I took a look at the pancanal.com website. Did you know there are photos of the Magic going thru in 2005? Go to the multimedia section and click on live cameras. Look to the lower right and you can click on the Magic's 2005 journey thru the locks. Very cool. :cool2:

That is totally cool! I spent that entire day here at the computer watching her go thru. Swore if she went again I would be on board!

Those school are all in my neck of the woods. Half our 8th grade goes to northgate. The rest attend other private/public schools, carondelet delasalle etc. It's a small community in a large area! See how everyone has spread out! Nice to know when you are talking to people they know your neck of the woods. Usually it just, 30 miles east of san francisco! :)

I didn't grow up out in the east bay, piedmont girl here, but I had friends that did. Maybe we know some people who know some people:rolleyes1

and goodnight..this is really it...really..no really!

Stephanie,
Was someone talking about a mini scrapebook meet for us N. CA people? I was trying search back but I can't find it.

Wow I finally decide to read up and jump into this thread and I am already being talked about! :rotfl: I am a OCD planner as well so this should be lots of fun hanging out here a couple times a day to catch up and add more things to my to do list. Call me crazy but I just had to buy a fish extender on ebay since you guys had pictures posted. That crossed one thing off my list. Then I read a few more pages of posts and added like ten more.

Oh and hey to everyone in the Northern Cali area! Me too Me too

Our Place in Bodega Bay is called Memory Maker...

i have heard of people packing smaller suitcases and putting them in bigger ones for more room to go home with!

we just pack duffle bags (my husband has waterproof ones from the oil field) empty and fill them with all the dirty clothes leaving plenty of room in the suitcases for important stuff!

We even packed wine in two smaller hard suitcases (in wine shippers so they were very safe) and after consumption on the cruise, we brought back all of our goodies in them! We even used duffles for dirty clothes and shipped it all back from Florida. (We were on the EB Repo last time.)

Ok - thought I'd introduce ourselves as we have PAID OUR DEPOSIT! So excited.

We live in the San Francisco Bay area, have four boys under 9 (DS 9, DS 7 DS 4 DS 1). We just got off the Jan. 20 Magic staying in the Roy Suite - boy was that a treat! We are in connecting 9's now, hoping one of the four Cat. 1 or 2 opens up for our family of 6. But if not, who cares! We will be having fun on deck 2 and enjoying every minute!

My husband and I have been on many cruise lines (RCCL, Celebrity, NCL, Princess) but find the DCL is just perfect for our family with the boys at their ages.

Our big issue is figuring out the school - our school is a public one, but they don't lose any funding if kids don't go to school (it has a financially strong foundation). But 10 days...argg. Only two (4th grader and 2nd grader) will be affected. I guess I feel like this is a special opportunity - we could go on another cruise line for the Panama Canal during summer time but it just wouldn't be the same. Our kids start school the last week in August so the EB wasn't an option as missing the first week of school would be too tough.
When would you all advice me to notify the school? I was thinking about waiting until right before Christmas.

The only hiccup would be if STAR testing is done while we are gone (both the testing and makeup). We can't miss that. I'm hoping it will be that second week in May, right before we leave.

Anyway, looking forward to trying to keep up with the board. Our Jan. 20 meet was so quiet! Thank you to everyone for putting in all the effort and time into this. It is great!
Lisa

We are also in Northern Cal and our Star testing usually ends by May 10, so we are hoping that taking our then 7th grader out of school won't hurt too much... She will be 13 at the time of the cruise, talk about drama!

HI IAN!!!

Another good idea - didn't realize the TVs had timers on them....I know mine does at home.

We set that up for the Panama Canal morning. We were pretty sure that we would arrive later than promised and we were correct.

Still very strange to see hundreds of people camped out on the top decks drinking champagne and mimosas as 7 am! I had to have my coffee first, then caught up around 10 am!

Our Place in Bodega Bay is called Memory Maker...

See I knew I felt right at home here!

People always ask if my name comes from scrapbooking and the answer is no. I was finally signing up for the Dis after lurking for ages and was trying to think of a name for myself. I could not think of anything good at all. Then after realizing I was listening to the dvd "Singalong Songs, Disneyland Fun" for like the millionth time it hit me. The song my son loved to sing into a make up brush ( he was 2) Making Memories. I know among this crowd there must be a dozen or more of you who have this really old tape or dvd. It is a sing along filmed at Disneyland many years ago, they released it again for the 50th and we have it on dvd. It really gets the kids excited about upcoming trips to see the Disney resort on tv.

Thanks - I just looked at the thread. One post about made me cry:

"Hi,

Many great points here. I would like to offer a different perspective. My son usually misses 1 week a year of school to go on a Disney trip. He is 14. He is my youngest child and I really wanted to spend some quality time with him. After all this is it he will be grown and gone soon. I always had told people that I felt family time is just as important as school time. He has good grades and has always made up all his missed work. Now skip back to this past summer. We got devastating news that my son had Hodgkin's Lymphoma(cancer). The week we spent in the hospital we spent many an hour talking about all our past Disney trips. I am so HAPPY i chose to do what i did and spend the time with him on trips. Life is too short and you never know what will be thrown at you. Do not feel guilty about missing school. My son is cured now and just finished the end of his treatment on Friday. I know there will be more trips and more missed school. What will he remember in life-the fact that he missed school or the time we spend as a family.
School is important but so is our precious limited time with our children.

Bug and Slinkyman"

WE HAVE TO GO! I can't wait to spend 15 days without work, without cell phones, just with my kids and husband. I can't recall ever doing that. This will be the time! I can't wait. Lisa

Had a few tears myself reading this. It's always good to remember that life is too short. Erma Bomback's book is a good one for learning this lesson.

My DH also reminded me that we should do as many fun, wonderful Disney trips as we can while our daughter is still of an age to enjoy them as she is growing up WAY to fast already and she is our only only.
