Doing Disney overweight

Thanks... I know she will want to go on Toy Story Mania.

I haven't been since I was a kid but I'm so excited to start planning.

Hi Everyone. I,too, am pooh sized. I'm 5'4 and weigh now around 235-240.(been stress eating):guilty: We are going to Sea World and Universal Studios in California in just 2 weeks and I'm REALLY stressed about fitting in the rides. Has anyone been there and had any experience with this.

Also, I just want reassurance about riding California Screamin.:scared1:

I am 6'5" and 340lbs. I had no problems at Sea World or Universal Studios. California Screamin' was no problem also. Went on it more than 10 times. I can't fit on the Maliboomer (too tall and Poohish), but that was OK. Went on Mulholland Madness and thought the car was going to fly off the track, lol (it has a bunch of non-banked tight turns, I gave it a great test of engineering). I can't think of anything else. So have fun.
Steve

Thanks Steve for responding. Now I can just focus on having a good time with my family and not be stressed over the rides. I appreciate you taking the time to answer. :)

Gotta tell you. The last time I was at Disney (Sept 08) I was 6'1" and 390lbs. I had no issue at all any where. I avoided amusement parks at all costs due to my size ( have since had Gastric Bypass). but Disney is the exception. There wasn't one ride I couldn't ride. Space Mountain was a little tight, but I managed. Disney truly is size friendly.

Hi,

What kind of restraint does space mountain have? I don't mind squishing in if it's about the width of the seat but am scared of a bar or belt not closing over my stomach. Also, is it an ok ride for a 5-6 year old?

How do you travel on planes being these sizes. My last flight I had someone who was probably about 350 and he could not fit into the seat. He got there before me and refused to move. When I complained about him being halfway in my seat, he said I should get another flight or deal with him sitting next to me. Now I am not big (5'11" 170 lbs.) but it was not possible. They made him purchase the seat next to him (my seat) and they put me in business class. I cant see how you are comfortable on those rides in Disney, especially the rollercoasters.

I am sorry you had a bad experience... not all plus-size people are that rude. As all skinny are not that rude either. Personally, I haven't flown in over 20 years... partially, because I am afraid of being made to purchase a second seat that I can't afford. So we pay a bit more (as opposed to twice as much) and drive. Now if the airlines took a tip from Disney.. the seats on the planes would be more comfortable for everyone not just those that fit fine on a 17in seat!!! Disney is the only place in the world that I don't feel like I have to worry about fitting in... they don't make their seats for only so-called "normal" sized people. Other theme parks the rides are too small!

I have been wanting to take my daughter (age 5) to WDW for awhile now, but have been soooo worried about fitting in the rides... I've been trying to lose some weight (again) for the trip, but not much luck.

The info you all have given so far is amazing... makes me feel much better.

Does anyone have any experience with Dinoland rides like Primeval Whirl?

Also, I saw a picture of the Toy Story Mania ride and it looked tight.

I am only 5'3" and about 265lbs but very round... all stomach, hips and backside. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Thanks!

I'm 5'7 and about 240 pounds. I've been on all the rides at Disney, including Primeval Whirl. Primeval Whirl has a bar that lowers to your chest area. I'm a D cup, and I had no problem lowering the bar.

Toy Story was ok too, it was a bit thight for my legs cause I'm tall. But, for it was ok for my size.

I'm also trying to lose about 15 pounds before I go in September. I would feel so much more comfortable with myself.

If you need any support don't hesitate to write me.

Don't worry, you will be fine ! ;)

Thanks so much... I just might take you up on that. :)

I really feel so much better since I found this board. I understand from previous posts that Six Flags isn't for me, but does anyone have any info on Hershey Park? Is there another board for that park?

I have never been to Hershey, but your question peaked my interest so I researched it a bit... I found this ? posted on a question and answer board that may help you.

I hope it is ok to post it here...

I hope this helps...

also on their "guide for guests with disabilities" is an online brochure type thing and it gives a list of rides that "may not accommodate guests of a larger size" (page 4)
there are 13 rides listed there

Comet
Trailblazer
Sooperdooperlooper
Lightning Racer
The Claw
Roller Soaker
Skyview
Wildcat
Great Bear
Wild Mouse
Sidewinder
Tidal Force
Storm Runner

My family is going to Disney next month. I have never been (my dh has years ago) and neither have my children. I am overweight (size 24) and am wondering about larger people riding the rides. I would like to be able to ride some rides with my daughter. I am concerned about the seat sizes as well as any bars that might come across you (lock into place) to secure you in the seat.

Any information will be helpful. Thank you so much!

Just sent you a PM.

Wow, that was so nice of you to look it up... I tried searching but didn't find much... this board and allears are the only places I've found super-specific info.

Thanks again,

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting so forgive me if this has been addressed before in this thread, but I'm worried about my upcoming trip to WDW at the end of the month.

I am male, 6'4", and about 300 pounds with a chest size of about 54" (going off of suit sizes) and a 44" waist. Will I have any difficulty going on rides? I don't want to be the odd one out in my group. Thank you for your help!

my DH is also a big guy. He is 6'1" and weighs about 275 he also has a size 44" waist, not sure of his chest size. We were in Disney in Feb. and he rode anything he wanted including: sorin', space mountain, big thunder mountain, everest, test track, toy story mania, star tours, etc.

He has also ridden: splash mountain(in feb it was closed but normally it's his favorite ride), dinosaur, Indy speedway, buzz light year, mission space (got nauseous big time, lol), small world, haunted mansion, pirates of the caribbean (also his favorite, he rides it at least 10 times when we go), jungle cruise, dumbo, aladdin, goofys barnstormer, great movie ride, kali river rapids, etc.

He has always been a big guy and has always been able to ride anything in Disney he wants, I think the only thing he has never ridden is Aerosmiths Rockin Rollercoaster because he has absolutely no desire to ride it (he's a chicken).

*Just remember that anything that has a seat belt (like soarin) just pull the seat belt All the way out before you sit down and then buckling it will be a breeze. Disney is very size friendly so don't be worried about it, you'll have a great time.

Thanks! Yeah, I tend to avoid parks like Six Flags because of my size, but hopefully Disney will be much better. I haven't been since 1999 when I was a teenager, so I'm excited to see it again!

Was watching a travel channel show on America's waterparks and they did a small bit on Typhoon Lagoons Crush 'N Gusher....has anyone "pooh sized" ridden it? I would love to know if anyone had problems with the rafts or staying on them through the ride. All of the people ridding the ride on the show were "pixie sized". Two years ago I stood in the pool where it dumps riders out and I didn't see anyone "pooh sized". I want to ride, but don't want to get up to the launch and the cast member tell me I can't cuz I look like Pooh! Please advise....TIA!:thumbsup2

Hey all, I love the water parks- you will have no problems going on the crush n gusher. Go and have a great time! :thumbsup2

I love this thread. I am a size 20 and was concerned about not being able to enjoy the park.

Do any of you have tips for dealing with heat, foot fatigue etc. in the parks? I am in ok shape, but I don't have the best stamina in the heat.
