Disney Resorts to start charging parking fees....

I will never be ceased to be amazed by the apologists.....Disney can literally charge you for anything and raise prices to the moon, and there is an army of folks that will come on these boards and defend it.....this is absolutely ridiculous, but rest assured someone stayed in a hotel last week that charged for parking, so its perfectly fine for Disney to do it

Agree...like I said earlier, as a DVC member, it won't affect me. But, I think Disney needs to do away with some of the ridiculous discounts they do like Free Dining before they begin fee-ing everyone to death. I've complained about paying for parking at Universal on top of the room rate, and Disney doing it doesn't change my opinion.

Sure, you have to pay in cities to park...because there is limited parking. Disney doesn't have that problem, folks. Just because you're used to HAVING to pay for parking, doesn't make it right or acceptable.

Disney parking fees are higher than UO hotel parking fees

Now I get hit at both hotel stays

Probably cheaper for me to fly instead of driving
Flight costs will be cheaper in my budget
18 nights of hotel parking will cost more than my flights
Yep. Same for me.

I am a DVC member as well....but I feel terrible for the working families out there that now have to account for another fee.....never mind that a family of 4 now costs $2,000 just to get in the parks before you ever buy a plane ticket or book a resort

OK, I get it, must pay for parking now. Other resorts charge for parking and they are just bringing WDW resorts to industry standards, blah, blah, blah...

The one thing that absolutely infuriates me is that a non-guest can get free "day guest" parking. If they were to charge a per-hour parking fee to day guests (like other hotels do), I would be fine paying to park my car overnight at the resort we are staying.

But, non-WDW guests have been coming to park at the resorts to avoid park parking fees, and non-resort guests have been parking at the monorail/Epcot resorts to "dine" and "shop," to avoid busing. I am going to be pissed if they get free parking and I don't, or if they are using a spot that I could be parking in.

God Bless Disney...."Members will not be charged BEYOND WHAT THEY ARE ALREADY CHARGED in their annual dues"......There Disney, I fixed it for you!!!

I feel similarly. There are a lot of people who drive (long distances!) to Disney to save on airfare. This will be a huge added expense for a family staying on-site for a week.

I always hated hotels who add resort and parking fees (although I guess you can argue instead of increasing prices across the board, this would just target people who are actually using the parking), and always appreciated that Disney didn't do this.

Yup, day guests get free parking.

well technically it was never free as we pay maintenance dues every month....But I am sure Disney will act like they are giving us a "perk" ;)

We do pay for parking maintenance as part of dues, so I wouldn't call it a perk. But they also extended it to staying at non-DVC resorts, which I would consider a perk.

Edit - looks like non-DVC is points only.

haha of course, much like when they raised the price of AP's but included photopass for "free" (which by the way, I didn't complain over. I've found my battle flag after all these years)

I get it....but I haven't stayed at a non DVC resort in 20 years LOL

I don't fully understand what the big deal is. A week and a half ago when we started planning our WDW trip for this summer, I was surprised when I found out that, at the time, WDW resorts don't charge hotel guests for parking. We are DL veterans and I'm used to the now $22/night for DLR on site hotel parking, the $22/day rate to park in the Toy Story or Mickey & Friends parking lots/garages. And I'm used to how MOST of the off site hotels in the surrounding area charge for parking (usually ~ $11-$15/day) for their hotel guests.

There is not a space issue at WDW like there is at DLR. I understand charging for parking at DLR,

But then kiss off your plans of getting a reservation for Be Our Guest 180 days ahead of time.

You do not need a WDW hotel stay to book ADRs at 180 days.

I don’t understand why the cost is different between different tiers of resorts. It’s not like the deluxe resorts have “nicer” parking lots. In fact, I’d contend that parking at the deluxes is LESS convenient than at the values and mods because at the values and mods, you can often park very close to the room. Not so at the deluxe resorts after meandering through the lot and finding a place in the back row not occupied by the shopping/dining people (who will park for free).

$24/night for deluxe hotels!!! The pavement is exactly the same at all locations!!! And our recent stay at BC would have cost $168 for parking, c'mon, seriously?!?!?

If there was even a small justification such as if they built COVERED parking garages at all resorts where the sun isn't baking your car all day and it doesn't feel like you are being suffocated in an oven when you get into your car & vehicles are being protected from elements such as hail, I could see a small extra charge. But Disney did absolutely NOTHING to justify charging resort guests who are already paying a premium to stay on site. The more I think about this the angrier I get.

Saw this before ................ problem is Disney does not charge industry standard rates for what they offer so this isn't a valid comparison. Their rooms are anywhere from double to four times industry standard for the same exact room. None of their exteriors and amenities truly warrant that much. Most their extra amenities also involve extra fees and open to any offsite guest. If they want to drop the price of their deluxe to a comparable resort offsite, then add some dollars for the extra grass and bushes that is fine to add fees.

But they also extended it to staying at non-DVC resorts, which I would consider a perk.

The way I read that is you only park for free at non-DVC resorts *if* you use points to book those stays...which we all know is a dead loser.
