Yeah, it just kind of worked out. We were not looking forward to spending DD's spring break in the cold. I had a bunch of Hilton points that we didn't have plans to use in the next year to splurge on the Grand Wailea. And flights to Hawaii are cheap this winter and spring!

My wife probably would've preferred the Big Island. Volcanoes! Black Sand Beach! Coffee Plantations! Macadamia Nut Farms! And the foodie in her really wants to check out the mochi at Two Ladies Kitchen in Hilo. But Maui was a bit easier to plan. Next time.

I hope you two can take advantage of the low fares!

I think I might have posted this before, but one of our best trips to the GW was one that I kind of just threw together at the last minute with a huge discount from the hotel and last minute free flights on AA with points (when does that ever work out???), all because I did not want to spend another vacation in Tahoe freezing while DD and DH went skiing. I think you made a great decision to go to Maui, and I really hope you like the hotel. FWIW, DD likes the GWR better than our go-to in Kona since the Fairmont there has the same kind of lagoonish beach with no waves that Aulani seems to have. With a big trip coming up this summer, I doubt we can swing another trip in the Spring, but I think I'll at least look into it. :)

I need to rebuild our Hilton points stash. DW has fond memories of staying at the Hilton Waikoloa as a kid and wants our kiddo to experience it when we get around to taking DD to the Big Island for her first time.

They might although they haven’t clawed back in practice yet. They also might claw it back two years from now and send you the bill.

Thats my concern, if we cancel I can’t just leave that CC at negative forever so I am not sure how long to watch it before deciding to just put new charges there

I still don't know. I am refusing to look it up. :rotfl:
Then you shall never know

I googled and learned about dumplings. Maybe my google is a more refined version or a food focused version since I'm always googling for recipes? In any case we can all stay pure and unsullied by whatever this is. I've let it go.

And in other news I got an offer to keep my rose card, but was prepared to let it go - unwillingly. I had convinced myself it wasn't going to be worth it for another year. After the rep went through all the value I had gotten, I was surprised I was even offered anything. In any case I received 10k MR's and a thank you for being such a great long time customer, so long as I promised to keep the card, by accepting the offer.

I would put the charges on there now since they aren’t known to be clawing back at this point. If they do you’ll have to pay it back then.

Fascinating article about competition in the food delivery space.

https://www.vox.com/recode/2020/1/9/21058674/grubhub-sale-food-delivery-struggling-industry
TL;DR: Grubhub is currently profitable but exploring a sale in an effort to consolidate amidst declining market share in a very competitive, low-margin business. DoorDash is backed with VC money and growing its market share, but it's expected to lose $450 million for 2019.

And apparently, I'm a "promiscuous" diner because I like to shop around for the best discounts among the various food delivery services.
