4/16-6/29 Toy Story Mania Facts & Discussion - NEWS: Ride Open w/Same Day FP (6/19-29)

Well so it looks like the early reports of a full closure were correct. Kudos to those who believed them! I for one couldn't see Disney choosing to close it completely in such a barren park already. But obviously that was wrong.

This really stinks for us because we have full day planned at HS on June 18th. With a 6 year old going on his very first trip I was a little worried about him having enough to do other than Jedi Training. Now with TSMM closed that day I think it will be pretty rough. Hopefully he likes Star Tours......a lot8-).

I think for me this goes back to the whole question of is all the hassle worth it. With DVC we needed to have our dates lined out more than 7 months ago. With ADRs we had to know which parks what days 6 months ago. And of course our FP 60 day window has been open for weeks. When they first announced the later opening for TSL we attempted to move our trip back but with DVC it wasn't possible. So we left it accepting TSMM would at least be open. Yesterday I attempted to move our HS day back in our trip, but now only 40 days out that was pretty much impossible as well. Planning so much months in advance and then at the last minute Disney decides to change attraction availability, park hours, etc. Think we might need a Disney break after this one.

I hear you. We planned HS for evening of 6/16 and day of 6/18. Have too many other plans to switch to a later date. But will see if any day of Fastpasses become available or go last thing at night.

The attraction is going to be closed on both 6/16 and 6/18.

My concern would also be what will the wait times be for the other HS attractions during this time.

That too. The kids want to do the Jedi Training so we will do it and we have FPs for the older ones to do RnR and ToT. Maybe have to just hop somewhere else and only come back for F! since we have the breakfast package as a PPO.

Well, I was debating just nixing our HS morning anyways... I guess they just made that decision for me! That’s our week! TS and ST are literally the only things the kids are interested in anyways and we have both identical rides here at DL.

Thank you, yes I know. We're there until 6/24, so I was going to have to add a special trip just for Toy Story sometime after 6/18. If we were going to go to HS just for Toy Story Mania, it would be with a Fastpass or the last ride of the evening. Don't know if it will happen. Like my plans/Fastpasses for other parks too much.

I'm somewhat surprised too - while I can see how it's easier to fully close it for a bit, this means that for those days there will be ZERO things that kids under 40" can ride at Hollywood Studios. Yes, I know they have many shows, but zero rides that are all ages at a Disney park just seems insane to me, regardless of the fact that Toy Story Land opens right after.

I sent customer service an email about that fact last night, especially that it wasn't announced until 33 days out. I got a completely canned response that said my concerns would be passed along. Yep passed right along to a deleted folder:rolleyes:.

While I agree, Disney has the right to close any attraction at any time. The ride could have broken down any of those days as well without any notice before hand. At least at 33 days out is better than 1 day. If I was going to WDW that week I probably wouldn't waste my time at DHS but I know I would be back and also have an AP so that is different than many others.

Yeah you're absolutely right that they can close any ride, any time. Frankly to save on CMs I'm surprised they don't do it on a rotating basis all day long. I'm sure someone has suggested it in a cost-cutting meeting.

But seriously, even though I like the ride it wasn't a huge deal for me to miss it. But do feel bad for my nephew who I now realize can't even do ST. If we didn't have to book ADRs 6 months in advance or FPs at 60 days out, I would have likely changed this to another trip to AK to do FoP an extra time. But at this point that certainly isn't an option. I'm sure they knew all along that it would have to close at some point, but they haven't ever made an official announcement.......about any of it.

To be fair that's an autoresponder basically, to confirm they've received your email. I know people get upset here all the time about it but that's really common with big companies. Sort of a double edged sword, if they don't do it people complain, if they do, they complain. Better to err on the side of saying something rather than nothing.

It is really irritating. I mean, if they are going to basically force us into planning out our days 60 days out then they could at least do the same. The constant last minute (less than 60 days anyways) changing of hours and taking rides offline and off FP for a known existing project is frustrating when you can’t do much at that point to change your plans.
I am worried that the other parks are going to be picking up the slack from people like me who say forget it, we will scrap it and go to a different park. I hope the effect isn’t felt too much everywhere else.

Why is it not an option? You can try for other FPs and you may get lucky to get a FoP one. And you could probably change ADRs too if you need to do that

Yeah except that you would have to give up your existing FPs in order to try to get FoP, unless something has changed. And the odds of getting one (or overlapping ones) for 8 people. And the PPO ADR package for F! would be wasted. That's why it isn't really an option......

Actually this was after the auto-responder message yesterday. Normally at that point you either get a call or a more personalized email reply, but nope it was a completely canned response from a CM. I get that those are pretty much "industry standard", but again Disney was the Gold Standard in the past. I kind of abide by the rule when dealing with companies that I'm very happy to share when they do something well, so seems kind of fair to share when it seems poor.

Maybe I'm off base on thinking this all could have been communicated better a long time ago, but regardless I don't think Disney cares either way.

Oof that's sad, I'm sorry this happened to you. I agree that they probably knew they would do it at some point but not know when. I feel bad for anyone that is doing their once in a lifetime type trip and misses out on such a fun, family friendly ride.

Yeah I feel bad for my nephew who hasn't even been, but since the rest will be all new he will get over it:o. I do wish Disney would: 1. Communicate Better 2. Revamp the system so we aren't planning what we want to eat or ride a year in advance. I don't understand why the 1st one can't happen. The 2nd I know they have a financial incentive to secure the discretionary funds as early as possible, but it is definitely not consumer-friendly.
