Hurricane Dorian

We have been chatting about it in the transportation thead. Southwest now has free changes and Delta is waiving change fees.

Thanks, I just came across this thread. Not sure it will apply to us as we have a domestic DL flight connecting to international. Will continue to keep an eye on it!

Please keep up to date on Dorian. The latest on the news it could be a Major Hurricane ( possible cat. 3) before reaching Florida. I live right in the projected landfall and being from Fl I take no chances. Made Hotel reservations in my hometown of P'cola. If it comes in Brevard County it will also impact Orlando. Stay safe out there!

for those flying into MCO..do you feel that Sat isn't a good bet to arrive? are you changing to Friday ?

So all the latest reports within the past hour Dorian at a Cat 3 hitting Florida on Monday! So my guess is all Orlando flights will be canceled? We are scheduled to fly out of Orlando on Monday evening and I am seriously thinking of cancelling the entire trip.
Really can't get stuck in Disney as much as I would love to. High school and college kids need to be back in class. Can't miss days waiting to get out.

I have never been in Florida during a hurricane. From most of the models I just watched this past hour it is almost for sure hitting the east coast of Florida somewhere mid to north range. Will Orlando shut the airport down?

Thinking I may be better off moving our trip dates. Would love to hear from locals and people that have experienced this before.

@Disney-Kim There's a whole airtravel thread on the transportation page, but the prevailing thought process is to shift early, while you still can if your airline is offering waivers.

@sanibellife I'd wait to see what the next update says, but it's up to you. Where will you be flying in/out of?

MCO will shut down flights once tropical storm force winds are expected. When that happens is still a guess at this point. I would GUESS Sunday at some point, but the unpredictability makes it impossible to pinpoint.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the Orange County Sherrif’s department may ban all road traffic. They have in other hurricanes. That will force MCO to shutdown since their employees can’t get there and getting to WDW would be impossible. The Sherrif does this so that first responders can get to wherever they are needed. And by the way, even WDW vehicles are banned fro roads in WDW during this.

The winds and rains could arrive during Sunday and the ban will go up early. So plan for difficulties at MCO to star before that. Finally, airlines want their planes out of the impact zone so flights will likely cease early Sunday.

Disney's resorts are probably some of the safest places to be during a hurricane since they were built to sustain such. From what I have read there are many locals who will book one during such if their home is not as sturdy and sound. But I just wonder with it being a holiday weekend, how many rooms are available to book and at what price. I might go look just to see.

Not too much available. Especially much that is on the more affordable side.
