Visiting WDW in August?

I've read about the crowds during peak seasons and how to stay away from them but my husband and I are restricted to certain times of year. Also, I do want to get to WDW when it's hot and most of the attractions are up and running. Can anyone tell me how the crowds are the last week of August?

Going to WDW in August must be an Iish thing..an Irish Murph and a Flynn! :)

We were there Aug. 17-20, and crowds were NIL! Really, very short lines. We chose to go then because we didn't want our kids to miss school AND we also did the DCL Wonder right after that, and the prices were cheaper after Aug. 15. The folks at Epcot told my DH that they were bored--crowds were so sparse.

Florida kids go back to schol in mid-August.

Drink lots of fluid, pack lots of deodorant and have a blast!

Barb:) ;)

Learned so much thru the boards!!Thanks to all!

most of our trips to WDW have been in late August and they have been terrific. Crowds weren't exactly non-existent but were totally manageable. we spent lots of time in the pool each night and drank lots of water (and iced tea) during the day.

ENJOY! wish I was going this August ...

We went to WDW in August 1998 and enjoyed it so much that we are going again this August. I expected it to be much more crowded than it was and another plus is the parks are open later so you can have an afternoon break or a later start.
It was hot but we were prepared for it and it wasn't as bad as expected.

If you go you'll have a brilliant time.

Diana :)

Hi and welcome to the boards. We have been going end of August for 10 years now and LOVE it. Everything everyone else said I agree with and more. Hubby is a teacher so we are restricted, but we found this time years ago and were pleasantly surprised. Have a great vacation whenever you go!!

Great time to go! As we have school age children, we always end up going in early to mid August. It is hot in Pa. in August also, so we really don't mind it a bit. We enjoy the parks in the AM-then back to FW to nap in the a/c camper-then back to the magic until late PM. You'll have a great time!

We always go the last few weeks of August and the weather is hot but we get used to it after a day or two. The crowds are so small though that you can go on the rides quickly and then get out of the sun in the shops or restaurants before going on more rides. Just stay away Labour Day weekend. Last year we went the last week of August, beginning of Sept and the parks were empty, it was amazing and then on Labour Day it was awful. It was more crowded than we've ever seen and even walking anywhere was annoying

We did the same thing. Went over Labor Day weekend. Friday and Saturday were wonderful--hot but not unbearable, and crowds like they are in January. But then Sunday and Monday were miserable! Crowds like I had only read about. Big mistake. Then Tuesday and Wed. after Labor Day, I think we were the only ones in the park.

HAVE ONLY BEEN IN jUNE WHEN CROWDS WERE HUGE BUT MANAGEABLE WITH GOOD PLANNING.

HAVE A GREAT TIME!

If you want hot you will get it. Most of the south is back at school and there is a little less of a crowd.

We stay at a DVC palce with a full frige and freeze water bottles. That way we have cold water all the time and at a lot less than $3 a bottle.

We pack a water filter pitcher like a Britta and reuse the same bottles but avoid the nasty swamp water taste.

Everyone's comments sound pretty promising. Sounds like we'll do OK the last week of August. We're in VA now so I'm somewhat prepared for the hot weather. We'll bring lots of water. We're leaving FL on Monday, Sept. 3 - any suggestions for a certain park for Saturday and Sunday so as to avoid Labor Day chaos. What about Universal or IOA? I didn't know how they'd be on the weekends? Thanks for all your helpful comments!

I was also wondering the same thing but after reading all these responses I feel much better, we are going the second week of August, hopefully the lines will be manageable.
I expect the worse....it can only get better!!

When I first thought about going in August I was kind of worried that it would be so hot/muggy we would hate it. Now,I'm ok with it! Thanks to all of you!!!!!
