The Gulf State Park DISMeet 2017 Thread (aka "The Sequel")

I meant to ask you what your new route would be now that you're coming from Tuscaloosa instead of Birmingham

Ed is probably coming down hwy 25/ hwy 5 from T-town to Thomasville and taking hwy 43 to I-65, and maybe I-165 to the tunnel, I know you know that way Tiggerdad, he might have something different mapped out but 43 to 25 is a popular route from Mobile to T-town,

Chickened out last night on moving the camper I'm my swamp bogg of a back yard last night, I waited til this morning to do it so I can see what I'm tearing up, then if the rain hold off may load some things up, big difference packing up a 27 ft 5er compared to my old 43 ft city block...

Then this afternoon going to the movie theater to see Smokey and the Bandit, their doing a few select showing because it's the 40th anniversary!

My loaner camper for GSP, (thanks mom & dad). Got it out of the back yard no problem, soon as I walked inside the bottom fell out again.

Randy, it's so tiny compared to your old one. I think the truck is bigger :-).

We took the rig over to the shop. They will get the mirror fixed so we can drive, plus an estimate on the body work. Did get a few things over there and some other work done. Quite proud of myself I changed the backlight that was out all by myself, while Bert dealt with tires. Good thing is on Thursday should be easy to get out of the shop.

Am so excited I only have 3 days of work this week :cool1:.

Plus I only see one slide out on the driver's side, Kris.

Poor ol' Randy may have to park over on the side of Gulf with us little ol' popup owners unless he is willing to "up his trailer game" where the super count sliders live.

But how come Ed is coming from Tuscaloosa instead of Birmingham? j

Uh, Jim, Michael has the loosest lips on Camping Board. I now realize that secrets are safer with Donald Trump than they are with tiggerdad. If you want news to get passed around like a case of the flu, tell him in strictest confidence. :sad2: But yes, I pulled a Bert-and-Kris Garnes and moved my primary residence. I'll share the details in person after you arrive.

Yep, that's the route Randy. It's what Google maps gave me. Only change was I got off I-165 in Mobile and went up and over the New Bay Bridge (Alt 90?), rode past the USS Alabama, and then picked up I-10 on the Causeway. I wasn't comfortable with the route - too much empty 2-lane and catfish farms/goats/cattle/roadkill. Might still look for alternatives.

I'm back from Gulf Shores and will post a brief update regarding that next.

So I'm back tonight from a down-and-back to Gulf State Park. Got into town slightly after 11am and had lunch at the Tacky Jacks (Gulf Shores location).

It was good. I got a grilled grouper sandwich with fries and DD got the shrimp tacos (soft shell). I like getting my seafood any-way-but-fried at the coast. It was a nice morning albeit a cloudy one so we ate outside with a view of the canal. Sorry, no food pics.

The view was marred when Teamubr's yacht rode through a training run in preparation for His Arrival next weekend. I knew it was his because the Eurotrash boat crew in their starched dress whites (in shorts) were using rolls of 500-euro notes to wash the boat windows and then tossing the used bills in the water. Jim, we're trying to go green down here.

Next I rolled over to the local Wal-Mart where us little people shop to pick up a few things. In the last year or less they have added a "Beach Shop" section with some local "Gulf Shores" t-shirts. I am such a sucker for tie dye so I HAD to get one of the shirts on the left today. I'll wear it proudly next week. And it was affordable.

It was gusty and lightly sprinkling when I checked in about 1230pm at Gulf. Got my trailer backed in perfectly on the first attempt. Really. You believe me, right? :rolleyes1

Ducking in and out of the rain I got set up. The weather cleared as I was leaving (wouldn't you know) but I'm ready for some vacation. But the wind was brisk while I was setting up.

Everyone else's site was still occupied (checkout is 2pm) except for Blabbermouth's. Michael, the guy left while I was setting up so your site is ready for you to show up.

Lots to get done this week at home but I am looking forward to our time together at Gulf.

Ed,

Thanks for finding my "little" boat. I always forget where I leave that one. And Euros aren't what they used to be. I can't believe the exchange rates lately. :D

Um, ya'll give me minute. I'm trying to look through my text messages and PMs and find the location where Captain Tee Pee said anything about his move being a secret.

Almost there...

Just a sec...

Nope...didn't mention it. :rolleyes1

As far as secrets go, just ask @Teamubr he'll vouch for me on the "keeping a secret" thing.

Kris, congratulations on the backlight. We'll have you changing the oil and flushing the transmission in no time.

Okay this has nothing to do with our GSP reunion but I wanted to share. Through some emails and pixie dust I got invited to attend the Passholders preview of Pandora. We left Mobile AL Friday at 4AM and arrived at the Red Lion Kissimmee around 12. I unloaded the truck and headed straight to AK. Our preview time was from 6-8 pm. We lined up at 5 and they started letting us in soon after. We went directly to Flight of Passage and was able to ride in about 15 minutes. Let me tell you Disney hit this one put of the park. A lot of people are comparing it to Soarin but really this would be Soarin 10.0. It really is awesome. Then we rode the Navi River. It was pretty much walk on. It was beautiful but short. Then we looked around some before heading back to FOP. This time the wait was much longer. Probably close to an hour. The second time was great and I was able to look around. They have three theaters with about 8 Banshees each on three different levels. So 72 people ride at a time. But loading is a process. I took some GoPro videos and pictures. I will post some soon. Oh and we are the proud owners of a baby Banshee. We went to Mk yesterday and got to see the new show Happily Ever After. It is a good show but with all the new projections you have to be in front of the castle to enjoy everything. The crowd was insane to put it mildly. I will give a better report in person. We made it home tonight (Sunday) around 8 pm. My camper is ready at the dealer in Louisiana so I have to go get it this week before packing and heading to the campgrounds.

Sorry, I'm a fireman. I'll instinctively be helping with the blaze that is sure to follow.

I'll put Randy or Jim on it.

It's okay Michael we won't hold your being a Hose Head against you. But you may have a hard time keeping your record of never losing a foundation in this incident we'll most likely have to classify it as a vehicle fire on the Arson report. Good to put Jim or Randy on camera duty the rest of us are hoping to see what sort of moves you can bust

You mention the "foundation" thing. Funny, at the fire academy in Jackson there is a wall which displays the various patches from FD across the state. One of them (I'll leave out which town) had the slogan "#1 Slab Savers".

Gotta be good at something I guess.

Well, I tried to get the grass cut today. Yard is a wet mess from the 3" we got Saturday. Got lots more coming.

Wouldn't you know it, I broke a belt on the mower half way through it. New belt won't arrive until Wednesday and I gotta work, so the yard gonna be knee deep by the time we get back.

I'm just full of screw ups this week

Here's this week's forgot cast for LA (Lower Alabama)

Dude, let's hope it holds....

I'm streaming my favorite Gulf Shores/beach radio station "Sunny 105" this morning. They just played on of my favorites: Steely Dan's "My Old School" from 1973. Awesome! :worship::worship:

Here is the webbie. Use the Listen Live link. They have local weather every 20 minutes (10/30/50 past the hour). The morning syndicated show is done at 10am and then it's music.

It gets me in the mood.... :music:

Sorry about the belt Micheal, put your house sitter on it. With a handle like mach 1 (match 1) it shouldn't talk her long to cut the yard!

And the trees, the fence, the house...
No thanks, I'll take my chances with the knee deep grass.

DW has been busy with the vinyl machine. She felt the girl's beach chairs needed their initials.

And she made me a shirt

She also got my beach cup fixed up

Just dropped truck off for a detail job. I also went ahead and filled the truck and auxillary fuel tank since fuel here is cheaper than the coast.

It was $2.199 yesterday at the Shell just over the Intracoastal Canal bridge on Hwy 59. And $1.989 here at home when I got back. Bama Ed

Oh... Just leave the truck with the DW and the Vinyl Machine. I am sure the truck will be "Detailed" in no time at all! :lmao:

Is that for real gas or the fuel oil I have to run in my truck?

Either way, good price.
