What did Pandora do? What if you don't want to ride, but just look around the land and shops? I am curious if it will be REALLY busy in the summer, relax smidgen in Sept and Oct and then ramp up again for the movie premiere and holidays. IF Mickey's Halloween Parties stay over at Disney...How will that increase how fast those tickets get sold-out, for chance to go there under less crowded conditions?
Pandora had a queue to get into the land. The only way to bypass it was to have an FP and you could only bypass it when your fp was good to use. This queue didn’t last too long but did make reappearances during the holidays the first year.

This will be my first year since I started going to DL that I have not renewed my AP, nor do I have any plans to purchase one, it is just too expensive. If we go this year we will just get tickets, but I would not go without purchasing MP, and I am still OK with $15 for what you get.

Sounds like everyone need to do their research before going. No matter what there are going be some unprepared and angry. How does the queue work?I mean just because you go in when your fast pass time is ready doesn't mean you come right out...

They let x number in as x number exit usually. Not everyone will stay in SWGE for 12 hours.

We will pay buy we only have to buy it for the two in our family that are CMs. Well one is a Starbucks barista in DTD but gets a few Disney benefits like parking and a pass but CM passes don't come with MaxPass. Our other two children have the Deluxe AP and we added MaxPass for the year when I renewed 2 days ago (thankfully!). I am grateful that I have a set of friends who gift me one of their Signature Plus APs; it includes MaxPass and parking. :cloud9:

I am guessing if we were not local and visited 1-2 times a year, we'd spring for it and spend that additional $65 per day for MaxPass.

I still have mild sticker shock over the AP increases.

My sister and I are going for one day only. Yes - I think it would be worth it to get the Max pass.

A little off topic question - I'd like to get the Max Pass for both of us - is it something that has to link to your tickets which she is picking up (military) or can I get it separately for us?

For us, it is essential to enjoying our trip, so we will pay the increase. We have been to DLR when there was only FP-, and many times to WDW with FP+, and several times to DLR with MP. I much prefer MP for our touring style. My kids are old enough that rides are the thing, not characters anymore (sadness...). So MP allows a lot of rides, booking from the opposite park or even the hotel room (after scanning into the park). Heck we scanned in yesterday morning, then went to USH for the main part of the day to see Harry Potter World, and I booked FPs for last night from USH during our day there (I can’t ride motion simulators so I had some down time at USH!). When we got back, we had 6 or so FPs for premium rides all lined up for the evening at both parks. I walk so much at DLR that I don’t want to waste steps going to the machines. Also picking up cancelled FPs when the paper ones are out for the day is so, so helpful. Especially when it is very busy like this past week that we went. We always get Photopass, so this doesn’t cost so much more than that for a 3-4 day trip (though it is a bigger differential now that the price of MP increased). So to me it gives you a lot over FP-, but everyone still has to decide if what it gives makes it worth it for their family. It does for us.

I would probably do like others and just buy it for a day. We bought it for one day during Christmas and we were able to do almost all rides. I usually go day by day. If it was very busy and I needed it for more than 1 day then yes I would probably still buy. I’m honestly not sure where I would draw the line at.

Im annoyed, I got my Sig + ap in oct and my fiancee got the sig pass, since we only needed 1 pass to have parking, we were going to upgrade her's when we went back in summer, we are going back next month also, should have just done it already, cost myself $150 dollars.

This is my first experience with a big price increase like this, should we expect all the food and drink to go up roughly 10% more also?

Food goes up on a different schedule. They just did increases that I think they were going to do not too long ago with soda and snacks. And food doesn't go up in price as frequently as tickets do.

Edit: The last two times we saw big big price jumps were in 2012 right before Cars Land opened and in 2015 when they switched from the premium to the Sig/Sig Plus. What was the premium to what is Sig Plus has increased by more than 100% in just under 7 years.

Pandora was accessible to all a week after it opened. It was insane opening weekend, I’d avoid that for SWL! https://www.easywdw.com/easy/blog/pandora-wait-times-continue-to-drop-amidst-low-summer-crowds/

Were lines stupid long for rides? Yes. Are they still? Yes. Opening weekend they even had a couple hour line to just get into the shop from what I’ve read. (But that died down quickly.) ... The problem with the shops when the land first opens will be visitors but also the resellers solely there to buy land exclusive merchandise & re-sell it. The first to list gets the biggest price! I shudder to think what SWL merch will bring online... *considers cost benefit analysis of being banned from DLR for a year if caught... nope. Not worth it to me!*

Yes it’s going to be crazy for sure- but I wouldn’t get too concerned, especially if it’s an “eh” on your list anyway. Personally I’d look at Sept- which gets busier as the month goes on- as Oct has actually been a very busy time for DLR the last couple years as “fall break” has spread in popularity.
ETA: @Self-Rescuing Princess (OMG you have an awesome handle) ALL STOP on early Sept!! Deluxe AP can access parks for the first time* since SWL will open Aug 19, SoCal on Aug 26 & SoCal Select Sept 3. Beginning of Sept could be totally crazy this year. Earlier today I advised someone we need to throw out all previous crowd predictions for after SWL opens- advice my sleepy self needs to take to heart! Pick a time that works best for you & roll with the punches. (But be aware Gay Days has always been crazy, towards the beg of Oct, & I doubt it will get less busy this year with a new land!)
*depending when in June SWL opens

As far as MHP the rumor mill is the party will move to DCA. While this has been heavily rumored for a couple years this year we know they prepped a Halloween version WOC so that gives some weight to the party moving theory this year imho.

Personally I’m budgeting for a food increase like that just in case. I’m just happier in the “better safe than sorry group”.

We noticed some prices going up this past fall. For example, the dinner buffet at Storyteller's went from $35 to $37 in early October (when they got rid of the a la carte menu). Magical Star Cocktails were $14 last spring/summer, then went to $14.25 in September then to $15 in either October or November. So I wouldn't be at all surprised if all food went up some. :(

Thanks. Another poster said that if you don’t buy it ahead of time, you have to get it when you arrive at Guest Services and wait in line. Someone else posted that MP enables you to get FP one after the other without waiting 90 minutes in between. There’s a lot of misinformation out there, and as a newbie to DL, it’s very frustrating.

Either way, it’s not for us.

You don’t have to buy it at Guest Services. Once you enter the park, you can go on the Disneyland app on your smart phone to purchase it. You can purchase it for all of the tickets you’ve linked to yours or you can purchase it for just one or a portion of those tickets. But when you buy MP in the park, it’s for only that day. One day at a time in other words. You also need a credit card linked to your Disneyland app login account in order for the purchase to work.

I am very willing to shell out $15 a person per day for our family of 4. Why? Because our family are total Star Wars nerds. Because we really really want to get on those 2 rides multiple times during a Disneyland visit.

So that will mean for our typical 3-day trip, I will pay $180 for Max Pass. I’m ready to hand over my money for that. We’ve used it twice before and it was wonderful. SO much better than WDW’s frustrating FP system and MUCH more convenient than using one of us as a FP runner.

Instead, we will give up our breakfast at the Plaza Inn and it will come out about even in the overall trip budget.

Both Sig and Sig+ include parking... did you mean you got Sig and your fiancé got deluxe?

You could not get into Pandora. It was wall to wall people waiting hours to get into the land. You aren't getting near there without waiting hours or having a fast pass, even then maybe not. This will last a long time, at least several months. There are way more Star Wars fans than Pandora fans.

Yes, we would still buy MaxPass at $15 but luckily we got the Cdn deal with MP still at $10. Was going to wait to purchase our tickets next month for our March trip but with all these price increases, we just bought out tickets a few minutes ago. When we went last May, we didn’t buy MP for all of our 5 days but for this upcoming trip, we are bringing two newbies so MaxPass will definitely come in handy.
