Maybe if we all "fill-in the blanks" we'll come up with the pricing history of DVC. Here's what I've got:

May 1993 --$56.00 (190 minimum/230 suggested)

May 1996 -- $62.75 (not sure this is right)

Sept. 1998 received a notice that price was going up from $62.75 to $65

January 1999 -- Official increase to $65.00

Price goes to $67.00 (When?)

January 2001 -- $72.00

Pam, I know for sure in March 95 it was $62/pp.

We paid 62/pp for 210 OKW points in 95 and 62/pp for 200 VB points in 1996. Both were in May/June of those years.

Pam I know for sure that the $67 price went into effect in May 2000. I did an add on at OKW right before the price increase. I think it was about the middle of May.

My first purchase was $57.50 in July of 93

first added on in fall of 95 at $62.75

the rest you have already.

I guess this jump to $72 isn't the first radical increase. We bought in spring '92 at $51 and I know it was still $51 in the fall of '92.

$56 in May '93 would also have been a $5 increase in a short time, maybe one move. We haven't seen any prices between $51 and $56, so maybe this is actually the second $5 move...

Creeping socialism was seen hundreds of years ago when James Madison said: "I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."

Great. So far we've got

Feb-Sept.'92 - $51
? - $54.50?
May '93 - $56 (190 pt. minimum)
July '93 - $57.50
Jan. '94 - $57.50 (190 pt. minimum)
March '95 - $62
Fall '95 - $62.75
May '96 - $62.75
May '97 - $62.75 (150 pt. minimum)
May '98 - $62.75
Jan. '99 - $65
Oct. '99 - $65 (notice of OKW selling out)
June 2000 - $67
Jan. 2001 - $72.00

I guess there were no prices between $51 and $56...interesting. It seems that this $5 increase is not unprecedented. I guess that the interest in OKW back then and the inquiries they are getting for VWL and BCV are making them feel confident again...that 2042 date has to start taking a toll sometime.

Do people realize that it is not really 2042? It is January, 2042!! Really only 41 years from today.

Creeping socialism was seen hundreds of years ago when James Madison said: "I believe there are more instances of the abridgement of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power than by violent and sudden usurpations."

The $67 price increase actually went into effect on June 15, 2000. Disney had announced that it would go into effect by May 15, but the guides were honoring the $65 price per point through the June date.

I know Rich, it's crazy. I'm wondering how BCV will fly with less than 40 years on the contract. (In looking through old papers I did read that DVD can build resorts that do not have to be part of DVC. Maybe they will be coming up with "DVC II".)

We joined in August of 1992. At that time the price per point was $54.50 and the minimum purchase was 230 points.

In August of '92 the price was NOT $54.50, it was $51. For absolutely certain.

Guys, 42 years is not a big deal to some buyers because they over a certain age! If you're 50, surely losing DVC rights at the tender age of 91 does not seem entirely earthshaking. Even if you are 40, you're going to have to stop going to WDW at 81? I'm sorry, that just doesn't seem like a major trauma to me.

If I was 20-something this might be an issue, but how many 20-year-olds can afford DVC? Even if you had a high paying job you'd have a house to buy, family to start, etc.

If the thing was ending in 20 years I could see some stress involved. Maybe.

I bought in 11/91 and can not find those records but since my daughter worked at Fireworks Factory on Pleasure Island I got 10% off my purchase of 240 points.
In 9/93 --added on 25 points--$60.50 per point.
10/99 Points were $65.00 per flyer received Re: OKW close out.

Hi,
51.00 in Feb. of 92.
Rich, I could have sworn shortly after our purchase that it did go up, like in the summer of 92. I vaguely remember being smug about the increase and how we had already seen an appreciation. Perhaps your price was 51.00 because you were already a member and added on before the price increase.

I just checked my records:
May 1997 $62.75 min purchase 150
May 1998 $62.75 (I did add ons so I don't know if the min was the same.)

Mikesmom: By the way, I did buy into DVC when I was in my 20s and I know some others who did. For us, waiting for 41 years before this expires will be hard as we'll just be getting into our better years!! May we all be so lucky!! :D
