Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

OK, a few quick questions for the group:

For the FE'ers- did some of you lose your extenders? We went to rooms that were on the list, but didn't have an extender on the door for us to put our gift into. I read on at least one of the rooms that their extender was stolen - that is really sad. We left our gift balanced on the door for the rooms that didn't have the pocket extenders - hope you all got them! If not, let me know and I can mail you something!

Anyone notice a horribly nasty old lady on the cruise? I know Tozzie (Tara) did! Tozzie was at the same post cruise hotel and bus to the airport as us, and several of us were all SO upset at the way this woman was treating the staff, and other guests! Anyone who had any contact with her will know who I'm talking about. She was alone, and wore an ugly blue jacket, and was incredibly loud.

Did anyone else have cast members on their excursions? This was the first time we experienced this, and we had 2 of the performers from the musicals. In Athens, we did the "Athens Sightseeing, Acropolis, and New Acropolis Museum with Lunch - Adult Only". The paddle assistant was a guy named Morgan, and he is the actor who was Peter Pan in Dreams! And in Malta, we did the "Blue Grotto Boat Trip and Fishing Village - Adult Only", and Ashley, one of the 5 singers who did the Disney Songs show was with us. It was fun getting to know them and finding out how they got to be performers with DCL!

And finally - did anyone ever meet "armyferret" - the person who started this thread? I've been dying to find out what ever happened to her!

Yes, my next door neighbor (SR5513) had their FE bag stolen. So, we didn't put ours out at all especially when our magnets were stolen on the 2nd night. We were so sad especially my DDs who worked so hard in making the magnets. So, we only put a few out and sure enough more were stolen. I even reported it to the Guest Services and they non-chalantly told me that it must be kids or teenagers. It was such a bummer.

Thank goodness that I didn't meet her, but I probably met a "relative" of hers in the laundry room. She was absolutely horrendous. I spoke to the other ladies in the laundry room and asked if they felt the same way about "the nasty laundry lady". She ruined the Disney Magic in the laundry room for me and the others who were there. It was hard to miss her. She was so blatantly rude.

I don't think you could have met a relative, she is tooo nasty to have any relatives, they probably all disowned her. I saw this crazy woman on the ship treating a crew member like trash, and she kept waving her Platinum lanyard and reminding him she is platinum. If you ever wonder where they get the term "ugly American" she is the reason.

Thank you so much for the FE gifts. We had such a clever and creative group. I was thankful we had a reusable bag given as a gift....I had to use it as my FE bag later.

Things fell apart for us as well after we arrived on US soil. Two of our four checked bags are gone. We flew from Lufthansa in Barcelona and switched to United in Frankfurt. Somewhere between Spain and Germany our bags went missing. For all we know, the bags are still in Barcelona. They haven't located them yet. I don't know why you get a baggage ID number if they can't use it to look up where the bag was last scanned. We had to fill out a claim when we landed in US. I think the bags may be gone. The bummer is that we JUST purchased suits for the kids and they weren't cheap. Both of the kids bags went missing....along with all of our toiletries, and some of the souvenirs.

Overall it was a great trip. We enjoyed the ports and met some new friends. Some ports I wished we wished we were able to spend more time at.
The only bummer was that our family magnet was stolen from our door as well as our fish extender bag. Lesson learned though. Next time, zip ties to secure the bag to the fish. I don't know what I could have done about the magnet though...other than to not be on the 5th floor next time. I know I wasn't the only one on the fifth floor to have something stolen off the door. One family across the hall from us as we'll as my FE neighbor had something taken.

We have finally adjusted to California time. It is super hot here, like our day in Rome.

Hope everyone is doing well. We signed up to do another cruise with Disney in the future. Itinerary to be determined later though.

Have a super week!

Anyone who had any contact with her will know who I'm talking about. She was alone, and wore an ugly blue jacket, and was incredibly loud.

She was on BOTH our outbound flights (in first class). In both cases we delayed at the gate due to weather, and the pilot came on and explained that we'd be hanging out at the gate for a while. In both cases she had dosed off during the announcement, and five min later woke up, started screaming for the flight attendant, and demanding to know why we hadn't moved yet. In the second case, a few minutes after that the pilot came back on for more info, and she started screaming over the top of him about how he "must have never used a microphone before because she can't understand him." The second flight attendant used the "kill her with kindness" technique, and you could tell that REALLY got to her because she was so used to picking fights and getting a rise out of people.

We also saw her between the flights, berating the gate agent about who knows what, and demanding to know the person's name. Since she was in first on both legs and we made the connection with plenty of time I have no idea what she could possibly have had a problem with or why she would have even got in that line.

Somehow, we ended up not seeing her for the whole cruise... :yay:

Wow, I am so glad I did not see this person. For the most part, most people I saw and met were happy and pleasant people but there are always people who overreact or over dramatize their situation to the point where one can't possibly believe your eyes can roll any farther in your head.

Thankfully, saying and receiving"hi" and "good morning" to perfect strangers on the ship was more the norm for us... in fact, when we left the ship and headed for the airport, it was a culture shock to realize that the people at the airport weren't as friendly and smiley as the people we left on the ship. :rotfl2:

We had a few families not make the June 27th until the next day in Villefranche, and some luggage was still arriving at Civitavecchia. Also reports are one family had their hotel room broken into in Barcelona and their passports and $7k stolen. We left late from Barcelona apparently because they were getting things sorted out.

Lots more kids is sailing... Halls are noisier but adult areas less busy.

Wow, guess we were really lucky that everyone made it to Barcelona on time. What a horrible way to start the trip.http://www.disboards.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

What kind of carry on policy did you have from Barcelona to Germany? Sounds like we are taking same routes with United.

We didn't lose our extender but started getting worried when we were delivering and saw notes that others were stolen. As I was delivering I left our gifts where we were told the room was a FE room. We brought extras so sometimes we left where we weren't positive. I can send out ours as well if you didn't receive it - it was too big for all but one FE so we slid it behind the fish.

I don't think I saw the nasty old woman. Glad of that!

We only had one DCL tour and no cast members I was aware of. Years ago, we had a tour that the ship doctor was on. That was pretty neat.

I wonder if that was who my husband ran into at guest relations. Some platinum woman was there complaining because when she asked about the chocolate tasting no one told her that there was a wait list and how dare they. She was demanding to speak to a manager. He couldn't believe how rude she was.

What is chocolate tasting?

Just back last night after our Paris post-cruise adventure. Made it with all of our luggage so sounds like we ended up better off than some of you!

Many thanks for the wonderful fish extender gifts - everyone had really great ideas! The kids got a huge kick out of checking our FE whenever we returned to the stateroom (usually after DRAGGING them out of the kid's club!) I hope everyone got ours as well - I got a bit confused by some staterooms not having FE's hanging outside - maybe some random people got gifts too!

Our favourite ports were probably La Spezia (we did Pisa on our own) and Mykonos (possibly just because of the relaxed atmosphere in contrast to Kusadasi the day before). DH enjoyed Italy the most overall so maybe we will swing a trip back there - so many other regions to explore in that lovely country! Plus my picky eater could find stuff to eat there- let's jut say Paris was a not so pleasant adventure in that regard and we ended up just looking for Italian trattorias...

Malta was incredibly beautiful and very interesting history I had not known before (learned a lot at the historian's lecture on board), but too much brown for me being so arid and using the limestone on everything! I think I would get depressed after a while - much preferred the bright white of Mykonos.

LOVED our dining staff (Pairoj and Julia) and thoroughly enjoyed the food - loved getting all the specialty menus during this cruise. REALLY missed knowing where to eat every day when we were in Paris :) so spoiled on that ship...

Thought we would have way too much time to kill at Barcelona airport with a 12:55 flight to Paris on debarkation day. Not sure if this was the case with all airlines, but Air France check in was a JOKE. Complete chaos and some very useless people working (one guy checked in 2 people - individuals not groups - in 40 minutes). Ended up with very little time before boarding. How did those with earlier flights fare? Also got ripped off by a cab from port to airport. Still cheaper than transfers for 4 of us, but wish we had arranged private transport.

I'll try to do a proper trip report and post for others on the July 13 and Med planning threads.
Cheers!

Looking forward to reading your full report! Our favorite port was Ephesus and I learned this morning that my daughter's was La Spezia because she liked the tower.

Did you go to the beach at Mykonos and/or do a DCL tour? We were disappointed because the beach was just ok and we had a lot of difficulty getting there. If we go back, I'd love some suggestions for how to enjoy it more.

So sorry about your FE and your luggage. What an icky way to end the trip. Hope eventually your luggage shows up.

We had one cast member on our Ephesus trip. She played the evil step sister in the villain show and I saw her again dressed as a pirate with Jack Sparrow. She just signed on with Disney earlier that year. She said they had her do a few cruises to learn her "part" since she was part of of the shows. I think Ephesus was our favorite stop overall. We loved the history and the weather reminded us of home. I would love to spend more time there. The only weird part was sitting through the Turkish rug sales pitch.

As for the luggage, still no word. We will probably have to write out a detailed list today for the airline if it isn't found. It's just stuff. The hassle will be shopping to replace the contents. We carried on three pieces of luggage (full of shoes, extra change of clothes, FE gifts, and our digital devices) plus one personal carry on. Each of us had a backpack. On the way out to Europe, they weighed our carry on bag to be sure it was within the limits. They didn't weigh it on the way back...same airline. One funny side note, our son set off the scanner when going through security. It appears that his "Invisilign" braces were the culprit. They had him take out his clear retainer and walk through it again, then he was cleared.

After my FE bag was taken...and later our family magnet, I spoke with guest services daily. It seems to be common to have magnets to go missing. I also took long walks down all they hallways to see if they moved the magnets to other room doors...and other floors with no luck. I checked lost and found when we disembarked too. I also spoke with our cabin steward. He said there were a group of kids that kept looking down our hallway one afternoon and saw him (the steward) there..then ran away. When he finished up one of his rooms, he went back to his cart to find that the group of kids took his whole bag of chocolates to distribute in the cabins. He didn't seem surprised with the thefts on our floor since there were kids activities nearby.

All the stuff is replaceable. We did enjoy the trip despite the little hiccups. I'd love to hear from people that didn't use Disney for their tours. (What service did they use and what did they do?) Several people we met on board did their tours that way and were able to see and do more. (Since they weren't waiting for 40 others to show up at one location.) I am thinking we may do that for our next Disney cruise.

We enjoyed Ephesus itself, but I am just uncomfortable with the pushy sales technique and it was prevalent in Kusadasi. One jewellery store had a sign in the window saying that there would be no hassling, so we stopped and looked and thanked the proprietor when we continued on. On our way back down the same street, the salesperson in the jewellery store next door came up to us to tell us how we wouldn't be hassled in his store either, that there was no sign but we didn't need a sign, etc. Um, not sure that he realized that what he was doing WAS hassling? :rotfl:

I was surprised La Spezia was DH's fave port - we missed the first train to Pisa by a couple of minutes and had to kill time for a while, then were rushed a bit when we were in Pisa to make our tower climb time, but even with all my travel mess ups he enjoyed it.

In Mykonos we just wandered the village, did some shopping, saw the windmills and ate gelato (which we did everywhere :)). I had originally planned a trip to the beach, but the kids wanted to play in the ship's pool instead, but they did run around on the beach in town and tested the water. It was just a place I could have seen us spending a week and although I would have liked more time to explore the island, everyone enjoyed the half day pace.

Which beach did you go to? That's too bad that it was just OK. Was it crowded?

Just want to thank everyone for the Fish Extender gifts, everything was awesome:thumbsup2

We really enjoyed coming back to our room seeing any and all goodies that had been left.

Hopefully we'll be seeing ya sometime on a future Disney Cruise!!!!

I'm SURE that is the same person!!

That seems to be her usual method - wave her Platinum lanyard and scream at everyone. I really think she spent her entire trip complaining.

Here's a few of her gems:

On the bus from the ship to the hotel after the cruise, the 9:00 bus had the audacity to wait until around 9:30 for the last ones off the ship. Nasty old lady (referred to as NOL) was sitting in the front, and as each person came on the bus, happy with the glow of a wonderful cruise, she would bark at them "YOU'RE LATE!!! HURRY UP!! WE ARE ALL WAITING!!!" WTH? Check-in isn't until 3 pm at the Hilton, so what's her rush?

A family tried to be nice to NOL, and asked her, "Did you enjoy your cruise?"
Her response: "Yes, but I wouldn't have, if I ran into people like you."

At the hotel, NOL demands that the Disney hospitality people get her bags off the bus, instead of the porters, so that she doesn't have to tip.

In the check-in line, NOL has someone hold her place, which is unfortunately right behind us. When we are at the desk, NOL comes charging up, throws some Hilton card on the counter, and screams at a trainee, "You don't have any idea what you are doing, do you?" The other desk clerk quickly says, "No, he's in training". My husband, who at this point can't help it, says "He's in training, and YOU have lost your place, so go to the back of the line!!!" NOL quickly gets back behind us and shuts up, at least for a while.

Later, we are at dinner at the hotel restaurant, along with Tozzie and a couple of other cruise families. Lo and behold, there is NOL again. She raises her hand and screams for the wait staff multiple times (for water, bread, where's her food, how much orange is in the orange/chocolate mousse, she wants her check, etc.) She says, "You need more ink in your printer, I can't read this bill. Is the service included? Because the service was terrible!" She is complaining about not having a BUTTER KNIFE :rolleyes2. She demands the manager, and says, "The food is good, but the service was terrible, and I won't be coming back here" at which, the entire restaurant, which was all Disney cruisers, immediately erupted in loud cheers and applause.

I am really thinking about writing to Disney and asking them to seriously consider not allowing this horrid person on any more cruises, because she is seriously ruining so many others' vacations.

I am so sorry about the luggage. It really seems to be a big problem with United.

My DSIS pointed her out to me. She was on a shoreexcursion with them and was aweful but this time it was not the staff it was another passenger from the ship fighting about their kids being unrulely. DSIS says the kids were fine and this is coming from a high school teacher who has seen it all. I cant wait to share the comments about her with DSIS.

Wow... just ... wow. Are you sure she wasn't green, with a large crooked nose and with a cackle that would turn the hair on your neck on end? Holy crap.

Wow... just ... wow. Are you sure she wasn't green, with a large crooked nose and with a cackle that would turn the hair on your neck on end? Holy crap.

Talk about a miserable old git.

No the Wicked Witch of the West is a lot nicer than this woman, in the restaurant everyone who was their apologized as we didn't want them to think all American's were like her.

If she had fallen overboard she would have been back on the ship immediately as the fish would have thrown her back they wouldn't have even taken her.

As for her excursion issues, DCL does have many adult only departures if she didn't want to deal with kids, she should have booked them.

It takes alot of effort to be that miserable in life, I could never live like that.
