Where are you staying on your next Disneyland Trip and Why?

For our trip in two weeks, I'm booked at the Red Lion, but I'm not sold on it. It seemed the best fit between value ($110/nt) and proximity. I know it's at the outer limit of what most consider "walkable," but I think we can manage. However, I'm going to see if I can find a closer place at similar pricing.

A few years ago we stayed at BWPPI. I loved the location, the sit-down hot buffet breakfast. The room was ok, but we hated the miniscule pool

How minuscule? We have a small above ground pool at home ( 14' round) and the kids have hours of fun in it. Is the pool smaller than that and unenjoyable? I guess I'm lost on how a pool of any size could be lame, but I want to know ahead of time so I can prepare the kids.

Less than 2 weeks before our trip, we decided to switch hotels. We are now booked at the Hilton because husband found a flash sale. Woo hoo!

Here's our experience with the Disney-area hotels.

We used to stay at the Ramada Maingate (now Grand Legacy) when we first started bringing the kids when they were young (starting 2003). The prices then were fantastic, but they continued to raise the price until we were priced out. The pool was good for the kids (although it felt like it was never heated) and the continental breakfast got us by until we ate our early lunch in the parks. My only complaint was how noisy the hotel was. The walls were so thin that we could hear conversations from next door, and when the people upstairs would come in late at night it would sound like a herd of elephants. Yet one year we found you got what you paid for when we booked too late and had to get one of their more expensive rooms. It was like night and day - quiet, clean, more fancy and spacious.

A few years ago we stayed at BWPPI. I loved the location, the sit-down hot buffet breakfast. The room was ok, but we hated the miniscule pool. My biggest beef was that no one told me when I called to book the room that we had to pay to park. Not only that, we also MUST move our car by 3:00 pm the day of check out or be towed! I found that out at check-in. So I had the double-whammy of paying to park at the hotel and at Disney. I'll never stay there again.

We stayed one year at the GCH villas as a treat from a friend who let us purchase her DVC points. That was amazing!

For this summer's trip we booked at a good rate at the Camelot, but when we had to change the reservation a week later we were charged $20 extra a night. Now I'm going to try and find somewhere else that might be cheaper, if I can. This will be our last trip to Disney because of how expensive it is - we've been priced out of going anymore. I'm so sad about it. So much for my college days when we could get in for $18.00! We're using my Disney Visa points for our tickets, which is the only way we can afford the side trip here (we'll already be in California to visit family).
shouldn't have been $20 more a night if you're staying 5 nights or more. Did they accidentally remove the discount?

We always had an ok time in the pool. Not for swimming but splashing and playing around is good.

Haven't picked a place yet but I know for sure it's going to be offsite. Staying onsite isn't worth it to me at DLR. (A definite must at WDW though)

April 2009 - My sister and I - Sheraton Park (she worked for a starwood hotel and you can't beat the $59/night Starhot rate)

June 2011 - Solo trip - Sheraton Park 3 nights (sister still worked there and I loved that price) Paradise Pier 1 night - The Sheraton was out of hot rates and disney sent me a pin code that made Paradise Pier just $10 more for the night than the regular $119 rate I was paying at the Sheraton - no brainer for me!

December 2013 - Me my hubby, my sister her hubby and our parents - Sheraton Park - 7 nights. My sister no longer worked for Starwood but after booking Anaheim Plaza she found an AMAZING rate for the Sheraton that put them at basically the same price so we switched.

August 2016 - Me and my hubby - GCV 3 nights and Tropicana 5 nights. We're using our DVC points for the first bit then I started looking to reserve the end of our trip and Tropicana had a deal for $20 off/night if you stayed 5 or more nights. We'd been torn between 4 or 5 more nights already but when I could book the last night for just $20 more I jumped on it. It's $572 taxes in for 5 nights. I've checked every hotel and motel within walking distance that I've seen recommended and I can't even come close to that deal.

I agree that the pool at the BWPPI is on the small side and to make things worse, it's often very busy.
We like the hotel itself but have given up on using the pool.
If a pool is important to you, I suggest the PVI. It's pool is a little bigger but more importantly, it's never been crowded when we're there. In fact often times we are the only people in it when we've taken a break in the middle of the day.

We have stayed at BW raffles in May 2014 for our honeymoon. It was nice and right next to the toy story parking lot. We had there bfast several times and is was okay. Last year we were wanting to stay there again for the 24 hr event but the prices had nearly doubled from the $99 a night that we had paid. So I researched hotels that were close and not horribly priced, that's when I found BW Stovalls. It was one of the best hotels we have stayed at and it was $125 a night for the 24 hour event. The distance for us was great, a 10 minute walk to the front gate could not be beat! We are returning in July and I already knew what hotel I was going to book for dh and I, plus we got it at a great rate again through my work. Stovalls has become our hotel for the future.

We are staying at the Sheraton Park at the Anaheim Resort. I signed up for the American Express SPG card and got the sign-up bonus. So basically we are staying for *almost* free. It is a little farther away than we had originally planned but we can't beat the price. We just have to walk a little farther.
I will also be staying at the Sheraton Park because we are going with my daughter's dance group and that is where they booked. I'm a little worried about the trek to the park....anyone know how long it takes to walk from there and/or if there is a shuttle?

It's about a 15 -20 minute walk to the park depending on pace/crosswalks however the Toy Story shuttle is only about a 5 minute walk and is free. It runs continuously also!

While first admitting I've never been with children - we really enjoy the walk. It's a straight shot and I like it as a way to get excited for the parks or wind down at the end of the night. My family alleges that its a faster walk if you head around the back way and go in through Downtown Disney (and it definitely was when we were going to our breakfast at Storyteller's) I like the walk straight down Harbour.

We stay exclusively at La Quintas because we bring my cat. It is one of the only property I've found that:
a) allows cats
b) doesn't charge a pet fee
c) doesn't care we leave my cat Riley unsupervised in the room while we're in the parks

Wow v impressed that Kender and Nonsuch both travel with their cats. I hope my children never hear of such a thing or our Tabby will be tagging along on all our adventures. (I love our kitty but frankly enjoy my vacations from cleaning her litter box.) We are visiting Dland next mo and staying at the beeeaauutifulll DLH. We love it there. You can get threecomfy beds in one quiet room (two Qs and sofabed) so my teens can each have own place to sleep w/out needing to pay for two rooms. Plus the pools are just a blast and easy access to Trader Sam's (tiki drinks anyone?) and the Monorail to swoop you right into the mayhem of Tomorrowland. I CANNOT WAIT!!!!

We're staying at Fairfield in just a couple of weeks, I haven't been to DL since the 50th celebration, so we're really looking forward to being there for the 60th! Picked this hotel for 2 reasons: proximity to the parks, and I was able to use Marriott points to pay for the room.

I'll be staying at the Camelot Inn in August! And honestly a big reason we're staying there is that my mom's favorite musical is Camelot! Haha :) Then we were pleased with the reviews and what all of you had to say on here - and the price is right and the location seems great!

Quick question for anyone who's stayed there: What's the power outlet situation like? We'll have 3 cell phones, 3 charging sticks and one camera battery to charge every night So I'm thinking a power strip might be necessary - unless there happens to be an abundance of outlets!

Bring a power strip. Good idea! I'd never thought to do that.

We always bring a multi port USB charging station for all of our devices. I can't find the exact one we have but it is similar to these:

Most new TVs (flat panels) and DVD Players have at least one USB port on them. It will depend on the Brand/Quality of the equipment in your room whether or not they have enough power to charge a device and/or if the TV needs to be on to pass the power through..

Lots of unknown variables if you haven't stayed somewhere before so I wouldn't necessarily count on it, but it is something to check if you get to a hotel and don't have enough outlets and are in a bind.
