I love credit cards so much!

Does she already have any Chase cards? If so, you might call to see if they can re-allocate some of the credit limit from an existing card to the new card. This has happened to me on several occasions.
She has one Chase card, limit is $2200 LOL, I'm sure it's income, she is a student and only works part time (makes great part time money, but not Sapphire level money I'm sure).

Call the automated status line - what does it say?

I thought I dialed the automated status line but it was the recon. line - so I went ahead and talked to the rep and she moved credit around and approved me for the Chase Freedom, but said the Marriott application was not in their system and I should reapply. I wonder why that is, as I immediately received a message stating they are reviewing the application. That was the card I really wanted due to the spg points, but now i"m wondering if I should just go for a second spg card - but I do have SPG business and the Marriott card would allow me one free night per year.

What would you guys do?

Did you get an email from Chase about the Marriott card? When I received that message on Fri, I had received an email almost immediately from Chase so that helped me know that my application had gone through. I then called the recon line since I was pretty sure I had to move credit around since I had to in Sept for SW Premier. Why they gave me the ridiculous amount they did in the first place is perplexing.

Congrats on getting the freedom. I'd check the status line to see if they list 2 applications or just one...800-432-3117 and follow the prompts. If both applications registered it will list each one.

IF it only lists one application then I'd say the Marriott App didn't go through. This is your last chance to get another Chase 5/24 card (maybe ever?). I would still try for Marriott by applying in a separate browser in incognito mode. The SPG card will be there and available to you later...today is the last day you can try to get the Marriott if you're truly now at 5/24...Good Luck.

I'm very miffed at eBags' new policy of not combining gift cards purchased through Amex and Chase Pay promos. I griped about this last week when they stonewalled me on gift cards purchased using Amex Offers, and I've seen several more DPs of people buying $20 gift cards through the Chase Pay promo that eBags won't combine.

Literally, the customer service reps will tell you they cannot combine gift cards purchased with an Amex or through Chase Pay. It's not that they cannot, per management they won't.

Yep, I've seen this popping up on blogger's sites within the past 24 hours. Just a few months ago I was able to combine eBags gift cards, so I'm sorry to see that go.

I bought a $20 printable egift card with my Freedom on one transaction. Separately, I bought a $40 item with DH's CFU and applied the $20 gift card to that order. If all goes well I'll get the 2000UR for my gift card purchase, and DH will get 2000UR for using his CFU, and my purchase will be free. The charges are pending so I won't know for a while if it works or not. While it's not combining gift cards, it's the best option (if it works!) in the current environment.

Yes, I did get the email for both Freedom and Marriott but when I called the recon line she said no Marriott application came through. She moved credit around and I asked her to clear more on one card for when I reapply for the Marriott.

More than one application it says. Approved for one, the other is pending. I guess they got my second attempt for the Marriott card.

I guess re-allocating the credit limit won't work. I do think that if you contribute anything to her education, then she can count that as income. I'll be curious to see what the letter from Chase says, as I have several kids in your daughter's position.

Yeah I’ve seen the suggestion to buy a gift card for the offer amount on one card, then use that gift card and another card with the offer to pay the balance for at least the minimum amount.

Related to the ebags conversation, does anyone have a passport holder? One of my kids is constantly losing things (mostly not her passport, thankfully, although she did once leave it in a hotel room, causing several hours of disruption). I'm thinking a passport holder might be helpful in keeping track of it. On the other hand, it might also be one of those things that sounds good but doesn't actually work well. Anyone use one?

im pretty sure ur gonna have to reallocate your cl again... call again! best of luck! glad u got your freedom card! :]

this. @elgerber Your DD is still part of the household if your covering for her. She should be able to apply with a household income right?
I did apply for the CSP with a 20k income. I got approved for the minimalist amount of 5k. I do think my relations with Chase has been pretty good though, i opened a bank account close to 8-9 years ago, had the Freedom for 7 years... They gave me CSP, CSR so far.

If this is the case, is there anything we can do at this point?

apply with a higher income next time. i do wonder how they would check... like, my mom has no income but my dad does... so household income right? haha.
Have you called Recon and asked? perhaps say you entered the wrong amount?

No, I haven't recon yet, can we do that before we get the denial letter?
Not going to apply for anything else right now, not worth dinging her any further because I want points LOL.

Yes you can definitely call before you get the letter. I would just be up-front and say you calculated income incorrectly, not including money contributed by parents for education expenses. But others might know if that would work or not.

you can recon before/after denial letter but the big problem with that is.... can you wait 30 days? XD

edit: speaking of getting ding, it isnt much. Just do be like the pros and apply a card every month... :P a few pulls a year is considered healthy.

Ha, nope, need the card before 30 days.

Nah, not going to keep applying for her, I don't want her to have to keep up with a ton of cards yet, she can do that later when she wants rewards LOL.

Those funds are considered a gift to the student, not income.
