Private Cabanas at Magic Kingdom: Last Day to Rent One - February 17, 2017

So what's wrong with it being a money grab?
Disney is a business...
And they're in the business of making money...
Making money allows for expansion and improvements....
Improvements are good...
End of story...
Mic drop.

:rolleyes1

I didn't say anything was wrong with it, just that it wasn't for us. :confused3 No need for a mic drop over a personal preference. There's a heck of a lot of other things I'd spend $650 on at WDW before this.

Just because your nephew can use the tents and your family can afford them makes them no less tacky or for the 'elite guests'.

My special needs nephew can afford it, he works.

Keep walking.

In the spirit of "Thanksgiving," I would like to remind everyone to follow the DIS Guidelines when posting.

This thread remains focused on the Cabanas that are new to MK and may be added to other parks. Everyone is entitled to share their opinion of the cabanas in a non-argumentative manner and without dropping any mics.

I think one big element missing from some of the opinions on this thread is the very broad spectrum of people that visit the parks.

For some folks, it takes them a week or more to earn $650. For others, only a day. There are also those that have the ability to earn this sum of money in an hour or less. If Disney offered me a cabana for less money than it takes me to earn in an hour, I would not hesitate to reserve one. It's all about perceived value. Not of the cabana, but of the money spent on one.

Very true ... and the fact that DIS folks are only a small fraction of WDW guests.

I would also add that I bet some of the folks who feel this is very overpriced may also be staying at deluxe resorts and eating at Disney restaurants that others would never pay for or see a value in. We choose to spend our money in a way that makes our trips a better experience. I would much rather stay at values or offsite, packing a sandwich lunch, so I had cash flow for the extras like Club Villain, Early Morning Magic, Dessert Parties and maybe a cabana.

It's all about perceived value.

I have to tell you guys, when I was actively answering questions for the Disney Parks Moms Panel, guests used to write in ALL THE TIME asking for ways that they could make their trip more special; even completely over the top. They would say they already knew about VIP Tour Guides and Disney Floral and such, but they wanted some other suggestions. I feel like with as many of those questions that came in, many more probably asked for suggestions through Guest Services and other official Disney outlets.

Let's face it, we all know Disney is a for-profit company and when the customers are asking for something, smart businesses figure out a way to give it to them.

I wonder if they will appear in other parks and how many of them there are? If you are there from rope drop to fireworks and there are 8 of you I think if you can afford it what an experience. Some people hire plaids. Some do dessert parties. Some do fairy tale weddings. I like they offer many things. Some of us enjoy press a penny still!

Yes and a step further is the choices made during the year where a guest spends their money, many non elite quests can come up with this and/or other purchases because of those choices and circumstances.

I couldn't agree more. When budgeting for our trips, we may choose one or two special things to do (like Wild Africa Trek, Club Villain, etc.) and then offset that cost somewhere else (breakfast in the room, QS meals, discounted room rates, etc.). I don't see the uproar on these boards when people are discussing extras for their trips like hard-ticket parties, dessert parties, TS meals etc., but for some reason, these cabanas really struck a nerve. If someone chooses to budget their money to allow for a cabana (which I would if we travel with extended, multi-generational family), I really don't understand the problem. A cabana for 6 is cheaper than MVMCP for 6 and some might find more value in the cabana. So be it.

I still can't over that these don't have air conditioning. I'm not sure about sitting in a tent in the Florida heat without AC! :)
They will also be sort of useless during the afternoon storms. I don't think they qualify as something you would want to be sitting in during the daily lightning storms
I guess in the cooler weather they will be better.

I was thinking the same. Shade only gives so much relief from the heat. But it's fall going into winter so the days will be getting cooler or at least less humid. Though today is quite warm in the 80's.

Who knows, maybe they will end up pumping in air like they did for the celebrity autograph tents during SWW?

I say zero chance these will be there in the summer, unless AC in some way or a whole new set up if they are popular after this test run.

It's perfect here now though, today might test it a bit though. 80 already but not humid-perfect.

I might consider this in EPCOT for NEXT NYE if they are offered there. But it absolutely will depend on location.

With my husband's mobility issues it would be so great to know we had a place to recharge (us and our phones) but the location would need to work for us. Having a long walk to / from our favorite haunts in world showplace would defeat the purpose.

I'll be watching this for sure. Sharing with another family or two would be great. Share costs and maybe make a new friend.
