Effective 2/25/2018, you need at least 75 direct points to qualify for Membership Extras

Wow. This is really disappointing as we are in the ROFR phase of a 150 pt contract and planned on purchasing our 25 pt add on as soon as we closed. Had we even thought this would have been the case we would have considered a 100 pt contract and bought 75 direct from Disney. I guess we will be paying a lot more for the annual passes, etc, etc. so upset right now....

No more than you were already paying for APs before, plus you’ll still be saving tons on your accommodation! Not all bad. :teeth:

Well... Disney just screwed us again. If anyone is looking for 50pts AKV Feb UY there may be some available.

Disney is not licensed to do contracts by mail in the states of West Virginia and Alaska for any resort other than Aulani, Copper Creek, and Poly.

Our only 50pt option would be Aulani but now we’re looking at more money.

Debating now on whether the perks still outweigh the price. Let me know your thoughts.

Unless you love Hawaii, I would just hold off on the whole thing. You're throwing money at something you may or may not make a lot of use at just to get AP discounts. You might as well just move to Florida to get the Gold Pass discount at that rate.

I agree there. Nobody should buy into DVC just for the perks. Those can go away for everybody at any time. If you are still getting a good price via resale, you're still getting a good thing overall.

Have a parent in another state “buy” them for you and put you on the deed.

Yeah... I'm gonna call my realtor and get a sign in the yard. It's way too damn cold here anyway.

I am not just buying in for the perks. We have been going to Disney for over 20 years, with 2 children and friends, etc. Now that we are done with college and all the expenses of raising children we decided to do this for ourselves. We were not buying APs before because we were not always going in the timeframes where it made sense to have APs. This was just something we thought we would take advantage of since it would have been available to us with the 25 point add on. Now that will not be the case and we will still continue to vacation to Disney and elsewhere as we always have. Just not as many times a year as we may have anticipated it to be at Disney. Shorter stays bigger accomodations will be the trade off.

I think the “$260 savings” on annual passes might not be a relevant metric for a lot of buyers anyways.

How many purchasers were already shelling out $800+ for platinum APs before they bought? I would bet not many, certainly not a majority. It’s just another way Disney manages to make you spend more with DVC - have to buy the passes and go more often because it’s a “good deal” :earboy2:

Always true, but the gold AP is cheaper than two park hoppers covering 2 trips within a year (and you get the photos and don't have to count days used, etc.). That was my plan until we bought and I discovered the gold pass.

I was one of them. I am raising my kids wrong. They view a summer trip to Disney as a given, not a treat.

Well, the Guide called back and said that nothing is available now. He said he can see all the points sitting there but can’t get them. He said there is nothing available at all at the moment (any UY any resort). He said that he has put me on the waitlist and will call when the dust settles. Whatever that means. I think this announcement has broken their system with all the calls and requests today.

I got the exact same response. He can see the points but can't get them, put me on the list. Sigh.

Glad I’m not the only one. Hopefully it works out. If not I think I’m ok being a second class citizen and will just get the rest of points resale. But I wish I would have known when I started, I would have just bought 300 resale instead of having the add on strategy.

I had thought that the 3 year guarantee on benefits stated when you purchase points direct meant that Disney would be offering benefits for at least 3 years as long as they include this provision in the contract. I guess that it could be interpreted to mean that benefits could end after the contract reached the 3 year mark, even if Disney continued benefits for others, either because their 3 year period had not ended, or they were "preferred" owners. I'd like to see how that goes over if it were ever implemented.
