and we've been to Las Vegas many times and have yet to go to either location.

There is Old Las Vegas Downtown but pretty much anything they're going to do will center around the Casinos. If you venture off the Strip or away from the Casinos, you're going to find that there isn't much else going on in Las Vegas. It's not like, say San Diego, where you have the beaches, mountains, zoo, SeaWorld and other tourist attractions.

The Strip/Casinos is pretty much all Las Vegas has to offer and many people that visit Las Vegas never even go away from the Strip.

Your parents will want to catch some shows and I would recommend the "O" show at the Bellagio since they've never been to las Vegas. Make sure they eat at a buffet as well. We generally either eat at the Bellagio or Wynn buffet. The last time we went, we tried the Aria buffet which was good as well. I would recommend either doing a dinner buffet or a brunch buffet.

Since they're staying the Wynn, I would also recommend making reservations to the W Steakhouse in the Wynn. It's a great steakhouse but keep in mind that jackets are required for men. I do believe they have loaners available for those that don't know the policy or don't have a jacket.

Since they are new to Vegas and really aren't into gambling, might I suggest that you get them the "Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas". Like WDW, LV has a lot going on sometimes you have to know "where to look."

I recall sometime back, someone saying they didn't like WDW because there weren't any rides!!! Well, you're just walking along and sometimes you don't know to look for an entrance!!!

At any rate, when I was a newbie to Vegas, my DH and I got the book and it helped tremendously in planning our days and finding those out of the way gems that the normal tourist might miss. It also provides information on tipping, etc. which can sometmes be different from one country to the next. Lots of good information on how to get from one casino to the next without walking a mile.

The book doesn't cost much and will certainly make their visit more enjoyable.
