which drop is worse--Jurassic park river ride or Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls?

Maybe it's just a mind game because the atmosphere of the two rides is so different but I've never, ever thought Dudley's drop is as intensive as JPRA. Dudley is cartoonish, so I guess I equated that with "mild". But screaming dinosaurs that are trying to rip you apart? Hmm, so the drop must terrifying, yeah? :lmao:

And both can get you a whole lot wetter than Splash Mtn.

The drop on JP really made me lose my stomache. I thought the angle of the drop seemed steeper.

Is Dudley's the one where you go underground for part of the drop (or under a tunnel or something)?? I think that part really got me as well because I didn't know what was under there...and the anticipation really got to me.

Not to add anything on the drop debate, but Dudley has always been my favorite ride at IOA. I watched the cartoons many times in past years and the ride is so faithful to them - I think that's why it has such a sentimental attraction for me. The theming is just excellent, much like Splash Mountain at Disney (no surprise that SM is one of my favorite Disney attractions, right after Haunted Mansion).

I mean, the outside of the ride is cool to look at, but as far as theming goes when you're ON it, it was kind of pathetic to me. Lots of bare areas, whereas Splash Mountain has TONS of theming inside & out.

It's supposed to be like that. Dudley is all about pure cheese & silliness. And yes, the drop is steeper than JP, but JP is taller.

And as has been said, there are no dry seats on Dudley. On JP, the back might get you less wet than the front, but there's no guarantee.

We went on it just after it opened and im certain the the jets that squirt across after the end drop weren't there and the water guns on the bridge def were not there. even before that i remember how soaked i was. we wentstraight on blutos bilgerats whilst we were soaked hehe

Believe me my 2 DS's and I were that wet when we got off that DH who was waiting to go on next in the baby swap area ended up giving it a miss once he had seen us.

Stupid me was wearing a white vest top as well :scared1:

Need I say more

If you want to stay dry on Dudley the perfect seat is in your hotel room. You will not stay dry! The 1st time I ever went I do remember staying pretty dry (2000) but I don't think they had the water guns turned on at the time. I think it is a fantastic ride and it is a blast to get sprayed by the guns while you pass through the end of the ride but it really does get ridiculous if you are staying anywhere but on site and no matter where you are staying your shoes are shot for the rest of the day. I also think Popeye is the greatest raft ride ever and so fun but it has the same problem.......your day is over once you go on it. You will get sprayed and dumped on throughout. I think that is probably great in July but I'm usually there in february and there is a reason both rides are walk ons even when it is in the 80's. I do think they are the greatest water rides ever but I think they would be just as good if they shut off the guns!

To combat the "getting wet" problem, I've thought about buying and wearing a water proof poncho during the ride. Since Im going in the summer, I'll probably wear water shoes and swim trunks to the park so IM not consirned about my lower half getting wet. But I would HATE to walk around the park all day with a drenched T-Shirt. If I wear a poncho, will that save me from getting my shirt wet on Dudley/Popey/JP?

On Dudley, the secret to staying dry with a poncho is to wrap all that plastic around you really snug, pull the excess up at the bottom and seal with a few seconds from an impulse sealer. :lmao:

A poncho is pretty effective on JPRA. :thumbsup2

Poncho + sit in the back of JP = dry.

Poncho + Dudley = you should be okay. Pack an undershirt and keep your normal shirt tucked inside your poncho.

Poncho + Popeye = not very effective. Again, pack an undershirt and put your normal shirt in the barge's plastic storage compartment.

If you ever watched the Dudley Do-Right cartoon then you know the theming is dead on accurate with the cartoon. To make it have TONS of theming would be heretical to the nature and content of the cartoon. :cool2:

:scared1:

I can only answer a couple of your questions, I don't really remember getting that wet on JP, I think our shorts were pretty wet, but not drenched, I would have remembered if we were drenched, because we didn't stay on site and we didn't go back to change.

I know that JP is a longer drop than splash mt, but as far as the 'scare factor', it was about the same as splash mt, like I said I rode JR twice, and as I stated above I DO NOT like long steep drops, but I make exceptions for splash mt and JP! :thumbsup2

After reading the reviews about Do Rights, I do think I'll sit that one out. :scared1: I know the rest of my group will ride it though, because they will ride anything!!! :scared1:

I love splash mountain and absolutely hated Jurassic Park it was much more intense. I refuse to ride it again.

Jurassic Park isn't as intense as DDR. The drop on JP is convex; on DDR it's concave. Personally I'm not a huge fan of DDR - probably because I've never seen the cartoons!

Yup, i've never seen it. It's good to know though, next time I ride it I can enjoy the theming for what it's worth. :)

I love, love, love Splash Mountain because of the characters and the songs--- But Splash Mounting scares the ever-livin' daylights out of me on the drop. I can ride Jurassic Park, Dudley, Hulk, and Dueling Dragons without hesitation. Splash scares me because of the Briar Patch. It looks like hundreds of antlers waiting to impale me. Looking down on those antlers (i.e. briar patch thorns) and then dropping down under them, I see myself being stabbed hundreds of times and lying bleeding and floating lifeless in the water at the end of the ride.

I know the drop is higher on Jurassic Park than Splash Mountain but it doesn't seem that way when I am on the ride. JPRA doesn't scare me at all. The drop on Dudley Do-right is actually steeper than on JPRA or Splash but at least it doesn't have antlers.

Ok, I'm afraid of Splash Mountain because of the drops.
I have ridden it many times in my life.
I have ridden Jurassic Park twice and refuse to get on it again. I cry every single time because of how high it is.

Dudley Do-Right is my FAVORITE IOA ride EVER.
The drop isn't that bad because it is outside. It is really fun.

Splash is fun since you have so many small drops...just teasing you for what's to come. And the scenes they have inside are great! I just wish Disney would release "Song of The South" again...I would buy it! :thumbsup2

You're falling much faster on JP since the ride vehicles are much bigger and heavier. The drop is also higher by 10 feet or so and it will be over very quickly. I've never gotten that wet on JP and I swear I've sat on every row and every seat. Some people will find Dudley's fall much worse because the vehicles are much more intimate. I like that you fall then go up on a track then fall again right before you get soaked. It's a great element to a flume ride. And yes, you will get soaked on Dudley, there's no escaping that. I think both drops are about even. They both are great rides. :thumbsup2
