Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

I'm confused - is Tuvalu for standard view resort stays, lagoon or theme park view, or is it DVC?
Tuvalu is part of the regular Polynesian Village Resort and not a DVC longhouse with studios. It has all three view types: standard, lagoon, and theme park. Standard faces inward towards Fiji. The part on the lagoon is a mix based on the floor and location.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but is there a reason the Oasis pool is not on the map of the Poly Disney just sent me for my upcoming trip?!

Yeah, Disney uses an old Poly map in some things I've seen. It's right in MDE, but not on the resort map they send you when you get the online check-in room ready text. It's the map they were using when the Oasis Pool was under construction that just shows it as a green area. It's getting pretty old at this point! :rotfl:

We are staying at the Poly in a little over 2 months and are very excited! This will be the first trip for our 2 year old. I was wondering if the pool has life jackets small enough for a 2 year old or if we should bring ours from home? I was also hoping someone could point me in the right direction as far as where to lok to learn about monorail and ferry operating hours? Thanks!

For our 2 year old - who is pretty tall/solid - doesn't fit so well in the smallest size they have available. It kind of works, but it's pretty much too big to be practical. I would recommend you take one from home that you know fits well.

Monorail hours tend to change week to week, but I'd bookmark this link to the current Times Guide: http://www.orlandoparksnews.com/p/weekly-walt-disney-world-times-guides.html

But make sure to grab a Times Guide when you're there, that will have the current hours (the Times Guide changes weekly).

Random observation, the monorail hours have been really great lately!

Here are the pics.

Ill be honest that is horrible for $40. Looks like there are literally only 2 of the sticky wings on that one plate and most of the other plate is noodles. A one person Ohana meal is that price and you could eat 20 wings if you wanted.

My family and I are headed to the Poly for our first stay there. Our usual "home" is WL, but we wanted to branch out a bit and try our other favorite resort. We booked a standard room, but I am unsure what this entails because from what I have read, it seems there are varied types of standard rooms. I have no idea what we have! Any way I can tell? I am definitely missing something.

My DH wanted to request Samoa, looks like that is a popular request lol :)

Samoa is one of the most popular building requests. If you can't get it, let me put in a good word for Niue. It is the smallest longhouse right next to Samoa. It is closer to GCH and every room has a good view. We LOVED staying there!

It's been fun reading all of the great information here - we are going to the Poly in 9 days (!!) and I have a question you pros could help me with.

I'm currently training for a marathon and need to get at least a few runs in while on our trip. I understand that the poly does not have an athletic room. Do you think that there is enough room for me to run outside in the resort area? I'd get up super early to avoid the heat and crowds.

Thanks!

Your trip is close, fun!

Poly does have a gym, it shares a facility with the GF next door. It's a short walk over, a nice warm up actually. Your MagicBand will open the door. It's in the small, seperate building just past the Wedding Pavilion but before you get to the GF DVC building. The Senses Spa is in the same building.

I run outside on the path between the TTC/Poly/GF. Nice and flat, good scenery - it's a wonderful morning run! Usually there are quite a few early morning runners out, in my experience. I'll see if I can look up my running history on my watch to let you know the distance.

There are "New Balance" signs in a few spots that show an actual trail, but I will just wind my way around both GF and Poly and make my own path.

Hope that helps!

We went last year and they had plenty of life vests that fit our almost 3 year old. She was 40" tall and around 38# at the time. We never had an issue finding one that fit her right.

Thank you!! Glad to hear I'm not crazy. I was so confused!

Your questions have been answered, but I wanted to say I hope you have a great trip! :wizard:

How exciting! Have a great trip :yay:.

i just made reservations this morning to rent a cabana all day, we also have reservations at 1900 Park Fare for breakfast at 9:00. My question is will they hold our reservation until we get back, the cast member said to check in 15 minutes before 10:00. I gave my credit card I don't want them to give our cabana away if we're not there at 10 am

While I can't say this for sure as I haven't done it at Poly, I doubt they'd give it away. We rented a cabana at GF back in April and didn't arrive until a good 2 hours after the 'start' time. Had no issues at all.

Parks and rec staff that run the cabanas aren't sitting there trying to rent them out for no shows, in my experience. They already have your money. :-)

No problem on the pics, see more below. Yes, there are USB ports and outlets under the TV now. There are also some on the night stand between the beds too. Tonight for evening offerings they had some type of meatball appetizer and pulled pork. I liked the sweet pulled pork better than the somewhat spicy, at least to me, meatballs. We are heading to AK tonight for EMH, fingers crossed we can get in Pandora! My DD and I take it easy while on vacation, no early mornings and we just go with what sounds good, if I can I will take pictures of whatever you want, no problem.
I hate that they are taking out ceiling fan :sad2: we don't like AC too cold, usually room temp is at 70 and with ceiling fan it's quite pleasant for us. Glad they are replacing desk outlets. Our last stay half of them didn't work, pretty worn. Dresser looks smaller?

I was so happy to see that the monorail hours are finally back to normal! Fingers crossed that if stays this way!!:yay:

Hopefully someone else can chime in about the life jackets, but I can help with the monorail/ferry information. I would suggest you ask for a time schedule when you check in because I know that last year there were some times that the resort monorail didn't run until the time that the Magic Kingdom closed. But, there will always be a way back to the resort.

We were there when our daughter was 3 and she's very tiny (20ish lbs then) They have a wide range of vests. And the smallest fit her ok. I wouldn't let her out of arms length though. If she got in the water by herself the vest would pop up around her ears because the vest just wasn't snug and the arm holes were big. Sometimes finding one that fit her was a bit of a hunt. If there wasn't one by the main pool there would be one by the splash area. I packed a small vest from home that fit her but we usually just used the ones at the pool.

Thank you so much for the helpful answers! She just turned 2 and is only 26lbs so maybe we will bring ours just to be safe. Trying to pack for a family of 4 with 2 check in bags, so luggage space is precious. :)

I'm pretty sure that's the kid's size which is only $20. I've seen pics and video of the adult portion and it is a lot more than that.

So I just read on Tikiman Pages that the Poly has motion controlled AC, and that they're removing the ceiling fans from the rooms. I'm kind of panicking... we are going for 7 nights in August, and I have an infant. Hot rooms are dangerous sleeping environments for babies. Is it stifling hot in those rooms at night? Should we look at switching resorts? Am I overreacting? Thanks.

I think many of the resorts have these now. I find them extremely annoying as they do seem to turn themselves off during the night. Check out this thread on how to override: https://www.disboards.com/threads/motion-sensor-thermostats.3608157/

First floor update in Hawaii......I was told they are securing the TV to the wall, removing cabinet doors in front of mini refrigerators, removing the ceiling fans and installing a large round light, and making the first floor look like the third floor. On the third floor the tv is on the wall, there is no ceiling fan but a large round light, and the refrigerator does not have a door on it. Below are pics of our room. Still having fun and locpvingbthe Poly!

did they update the mattresses? I absolutely love the Poly and it's generally our go to resort but after a short stay at GF and CR I think their beds are WAY better and I'd love the Poly to have something similar. We stayed in Hawaii in February and I would say the beds weren't terrible but they're not the best either for a deluxe. We stayed at the contemporary last month for a weekend and their beds are definately up there with the GF.
