Pop Century Room Renovations

Construction projects for the gondola have already begun. It is happening.

Don't expect buses to continue running routes serviced by the gondola.

Disagree. I fully expect there to be buses running..

Wilderness Lodge: Boat and Bus
Contemporary: Monorail and Walkway
Polynesian: Monorail, Boat and Bus when monorail off
Grand Floridian: Monorail, Boat and Bus when monorail off

All of these have two options when one of the options may fall into a "safety" issue for guests. Many are afraid of heights or water. POP may not run buses with regularity all day long but during busier times they will have to. Between CBR, POP and AoA ... the numbers just can support it as the single option. If they force all folks on these, they will find guests (myself included) will be driving to the parks.

But there will be multiple gondola cars on the line, meaning the hourly capacity will be 2000-3000, depending on the type of car/system used.

2000-3000 per hour? Just POP, AoA and CBR can hold over 25,000+ guests before the CBR tower is built. If we divide by 4 parks but if guests are traveling to DHS or EPCOT ... you could be looking at 12,000 trying to get to those parks especially once DHS has new lands. That means it will take hours to get those folks transported? It is really how this will all get built, will AoA and POP have to share a station, then travel to CBR and change gondolas to go to Epcot or will there be four lovely wires up there with dedicated to and from to both parks? I'm not sitting here crunching numbers but at a glance, based on your capacity they will certainly have to keep the bus option.

I am really excited about the storage in the bathroom and vanity area. I travel by myself, but I take up any and all available vanity space. I already bring a small collapsible bin to keep my junk corralled and I think it will fit perfect in the cubbie under the sink. I am booked for POR for first week of July but I am really tempted to switch to Pop and request a refurbed room. I really like these new rooms but have always enjoyed Pop. If I don't switch for July, I will definitely book Pop for Halloween. Now if Disney can just get the AP discounts back working on the website!

If you (or anyone else) is considering booking Pop I would recommend checking availability ASAP. My SIL is booked in Sept and is trying to add 2 days to her reservation (and quite willing to pay rack rate) and there is zero availability.

I've also been trying to book for a family of 4 for a week in November and having challenges with that too.

I'm guessing with so many rooms closed for refurbishment plus many choosing to stay at Pop since only QS FD was offered to moderates, Pop rooms have filled up quickly.

You'll just have to wait and see.

I ask this, how many options are there for guests at GF to get to Epcot?

It's more about established precedent of providing more than one option of transportation.

Also the numbers at MK resorts combined (one park) don't touch the numbers that will be on the gondola routes (two parks). Probably 25% of the room capacity let alone the guests using just for park to park.

Agree, at this point it's too early for anyone to have any facts, so we wait.

Wal-Mart has the same ones for $3.88 set of 2. I just bought some yesterday to throw in our suitcases for next year. We just got back from pop a couple of weeks ago. The renovations look so exciting! Normally I take a shoe bag to hang up but I will just take some collapsible bins instead. Both big and half size. I like to stay organized even while on vacation.

Established precedent is that pop has only one mode of transportion to each destination. That is not intended to change.

The gondolas will have much higher capacity than the current bus operation.

I'll wait for Disney.

No difference to me, I would just be one more car in their parking lot, that didn't pay.

I looked but couldn't find my answer - are there any connecting rooms in the remodeled parts? I would like a new room, but need to have connecting for family.

Another reason I can't see them stopping the Pop buses is that technically the Gondolas will be located at AoA, not Pop.

The plans I've seen indicate the Gondola station will be between AoA & Pop Century so I believe it will service both resorts. I also read somewhere in a very long thread on another board that the Gondola system will move more people per hour than the buses currently do. I'm not sure I believe it, but that's what studies supposedly showed.

Yes. Several of the pictures I've seen from people staying in the rooms over the last few days have been in connecting rooms.

We were there a couple of weeks ago. I took a peek at the reno. Seemed to me the majority of the rooms on the bottom floor were connecting (that's all I could see).

Exactly. Unless the monorail is down. Monorail resort guests have no other option for transportation to Epcot.

Which is one of the reasons I don't stay in them, I hate having to rely on the monorail since even if it's not down the darn thing stops on the tracks every single time I ride it. The fact you have to switch at TTC also bugs me, I know it doesn't take that much time but it just bugs me. I don't stay in the value resorts that often but certainly won't be doing it at all at Pop and CBR if the gondolas are the only option. As far as I can see if you get on at the farthest point, you have to ride it to the next resort, it's not a direct path to the park.
