so we have some friends who shop at vintage/thrift stores a lot. These places carry some nice stuff that is not cheap. The other day she purchased a box of vintage Disney books (about 25 old story books) for their daughters. The box was wooden with a glass top so you can see the books. Many of the books seem like they were never opened. They got home and the girls opened up a few books. Falling out of each book was 4 park tickets and $400. What is a good way to find out if these tickets are still good. She told me they were dated 12/2010. We suspect they were gifted to some kids and the family just put them away. Spring cleaning happened and these were brought to the store. She paid $20 for the box of books.

There's a part of me that would want to go back to the store and see if they could track down the people that gave them that box.

I understand and get that possession is 9/10th's of the law, but if EACH book had 4 tickets and $400 in it, that's obviously something that was meant for someone.

If, after an attempt was made to find the donating owner of those books and seeing if they wanted those tickets and money back, and either nothing came of the search or contact was made and returning refused... THEN I would look into the validity of the tickets.

If they won't add to MDE ...

My niece checked old tickets by emailing Guest Relations and they looked each ticket up by number. Told her exactly what was left.

She called the store to inquire the previous owners. They could not help her. The lady there said it has been there for about 6 months.

If there's no names or anything in the books or on the box, and all ways are exhausted of trying to find the original owners (which it seems this is where it is) then I'd still feel some guilt, but I'd be looking to see if the tickets are valid.

This is just one of those rare instances of a "gold mine" found at a vintage/thrift store.

Like $400 x 25? And the same for tickets?
Yea unbelievable. Approximately 26 books. Each had 4 park tickets and $400. If my math is correct, it is 104 tickets and $10,400. She didn't want to tell the store what was found since they most likely claim it's theirs. I looked at one of the tickets and do not see an expiration date.

If Disney verifies the tickets are unused and valid, I think I'd put them in a safe deposit box and pull them when you need them, lol. That $10,400 is a great start on a DVC listing, and the 104 tickets... well, who needs AP's, lol.

The store would definitely keep it. She won the thrift store lottery and she shouldn't feel bad about it at all.

Just be careful as the tickets are technically non transferable.

$400 and park tickets is an impressive find, though!

Edit - what, what? $400 and park tickets IN EACH?!!?

yes each book. they are putting the cash into savings accts for the 2 girls. She is going to set me up to renew my 3 annual passes and renew hers as long as they are valid.

Technically tickets are not transferable after initial use or in the case of MDE after being assigned. Actually now that I think about it, you might even be able to transfer MDE tickets if they are not used. Can't remember exactly but there is a button to reassign tickets......

Until they are used they are not assigned to anyone. Otherwise you'd never be able to give anyone the gift of a ticket since you bought them and then gave them to someone else.

This is true! I'd assumed from the OP that they'd be partially used tickets, as surely nobody would be crazy enough to donate unused tickets...

...but apparently there's a breed of crazy that also sends over $10k to a thrift store!

I just can't believe that the person who gifted that wouldn't have checked in at some point and been like, "How are you enjoying your lifetimes of Disney tickets and thousands of dollars?"

So they called Disney to check the tickets. They are each one day park hopper tickets. They didn't check all of them, just a few.
