Pop Century Room Renovations

I really like the bathroom, both parts of it. And BLUE walls look so spa like ... wish they brought that out in the room.

But why :confused3 would you video all that and show details ........ and not fold down the bed and show us that?

I was thinking the same thing....move your stuff off the table and open the bed!!!!

I also love the bathroom area. I'm sooooooo happy they put the pocket door on there instead of the traditional door. I'm sure the bathroom feels much bigger now. That was my biggest complaint with the rooms at Pop every time we stayed there. I'm surprised they didn't put pocket doors on the bathrooms in the suites at AoA since they *did* put a pocket door between the vanity area and the living space in the suites. But it doesn't bother me as much there since I use the master bathroom. :)

And why is it shot vertically smh

:rotfl2::rotfl2:It was the first thing I thought and was going to post that ....

The bathroom is really a huge plus now and honestly nicer than the moderates as far as I'm concerned. They don't have big shower/toilet areas either. And having the murphy a queen and decorations showing with murphy left open (less laminate that way too), I can probably overlook what I hate to get that bathroom and bed. Of course, the price will be the final indicator but hopefully that won't change until 2019 unless they do a mid-year adjustment.

Are you saying that black knob on outside by rod will pull out towards mirror for more hanging space?
That is exactly what I'm saying... yep!

Yep, that's exactly what I'm saying. It extends about a foot (but I did not bring my tape measure... so don't hold me to that!)

I am really excited about the storage in the bathroom and vanity area. I travel by myself, but I take up any and all available vanity space. I already bring a small collapsible bin to keep my junk corralled and I think it will fit perfect in the cubbie under the sink. I am booked for POR for first week of July but I am really tempted to switch to Pop and request a refurbed room. I really like these new rooms but have always enjoyed Pop. If I don't switch for July, I will definitely book Pop for Halloween. Now if Disney can just get the AP discounts back working on the website!

I have been following along and really appreciate all of the pics and the link to the video. The new design is growing on me. I especially like the bathroom. My biggest concern is what it's going to cost. We just recently discovered how great POP is, and I don't want to go back to All Stars. We are not hotel snobs but I was really disappointed in ASMu after staying at POP. I just love the vibe of POP! And I feel like we got much better service and an overall better resort experience there. I hope we can still afford it next time we go back!

The YC rooms that are being refurbished also have some shower only non-accessible rooms. Since it isn't complete, can't say whether it will become a booking option or not.

I will say the sliding glass shower doors are a bit of an odd choice. Maybe shower curtains were being taken home as "souvenirs" along with the pillows and bed runners. But to a pp's point, bathing kids in that tub set up is incredibly difficult.
I agree. Bathing kids will be very annoying. But even without kids, getting in and out of the tub and have your feet accidentally brush against the metal door tracks will also be awful. And the tracks must be kept clean of hair, dirt, garbage! Not to mention the doors themselves must be scrubbed clean on both sides! Shower curtains, you can just throw them in the wash. I can understand all the other changes of the new rooms even if I might not like them for my family -- the bigger beds, the hard floor, the multiple cubbyhole space, the coffee maker, the space under the beds. But the shower doors does nothing. It doesn't provide more space or make things easier to clean. I have stayed at 7 different Disney resorts, from value to deluxe, and nobody has shower doors! NOBODY!!! Do the Pop Century designers really think they are the first ones to consider shower doors because the other resorts' designers just couldn't think of it?

I don't believe they are using shower doors because people steal curtains. Who the heck wants a hotel shower curtain? What do you do with an extra shower curtain? And if you are going to steal, why not steal the new coffee maker? That's far more useful and is worth more. Or the artwork on the wall, which is worth even more. or the pillows or bedsheets or lightbulbs or that panel with 3 Mickeys on it!

Last fall I was at Pop. I bathed my baby by sitting on the edge of the tub while watching the baby in the tub. The tub has a wide, smooth edge, very nice for sitting, and the room doesn't have a stool I can use to sit next to the tub. Now I can't do that anymore, plus there's the shower door blocking half the access to the tub! Ugh! And when I get the baby in or out, I must lift him extra high so that his legs don't drag across the metal tracks. Ugh!

Maybe I can bathe the baby in the sink...? But the thing is only supported on one side. A 30 pound baby might make it fall off the wall. Why is the sink sticking out like that? What if a 5 year old tries to do pull ups with it? Or a tired/sleepy tall heavyset grownup leans against it, not thinking? How much weight can the sink withstand? Hm. My husband is asleep right now. I will ask him tomorrow. (He is a plumber.)

Later edit: Asked husband. Says wall mount sink is perfectly secure even if a kid hangs on it or big guy leans on it; it won't fall off. But baby might be too big to fit in the sink. Baby will be 21 months old, average size.... I think I will make him fit! The sink looks big!

There is no curtain rod... possibly over the box that covers the top of the sliding door, definitely over the connecting room door, I don't think it'd work over the shower.

The rod in the closet actually extends outside of the closet - it sticks out like a hook, but you can pull it out - it telescopes. Gives more hanging space to everyone so concerned about hanging things.

Yea!!!!! That was my main concern about the room.

To me, those 2 shelves in the dresser aren't really convenient for putting clothing on. I see them being a space for storing things that don't need to be in a safe, but you don't want laying out. They're just thin, deep cubbies with a door. The cubbies in the bathroom are awesome -- they provide a dozen places for storing things, but for *me* they don't pwrovide the type of storage space our family likes to use in a hotel room.
They're the same depth, width, and height of the corresponding drawers. Got it that they're not for you, but again, rolled clothing with a roller end facing out will work on those shelves, when guests need that storage space.

I agree with this! I find the shower door an odd choice, as far as maintaining it. Our house originally had this kind of shower door when we moved in and it was hard to keep clean. We didn't have kids at the time yet, but my mom warned me that bathing kids in such a tub would be really hard. We hadn't been in the house very long before we pulled out the shower door, repaired the tile, and put in a shower curtain. So much easier!

Personally I don't have a preference about the shower. My kids are older and I don't have to clean the thing!
However, it wouldn't surprise me if these doors get replaced with curtains before too long. All kinds of debris will collect in the tracks and the rollers at the top could roll less smoothly with time.

Aww. Sorry.

I don't know why they have that metal piece along the bottom of the shower doors. The actual track is on top. The whole purpose of the top track is so that you don't have a track on the bottom. But apparently here there is something. Maybe it's a lip to keep the water from splashing out? Not very convenient with babies.

Great video, thanks for passing along.

So right now 90's is completed and available to book? If so I would make that my only request. I really am starting to like this new design.

I think it's a matter of having to reach IN for stuff. It's deep for a cubby, and low. A drawer you reach down, and can see everything. You don't have to pull a few things out to get one item. Seems with the shelves you will. It's not a deal breaker, but not as convenient as a drawer.

Yes, those shelves will be great for you and a few other people. My point is that the vast majority of people do not typically roll their clothing for storage and probably wouldn't think of doing that on those shelves. Therefore, the shelves are going to be wasted space for them when they could have *easily* been useful drawers that everyone would know how to use. If people prefer to roll and stack their clothing on shelves, there's plenty of space to do that in the bathroom.

And before you start to tout the benefits of rolling clothing, I already do it. I don't find it any easier or better than folding it but about a year ago I was on an organizational kick and rolled everything in all of my dresser drawers at home (all 12 of them) as well as the shelves in my walk-in closet -- it took me the better part of an afternoon to do it. I find my clothing is actually more wrinkled by rolling it and I can't fit any more in the drawers than I did when folding it. When pulling things from a shelf, I often have to rearrange a good part of the pile if I'm taking something from the bottom. My project for this summer is to unroll everything and just go back to traditional folding. Most of the other girls in my book club who jumped on the rolling bandwagon with me have already returned to folding. So while it works great for some people, it's not for everyone...and it's certainly not SOP for most people. That's all I'm trying to point out. I'm glad you're excited about having shelves for all of your rolled clothing. I'm just as excited about that pocket door in the bathroom and -- while I know I'm in the minority -- I love the sliding shower doors as opposed to the shower curtain (but only because I don't have to clean them). I think it will help to keep water off the floor and it makes the bathroom feel bigger.

Exactly. Again, a differing opinion is being misconstrued as an absolute hatred and deal breaker when it's not. It's just a preference. Period.
