MAY 2014 Car Rentals

Missyrose - For us it is a huge benefit to have no additional driver fee. Dollar has a fee, so we don't use them. We both tend to take turns driving around when at WDW. We have used Dollar in the past when only he was driving and when their rate was much lower than anyone else's.

I don't have a Costco membership but those rates are definitely the best i've seen. I was able to get a good rate with Budget using this $35 off code:

https://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/html/bridge/assoc/usaa/40offwkly.html?MID=usaa_40off

Hopefully it can help someone else as well!

appears that offer is for USAA members. we are:) but found dollar and Alamo to be lower. Not familiar with budget's policies or whether they would ask to see USAA membership card (or any other i.e. Costco).

did find that dollar had rates approx. $25 less than what I have for Alamo via AAA rate which has been beating the citi special. but factoring in the free extra driver for 9 days Dollar still hasn't 'caught up' to my existing Alamo

Yes, rates with Costco continue to drop for my 8 day rental (5/9 - 5/17) for an economy using ID 852875 and Coupon Code MUGZ061 with BUDGET. I just got a reservation for these 8 days for $129! We are Costco members so can use the code.

Woohoo!

So of course, I did online check-in (again) and printed my car rental stuff yesterday... And then I check for the heck of it today, and the costco rates have dropped! Now with Avis, picking up MCO, dropping off at embassy suites by universal, 1 week, intermediate car... $127! That's a $30 savings over what I had (and was happy with) at Alamo!

Did you use the $40 off costco coupon or the $30 one? The $40 one is MUGZ061.

Good for you!

Alamo rates are way down today for Memorial Day weekend, low enough that it's making me think about paying a little bit more to go with Alamo instead of Dollar. Can anyone compare the two for me?

Until our last trip in Feb at MCO, we always used Dollar or Thrifty - seemed to be the lowest $.

However, in Dollar's terms = you must provide a gas receipt w/i 10 miles of the airport (when not paying Dollar to fill the tank). There were some posts that some people were told such at the checkin counter and/or asked for the reciept upon dropping off the car.

I did not want to take the risk. Figured they would probably start enforcing it when I was the renter! So now we go with Alamo - 1st time in Feb. Their terms do not state 10 mile receipt needed. I called & asked before using them & was told, not needed. Just researched Enterprise & they also do not require the 10 mile receipt. I plan on researching National next.

In Feb at MCO we checked in at the counter. Told to go to garage & take any car in our category (signs posted). I like that. Got one with 2000 miles!

In Nov 2013, Dollar gave us our car keys at the counter - no choice. I don't know if Dollar has changed that procedure.

The one thing I did not like about Alamo - their paperwork does not provide space for writing dings/marks/dents, etc. on the car. Not a problem in Feb because car was new & no marks. I asked about it & was told if there are dings/dents, etc., to advise the booth person (as drive out) & it will be notated - but I would want a copy & I don't know if that is provided.

We will use Alamo again in couple of weeks at MCO.

NOTE - I saw a post & found it to be true - the Tuesday before your pickup date is usually the lowest cost - so check then.

I just reduced my May 11-18 Alamo rental from $148 to $118 for a compact.:yay: I will continue to monitor the rest of the week up until the day before I leave! So far the trend for me has been prices lowered every Friday.

:car: :car: :car: :car:

Just added another set of confirmation/cancellation emails to my inbox. :)

Woo hoo! :cool1: I got my Dollar rate back down to the original rate I had of $66.84 from the $149 rate I got stuck with before I stupidly canceled the original reservation. I love these Friday afternoon price drops! Took over a month of trying but I'm very happy I was so persistent. Dates are 5/15-18 compact car using the AAA local office code.

when you all are reporting rates, are you talking including taxes and fees, or before the taxes and fees.
I got my Dollar to 109.00 INCLUDING TAXES AND FEES 6 weeks ago for a mid size May 12-May 19 and havent seen anything remotely close to that except Dollar again two weeks ago for about an hour.

I include the whole price with taxes, fees, etc.

I'm down another dollar with my Budget Intermediate rental that starts tomorrow. $117.65 with my Costco code and coupon. I'm checking every half hour or so.

An update to my post last Friday -- I have just lowered my Alamo rate again, still using the Costco code (but booking directly on the Alamo website), as well as coupon code AU2291VYT, which may be a Costco code (not sure). I couldn't get that code to work previously but it worked today.

My new rate for the standard/full size for 5/23-6/7 is $443 inc. taxes, so I've saved $59!!

I am a noob at car rentals. Following this thread, I used Costco code MUGZ061 directly on Budget site and made 2 reservations in 2 cities. The rates were the best I could find anywhere. Question: does Budget ask for proof of Costco membership when picking up car? I am RapidRez member and normally just go straight to pick up reserved car.

I am arriving from overseas travel so I could join online but would not have physical card on me. I really don't need the membership (unless I have to) as I am on an overseas assignment and come home only twice a year. Would appreciate any advice!

Despite what 499 people tell you, you just never know if you will be the lucky 500th to be asked to provide credentials, do you? pirate:

I have never been asked for anything. I doubt you will be that 500th person(if he even exists). I wouldn't worry about it.

Welcome to the Disboards.

Hi guys,

I was thinking that Disney offered an auto rental discount for DVC members and/or Annual Passholders. I just spoke with Member Services and I guess they stopped that a couple years ago.

What's my best bet for obtaining a discount for a rental this May? I am a DVC member, AP holder and Costco member (not sure if there are others that provide discounts, but I may fall into those categories too).

Thank you!
:goodvibes

The AP code for Alamo is 860292. You can also got to the Costco travel website and search for cars there.
