Guess what? After nearly a month of separation from our favorite vacation destination, we submitted yet again. And that means...another dining review! :goodvibes

Last time, we had a very good time at the Dolphin. It was our first time staying entirely at a non-Disney resort, and we would definitely go back (although next time, we'll pick the Swan, which feels like a smaller hotel). This time, our original resort pick was the Grand Floridian, which we haven't stayed at since last August. We love GF a lot, but we decided that we didn't want to stay there because of the change in monorail service during EMH (it's already begun at Epcot, and will begin at MK starting on August 1st). So we picked another resort that we really like now - Wilderness Lodge! It's beautifully themed and in the MK area, and the transportation cuts will not affect our time here. We're also going to spend some time at the Boardwalk, which we haven't done in over 5 years. :)

Anyway, we're celebrating my mom's birthday this trip, so we plan on doing a bunch of signatures (I guess that's no different from usual, but hopefully these meals will be extra special for her). We already had dinner at Artist Point, but the rest of our plans could easily change (once I get pics of the most current menus). The only definite meal is California Grill (and it's only definite because of their ressie policy :rotfl:). We've already experienced some magic since arriving a few hours ago, and I'm positive that this is going to be a great report. :thumbsup2

Photobucket isn't loading fast enough from here, so I'll begin posting the reviews in a few days. Can't wait to share the food (and more) with you!

I somehow had a feeling you would be back earlier than you had said! ;)

We love, love, love the Wilderness Lodge! Unfortunately our days of staying at the Deluxe resorts are on hold for a bit (would rather have deluxe dining!) but when we can, that will be the first place we stay!

Cannot wait for the reviews ...especially Artist Point. 27 days til our arrival
(30 til we are eating at AP!)

Have fun!

I guess I've been away from the boards alot lately so was unaware of any changes to the monorail service or any other transportation cuts. Please fill me in. :confused3

Oh, and I hope your mother has a wonderful time celebrating her birthday there. I can now say from experience that Disney World is a great place to celebrate your birthday...even for those of us who are only kids at heart. :lmao:

And looking forward to more of your reviews! :woohoo:

You have my attention; I have enjoyed your dining reviews in the past. I'm looking forward to hearing about your stay at the WL and your dining experiences. :thumbsup2

(I'll even be nice to you if you have a positive review on Le Cellier) :lmao:

YAYYAYAY! I am soooo excited for another review!

Are you planning on going for F&W?

Can't wait! We'll be staying at WL next month as well. This will be our first time! Looking forward to your reviews!

We're doing deluxe dining for a few of our nights - it certainly makes us more willing to order some of the more expensive items (otherwise it would be chicken and fish every meal :rotfl:). I'm sure you'll love Artist Point!

Recently, the Epcot monorail operating hours were changed so that the Epcot monorail operates for exactly one hour after regular park closing. This same effect will take effect for the MK loop on August 1st. That means if you want to get back to your monorail resort room during MK or Epcot EMH, you'll have to take a bus or boat. No more monorail during EMH. For some people, that might not be a big deal. For me, I specifically plan my nights to be at MK during EMH (which happens to be 2 nights a week right now). So to lose monorail access during those hours, I might as well be at a cheaper resort like WL. And I'm fine with it. :) I attribute a huge part of the monorail resort's high room rates to monorail access, whereas at WL I accept that I'm getting a bus everywhere (and boat to MK).

We're really looking forward to seeing how the rest of the birthday celebration goes. It's certainly been good so far! :goodvibes

Hope you enjoy the reviews. Even if we have differing opinions on Le Cellier, the key is that we all enjoy where we end up dining. And at this point, I wouldn't say I'm 100% in favor of Le Cellier. ;)

YAYYAYAY! I am soooo excited for another review!

Are you planning on going for F&W?
We're hoping to figure something for F&W. We haven't been since 2002, but it's difficult to time since I have to get back to university. Plus, we're trying to plan a trip to South Africa (to visit family) in December, which might make it harder to squeeze in more Disney. :sad1: So that's why we have to do it now! :rotfl:

I'm in for another round. popcorn::
Hope you enjoy the reviews again!

Can't wait! We'll be staying at WL next month as well. This will be our first time! Looking forward to your reviews!
I'm sure you'll love WL! It's a beautiful hotel with many friendly cast members. And I hope you like the reviews. :)

I can't wait for you to get started!
Just a few more days! Disney's 'high speed' internet just isn't cutting it for photobucket.

I'm on the edge of my seat...:goodvibes
Hope you enjoy! There's definitely some good food coming up!

Joining in...popcorn::
Glad to have you onboard! :goodvibes

Subbing as well !! I hope there is food porn popcorn::
There will definitely be a lot of pics! Half the fun of writing reviews for me is getting to look back at all of the food. Can't wait to share everything!

Just updated Post #2 with the final list of restaurants planned for our trip. There will also be some other items included, such as snacks. Can't wait to start sharing reviews! :goodvibes

Now that photobucket is actually loading for me, I wanted to finally kick off the review. We arrived fairly late (around 8 PM) at Wilderness Lodge, and we had to check in before our dinner at Artist Point. The cast member at the front wished my mom a very happy birthday, and pretty soon we were told that we had been upgraded to club level! It was a complete shock, and we were both so grateful. Of course, during our time at WL we also had the DxDP, so we didn't need to make full use of everything in the lounge, but it was still a magical gesture and certainly made the birthday even more special. I have to say, the cast members at Wilderness Lodge were all so friendly and helpful. They were always smiling, said hi, and really enhanced the experience for us. We're at Boardwalk now, and let me just say things are quite different here. :rolleyes1

Here's a picture of the room:

And the courtyard view from the room:

Once we were settled in, we decided to explore the lounge and see what the dessert offerings were:

IMG_1333.jpg

I tried some of the peach strawberry cobbler and loved it. It was warm, gooey, and perfect for summer. :goodvibes

Magic bars! :worship: These are good but extremely sweet, which makes it even better that they're served in smaller portions than the ones available from Roaring Fork.

There were other options too:

The trip was off to a great start, but we still had dinner at Artist Point to look forward to. We headed there soon after exploring the lounge.

As usual, great line-up of restaurants. I won't be missing this one!
I hope you enjoy! Most of the meals have been really great, and Flying Fish is the only one I'm worried about (but we're at the Boardwalk, so why not try it again?).

How cool that they upgraded you! Looking forward to the reviews ... great list you have there!
The upgrade really was such a wonderful gesture. A great reminder that the magic is still there...and it lies largely within the cast members. Wilderness Lodge's CM's really stood out all around - we felt welcome and totally pampered.

Artist Point is coming up!

Artist Point was the first dinner of our trip. Even though we've had some disappointing dishes here, our recent meals have been wonderful, and overall we just love this restaurant.

Here is the menu from our dinner (please forgive me for the odd black parts in the bottom right corner of some pics. It seems to be a flaw with the camera, and I only figured out how to work around it towards the end of the trip):

IMG_1338.jpg

My favorite appetizers from last time (the crab salad and the English pea risotto) were gone, but unlike at other restaurants, I didn't feel upset about this. I had a feeling that the replacement dishes would be of similarly excellent quality.

Our table was located right next to a window, and we could see the beautifully lit waterfall from our table (couldn't get a good pic). In addition, we had a server that we've had before, Carol, and once again she was very friendly. She didn't rush us at all (even though our ADR was extremely late), and she quickly brought over some sourdough bread with butter and black Cyprus sea salt.

IMG_1339.jpg

To start, my mom chose the dungeness crab risotto with blood orange sauce and pea shoots. This dish was actually on the menu last year (served with halibut as part of an entree). My mom ordered the halibut last year, but she replaced the risotto with asparagus, so it was nice to finally try this risotto.

IMG_1342.jpg

I tried some and instantly smiled. The risotto had a sweetness from the crab, while the orange sauce provided a unique tangy flavor. Plus, the portion was a perfect size, not too big.

My choice was the Artist Point "BLT" with sweet chili lacquered Snake River Farm pork belly, baby heirloom tomatoes, vincotto, and petit greens. Another fabulous choice - the pork belly was both soft and crispy, the tomatoes were juicy and sweet, and the greens (such as cilantro) added a fresh contrast. The vincotto was sweet and sharp, like balsamic. Pork belly is becoming more and more common at upscale restaurants, and Artist Point did it really nicely.

IMG_1345.jpg

My mom's entree was the same one that I had last time - grilled certified hand-cut prime black angus beef tenderloin with marble potatoes, garden beans, pearl onions, and green peppercorn butter. The meat was cooked to her liking, and she thought it was absolutely delicious (despite not being a huge meat lover).

IMG_1346.jpg

I decided to try the char-grilled buffalo striploin steak with marble potatoes, garden vegetables, and shiraz gastrique. The last time I had the buffalo strip here (in early 2009), I was disappointed. This time, the dish amazed me. The meat was juicy and delicious (I had it cooked medium), and topped with some pieces of crunchy sea salt. It wasn't too fatty, either. Normally, there are some pieces of a strip steak that I just can't swallow, but I finished all of the buffalo. The potatoes and veggies added some beautiful colors to the dish - I think this is one of the prettiest plates of meat I've ever seen. The gastrique added a sweet contrast that really elevated the dish. I would be happy to order this again.

IMG_1348.jpg

We also ordered some sides. My mom chose the asparagus with brown butter (they were out of white asparagus) and enjoyed it, as the asparagus had a nice oak-grilled flavor.

IMG_1352.jpg

I picked the truffled black diamond mac and cheese. The truffle added an earthiness and elevated this from ordinary mac and cheese.

IMG_1351.jpg

There were actually pieces of truffle in the mac:

IMG_1353.jpg

Carol brought over a blue Mickey straw for me in the middle of the meal. It was cute and I love those straws, but I forgot to bring it with me when we were done. :sad1:

IMG_1354.jpg

I had to get a picture of the beautiful murals in Artist Point.

IMG_1356.jpg

The dessert menu hadn't changed since last time, and we both chose the berry cobbler.

IMG_1359.jpg

IMG_1364.jpg

IMG_1365.jpg

The berry cobbler was wonderful, as usual. A nice texture (not too heavy or doughy), and a sweet, tart flavor from the fresh berries.

In addition, Carol brought out a surprise dessert, the strawberries and cream. It had a candle in it for my mom's birthday.

IMG_1361.jpg

What a nice surprise! This dessert included strawberry consommé with grand marnier, vanilla panna cotta, and buttered pound cake. It was like a deconstructed strawberry shortcake, and everything tasted wonderful when combined. You can easily see some of the vanilla beans on the panna cotta, which was wonderfully creamy. This was a great choice on Carol's part, since it was lighter than the berry cobbler (a better finale after our meat). We also each had our own pots of green tea.

IMG_1366.jpg

As usual, Artist Point was a hit. The food was all excellent quality and quite innovative. Plus, it was nice to see some noticeable changes in the menu - AP is one of the restaurants that really changes things up quite often, and things always taste fresh and reflective of the Pacific Northwest influence. Carol provided great, very warm service, and we knew we had to have another meal there. For some people, AP is just okay, but it's one of our absolute favorite restaurants and I look forward to returning. :lovestruc

Just wanted to add some pics of the beautiful dining room:

Yay another DR! I like your DR's because you go to a lot of the place I like and want to try (all the signatures!).

I wish I was at AP right now so I could try the Prawn and Crab Hot Pot....that sounds amazing. I saw it and was thinking, 'Oh I hope one of them ordered that so I can see it!'. :rotfl:

What you did order looks good nonetheless. I wasn't overly impressed on my first visit to AP, but I'm so ready to go back again!
