Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

I'm starting to get nervous about my upcoming trip. I've never stayed at the Poly before but I feel like I'm seeing tons of negative reviews lately. I'm not expecting Four Seasons level of quality but seeing reviews about dirty sheets, flooding showers, dirty elevators with gross stuff all over certainly doesn't sound appealing. Are these just overly critical people or am I really only paying for the monorail access to stay here and need to expect that things may be subpar around the resort?

I've stayed at Poly quite a bit this year and have not experienced any of the negative experiences you mentioned. Not saying stuff like that doesn't happen or aren't legitimate concerns, but I tend to think those are more representative of isolated events than anything else. Our stays have been fantastic frankly, which is why we keep coming back.

I do agree with the PP - Disney Deluxe should not be confused with Four Seasons-type luxury, generally speaking.

Sometimes when I read these reviews I think it's because people go in with unrealistic expectations which I definitely don't have. I'm hoping these reviews are mainly because of that.

In general, disappointed and unhappy people are far more likely to vent than satisfied people are to praise. That being said, in general the theme of the Parks in the Iger era is "less for more", so I hope Disney monitors threads like these and takes them seriously. Im about to shell out more for a 2 night stay at the Poly than Im going to spend for a 12 night off site luxury house rental next summer .... so while Im not expecting the same level of service and amenities as I get when traveling to Vegas, the room darnn well better be clean and in good repair.

I'll see what happens for my next request which will be by room number.

This is just my opinion, but if you are going to request a specific room, I'd also put one or two things about that room in the request as well (i.e., ground floor, close to elevator, etc). If you request just the room number and that room is not available, the room assigner will not know why you wanted that specific room. If you have other requests noted, the room assigner will (hopefully) be able to find a room comparable to your room choice should that particular room not be available.

We just paid our balance!!! I've been off the phone for ten minutes and I'm still giggling!!! party:

Congrats! It's always a great feeling to be PIF! :cool1::banana::bounce:

Very interesting! I am in Big Pine Key and checked-in 10/21.

I will say our housekeeper has been amazing. I have come back from the parks and received multiple towel designs on the beds, items like our Mickey pumpkins put out where we rest, and generous amounts of towels and toiletries. I have not had this in any resort or building I have recently stayed in. She even wrote us a note because she liked the tip envelope!

Sounds like you're having a great time :goodvibes.

The chocolates are the best part!!! I’d be happy if they just threw some chocolates under the door as my ‘turn down service!’ lol :rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl2:

I agree!

That is one of the reasons I plan to call instead of faxing or emailing. With a personal call I can explain exactly why I want the specific room :).

I was there last week and didn't have any negative experiences. I think you'll find the things people have been complaining about anywhere at some point. Give it a chance and see for yourself! We loved it and would go back in a heartbeat. But do keep in mind as the PPs said, it is not a luxury hotel by any means.

I know this is random but can someone who has current pictures of the Kona breakfast menu share some with me? We’re trying to decide whether or not to keep our adr and the food currently listed in the Disney site isn’t too appealing to our group that prefers more tranditional breakfast. I’m wondering if they also have some more traditional breakfast options listed or if the menu listed on the Disney website is the most accurate. Thanks!

We have also never had any experiences like those described. Worst case, if the resort does not meet expectations ask to be moved, but I wouldn't rebook because you've read some bad reviews. Thousands of people go through all of the resorts. People who have nothing to complain about are a lot less likely to post than someone who is dissatisfied.

Someone recently posted this information. You can find it here. Post #12218. Unfortunately it is very tiny and the photos don't enlarge--perhaps ask @Trishadano to share the full size.

Is there anyway you can repost the breakfast menu or email to me in a higher resolution? I can’t read this one and am curious to see the breakfast menu as we decide whether or not to keep our Kona Breakfast.
I'll try!

It was lunch time so my menus were for that, so here is disneys menu.

I don't know if you saw my post a few weeks ago when we got room service for breakfast?

The coffee was so good! Tonga toast and macadamia pancakes were a hit too.

It's the same food so if you like those they are a consistent hit with most.

Just checked in last night. I've stayed @ Poly several times over the last 15 years. The resort public areas are just as nice as ever. There are some worn looking furniture pieces & dust here & there but generally quite clean. The public bathrooms have been very clean so far. The room is another issue altogether. We spent 2 hours cleaning our dirty room last night. 80+ Clorox wipes to get the food & not sure what else off furniture, floor, walls etc. 1/2 bottle of bleach spray to clean the filthy bathroom. Problem is "clean" is subjective...but at least the sheets are clean! On the upside our room is super clean now & except for the overly stained carpet--it seems great!

Good luck! I hope you get just the room what you want :goodvibes.

Sorry about the not-so-clean room and although you shouldn't have had to clean it, I'm glad you were able to get things wiped down/cleaned to your satisfaction! Hope you have a great time and enjoy the Poly :).

Help!

I can upgrade (if it is an upgrade) my Standard View room to a Deluxe Studio Standard View in the villas instead of the regular resort.

Are the Villas better?

Well, studios have two queen size beds, villas have a queen size bed and a pull out sofa. Studios have one bathroom, villas have one full bath and a second sink/shower combo. Villas have a kitchenette, studios do not. All villas have balconies, while studios on the second floor do not.

Sorry my post is confusing.

I went into the Poly Villas and Bungalows and there's a room called Deluxe Studio - Standard View that pops up wihen I click into the Poly Villas and bungalows. Is that part of the Villas? I see you mentioned the studios, is that the same thing?

Oh, sorry, probably not. I was comparing the Standard studios with the DVC studio villas.
