Your opinion of possible WDW RESORT and cruiseline casinos?

....Indian tribes are recognized as "soverign nations" As such they are not covered completely by Federal law, but operate (as I understand it) as a strange subset. It isn't willy nilly - all tribes are not able to operate casinos, there is some Federal requirements I'm not clear on.

I am not sure all tribes are recognized as nations. They each have to have their own land grant and treaty agreement in place with the U.S gov't before they can open a casino.
I feel strongly that if anyone deserves to own casinos and make money off Americans' gambling, it is the indian tribes! They have found a way to make good money off of the lousy land America left them with- more power to them! Why cut in on their big source of income? Let's leave casinos to them, and let Disney concentrate on being the best in family entertainment. :mickeybar

I would love to see a casino on the cruise especially if it opens before our 2006 cruise LOL. I agree with another poster that if they put it out near Disney's Wide world of sports complex it would not be a bad thing. I like the boardwalk area personally but out by WWS would also be very good.

I'll answer it this way; What would Walt say?

HBC

I wonder what Walt would have said about a large entertainment complex called "Pleasure Island"...or about some of the TV shows on the network owned by the company that carries his name. :guilty:

It's all about the $$$$ now. I don't think management has really cared about that Walt would say for a long time.

I'm not anti-casino, but question the location being mentioned. If they really want a casino, why not put it in a location away from the more family oriented resorts and attractions?

Just my slightly more than 2 cents worth...

Wild! Absolutely wild!

First, I'd have no problem with one casino as part of the adult nightclub complex known as Pleasure Island. My wife and I certainly would add it to our list of things to do while we're at WDW. And my mind is awash with thousands of transient nodes of thought about what a Disney casino would be like. Cocktail waitresses in Disney Princess outfits? Slot Machines that play "When you wish upon a star" when three Jiminy Crickets come up? Goofy, Chip and Dale as dealers? Mickey & Minnie as greeters? Donald in charge of security? The mind boggles....

What would Walt think? I assure you kind folks that there are already more than enough things that DisneyCo does to keep Walt spinning at a constant 7200 RPM in his grave (cryogenically cooled, of course). PI is obvious, but also repackaged crud like Dinoland and - yecch - much of DCA.

And - gasp - Disney doing something to make more money? Incredible. Hey, I'm a pixie-dust kind of guy, but my glasses aren't so rose-colored that I don't see that Disney is a business that exists to make money. Disney created The Studios to answer Universal's move to FL. PI is Disney's Church Street Station. And there are jimhillmediarumors that the 5th WDW park will be a DisneySea-type place, to counter Sea World.

There are things at WDW that others do that I don't - and that's fine with me. My ego isn't so large that I feel that every potential Disney ride, attraction, park, restaurant or resort has to appeal to me or it shouldn't be built.

C'mon, nine! Mickey needs a new pair of gloves! :rotfl2:

Be well!

PS I join tjkraz in requesting understanding as to why (other than knee-jerk "casinos/gambling == bad") a Disney casino upsets so many folks....

I've heard...in Mickey's casino you can trade in one DVC point and get a $5 chip. ;)

lol

as bad as I gamble, I should just buy more points flat out from Disney. :earseek: :earboy2:
