Price increase -- It's Here! (2/11/20)

Well shoot. I just got Annual Passes for my family in January and was told I couldn't renew our passes until 40 days had passed from the date of first use. If I purchase discounted tickets to use after our passes expire, would I be able to hold on to them until January 2021
( if they have that long of an expiration date) and then use them towards our Annual Passes for 2021?

What? I think you might have misunderstood. You can renew an AP up to 40 days before expiration. Not 40 days from first use. If you bought your AP and activated it January 2020, then you won't be able to renew until beginning in December 2020 (starting whatever date is 40 days before your AP expires January 2021).

As for expiration of discounted tickets, you would have to look at the fine print on the ticket you want to buy. I see several say their tickets expire January 13 of the next year, but be mindful if it says a first use by date (in the past, my tickets usually said must be first used by December 31, but that they were then good until January 13).

Tickets bought now at the discounted rate are also likely old stock and will only have value for the old price at best (at worst they'll have value for what you paid; it's best to hope for bridging, but never assume).

It's a little late now (unless you can find a Disney store that still has stock of AP vouchers at the old price), but one thing that could have been done was to have bought an AP voucher if you knew you would return to activate it before it expired. I did this back when they dropped Premium and added Sig/Sig+ in 2015. Bought 4 Premium vouchers for my mom and myself. Had Sig+ for the price of Premium for the both of us for two years.

Thank you so much for that explanation!

4 days max pass for 2 people is now basically the same price as memory maker at WDW. Wish they would take the picture benefit off it and just let us make fast passes on the phone for free like WDW. But, it's a money maker, and people will pay. I won't. Old school fast passes for me.

Ugh. After some bad news at work yesterday this was just icing on the cake going to bed knowing I'd wake up to things I knew would not make me happy.

I'm among those shocked by the MP increase. $10 was an incredible, but also reasonable deal. $15 I thought a bit much, but still worth it if in the budget. $20? No way. Not worth it anymore and I'm sorry to anyone I've recommended buying it day by day. I'm not even sure I'll recommend it at all. I think the price is obscene.

I can't even really justify it for the PhotoPass benefit anymore. Photographers are so limited these days (I'm still annoyed by NYE time 2018/19 that I went in to see the princesses and there was one CM running between the three rooms to take pictures with other people's phones; and yes, I did issue a complaint about the lack of PhotoPass and a compliment for the CM for doing the best he could with a terrible situation he was dealt by management). And I do still think that benefit is largely there just as an excuse to charge for FPs booked on the phone. To some it would still seem like a "value" considering the cost of one digital photo.

I'm not happy with the $50 increase to my pass either, but at least it wasn't the shock I got last year in January when my pass had gone up $410 (loss of renewal discount plus two price increases before I renewed) from what I had paid for my pass the year before. Disney lost out on me just renewing my pass over that despite knowing I was not likely going again for nine months. Sadly I could see this happening again for me. No point to renew if I know I'm not going for months.

I know, there will always be someone who pays. I've been that person. I've also been the person that said "no, that's too much". But it still sucks. I'm dreading what this means for my NYE trip later this year. It's become an annual tradition with my mom I greatly look forward to. Will depend a lot on what that bad news from work means for the rest of my year if I have to say goodbye to it.

At least I've got my pass until late December for now I guess.

(((Big hugs)))
Hope your news from work isn't as bad.

How long are the Last Minute Travel tickets good? We're planning on going in April, but it'd be nice if the dates were flexible in case we have to change them. Thanks for all the good info!

I don't know why, but I feel like this price hike just pushed me into NOT getting an AP this year. I was 100% planning on getting it. And I knew it was coming as it does most Feb. And I know it isn't as much as it has been in the past, but for some reason I just can't justify it. It makes me feel tired just thinking about it. So we will do our Aug siblings trip. And then I think that will be it for me for the year. I'm surprised how much my opinion has changed overnight by just one change. I didn't think I would be priced out, and still don't feel I necessary am, it's just something else I guess. :confused3

Just bought our March tickets on UT. Have always bought directly from Disney, but with the price increase, saved $220 over the increased cost. Hope the UT tickets are easy to use at Disneyland, and thanks for the heads up in this thread!

I too just bought 5 day PH w/MP for $1309 (2 adults, one kid) at UT. Saved just over $200 vs. Disney retail. Phew, SO glad I saw this thread - thank you @kirstyfly for posting and alerting us all!

I had my e-tickets emailed to me in less than 5 minutes. This is my first time buying tix from a non-Disney source, so far so good!

I believe the Tickets at Work charge taxes and fees and they get away with it because they are based in Florida. A good reason not to use them.

I bought three hours ago and have not received my tickets yet. I received a confirmation but that is it....:crazy2:

I wouldn't worry. I bought a couple tickets back on Black Friday when they were really busy with a big sale. 24 hours later I had not received them, so I called. I immediately talked to a real human on the phone and she instantly kicked them through to my email. Be patient, I'm sure they are swamped with orders today.

When I bought mine, three weeks ago, I told my sales person (the wonderful Betty) that we'd be going either in March during Spring Break, or over Memorial Day. So she processed them assuming the March dates, but said they'd still be good through the end of the year. And the voucher (I don't have the tickets, yet - I expect them within the next few days) says they're good through January. Which is good, because we can't go in March, now.

I just purchased the last 3 tickets I still needed for my family through UT at the old price. Then I added insult to injury by looking the old email files from previous trips. I paid $186 for a 3 day hopper in 2011. The increases are just too astronomical. December's DL trip will be the last for us for a while. I guess it's hello Hawaii next year 🤷.

I think that was the year I paid $500 or $600 for the premium pass without blackout days.
