Here Now (First Week of May) - Some Thoughts

So this is our third trip the first week of May (3 years in a row) and this is the least crowded it's been between all 3 trips. My guess on that is that people who might have booked May decided to wait until after TSL opened this year. I'm not sure why else May would be lower than typical crowds when the rest of the year so far has been busier.

Yesterday was Bad Guest Behavior Day at Epcot (like Dapper Days but opposite). We had our popcorn bucket stolen out of the bottom of our stroller (it was out of sight under jackets so someone pawed through our stroller). Obviously not a big deal - we only leave things we won't be heartbroken or seriously inconvenienced if they disappear - but still annoying.

We saw a dad and two teenagers go running past everyone in line for Soarin at RD "to meet up with their party." At the end of the night we had asked for row B1 on Soarin, another family did as well and we were granted the request. When they led us in, a man from row 2 in front of my daughter continued to row 1 instead. We knew because she was first in line for row 1. This meant that the family behind us didn't fit and were looking around, confused. My DH told the CM what happened. She came over and asked the man which row he was supposed to be in. He admitted it was 2. She told him to go to 2 and he stared her down. So she backed down and helped the other family find a different row to sit in. I wish they wouldn't back down that way It just means he'll do it again (and no it wasn't a language barrier issue). I wish they could kick people off rides for that behavior.

We also had a family behind us in line for Mulan use their kids to cut in front of us. They slowly kept creeping up until they were in front of my daughters and then the dad joined them in line and Mom got out of line behind us to go sit with them in front of us. The kids were like 5. Nice.

None of it was anything trip ruining of course, just annoying and an opportunity to talk to kids about proper behavior. I do wish Disney would have a no tolerance policy like Six Flags. I don't see line jumpers there because they will toss you out of the park for it.

We've had good luck getting same day FPs for rides other than the most popular ones (7DNT and FEA). I have not been able to "roll" as people define it here (go right from one FP to the next) unless the next is something like Under the Sea. I have had really good luck with alternating an FP ride and then a show/non-FP activity and then an FP ride though. And we tend to do a lot of character meets so it works. We got 5 extra FPs on Sun at MK, 3 at DHS, and 3 at Epcot (TT twice and Illum).

Weather has been great and CMs have been awesome and really friendly. Only 4 more park days left.

You and me both!

Same thing happens to us at least once every trip!

Thanks for the account of your trip. We're leaving next Saturday the 12th, and hoping the crowds will remain on the lower side. As well as the temps!

Thanks for the update. We'll be arriving in a week so hoping the crowds stay that way (well, not the behavioral aspect of them!). Have a great time!

Thanks for the report! May crowds seem to be getting better each year as other months like February & October get busier. We arrive on Friday! When you say the weather is nice....how hot is it? Because my weather app is saying 90 which in the direct sun is going to melt my DH, lol. We live in the south but it hasn't been hot here yet!

Thank you for the report. We arrive on the 13th and hope to have the low crowds and good temps.

Bummer that people have to feel the need to steal-that's just awful!

Thanks. I thought of you at Epcot on Wed. DS5 decided that FEA is now his favorite Epcot ride - something no one saw coming and certainly won't last. He really wanted to go again so I set out to get him a FP (with his dad), Wed night. It took me half an hour of constant refreshing but I was finally able to get him one. Hooray!!!

Well, when I say nice, I'm mostly happy it's not raining and not humid. It's been around 85 each day but not humid and some days have been beezy. I'm not gonna lie, sitting in the sun waiting for the parade at MK today was pretty uncomfortable but I also found it uncomfortably cool in the pool yesterday morning. But I might be alone in that.

I don't know how people can steal. Especially from others and stupid stuff like a popcorn bucket, that is crazy.

I expect that we shouldn't leave clearly enticing things in the stroller. We had to explain to DS why he couldn't leave his lightsaber in the stroller. But a popcorn bucket? I totally thought that the yuck factor would be in our favor. I mean, it was a popcorn bucket in a stroller. Changes are very good some germy, snotty kid had their hands in there (my kids NOT excepted of course). Who would want to steal that and eat popcorn out of it? I least I can rule out my germophobe DS8 as a suspect.
.
I hope the low crowds continue for a couple more weeks. Really hoping it's less busy than it was in February!

It think it will. At least until Memorial Day weekend.

This is one of the nice things about refreshing for FP's. Not only can it allow you to ride a lot of rides without much wait but it also allows flexibility. Whether someone decides they really like a certain ride (like your DS with FEA or my wife with TSM) or you just decide that you feel like switching up parks that day, being able to play around with the app means being able to just go with the flow. Congrats on the FEA FP!

Seriously. I don't remember what movie this is from, but I always remember someone stopping a petty thief, saying that if you're going sell your soul, at least do it for something that's worth it. Why become one of those people for just a popcorn bucket from some kid's stroller?

Ugh that's so annoying. In truth, he could've just asked to ride in row 1 to begin with, and then nobody would be inconvenienced and the CM would've been able to accommodate his preferences without a mad scramble at the end. Unfortunately, there's just no time to argue with a guest and hold up the entire line, and hard-line policies are not so Disney (for better or worse). If you feel so inclined, do as the British do, and tut and murmur your mild disapproval to unleash a bit of social pressure. Ultimately, it's better that you didn't sweat the small stuff.

Thanks for the great trip report. Look forwarding to seeing how the rest of your time goes!

Thanks!! You're definitely not alone in that - I want it to be nice when I'm in the parks but HOT when I'm in the pool, haha. I think 80 degrees is too cold for swimming. ^-^

Every trip we run into some very rude people cutting lines, pushing past us to get a better view of the fireworks, etc. Fortunately the only thing I have had stolen was a cookie. The thief was a squirrel. We stood there laughing watching him eat as fast as he could! We left the cookie on the stroller so it was our fault ;).

It seems most people only look out for themselves but we had a positive experience last year. Definitely felt like Disney magic! We were in line for Stitch in HS. He is my son's favorite character and this was our only opportunity to meet him. His handler announced that Stitch would be going in soon and my ds started to get nervous he would miss seeing him. The family in front of us heard him fretting and told us to go ahead of them. We took some great pictures and ds was sooo happy! What a kind thing to do and totally unexpected!

Thanks for your report. We are leaving may 22nd and I can't wait. Hope your remaining days are filled with pixie dust.

We will be there in 10 days!! I hope crowds stay low but I’m preparing for higher crowds

Sounds great, we are heading down tomorrow, hope the low crowds continue the rest of the week!

I don't really get the line creepers, I get the ones that pretend to be meeting up with someone in the front (though I would never do it and hate that they do it), they are at least saving a bunch of time. But the ones that just creep slowly to try to get in front of like 1 family doesn't make sense to me and it happens to us every trip. I find we have to stand side by side and almost guard our spot or eventually someone will just stand next to us and as soon as the line moves they try to move ahead of us. How much time could they possibly save by doing this?
