Since information is being withheld from above authorities, not sure which is the 3rd cruise ship Pence is referring to with possibly infected crew members from the same ship in San Francisco. But, there is a Carnival cruise ship in Southern California right now where a possible case is being tested. So, everyone on board is stuck waiting for the result.

Everyone on here can agree or disagree whether to still take a WDW trip, but I would strongly suggest not taking a cruise trip in the near future unless you want to be in a Petri dish. If even just one test comes back positive, you will get stuck on the ship for a duration of time until everyone is checked. Just not worth the hassle IMO.
Agreed. Getting on a cruise ship could really land you in a quarantine that could significantly disrupt your life.

I was supposed to arrive on 4/3, but decided to cancel. With the cancellation of the SXSW festival, and Texas only has 3 cases (last I checked). Mass gatherings increases the likelihood of spreading this virus. They keep telling us that 80% of people will have mild symptoms. What they don’t say is that statistic also means that 1 in 5 will have severe symptoms that will likely require hospitalization. My main concern is potentially exposing myself to be a carrier of this virus and possibly exposing my loved ones in my life that fit into the “vulnerable population”. Anything I can do to minimize that risk is a choice that eases my conscience.

I’m more concerned about flying to get to WDW than actually being in the parks....flying for a few hours inches away from some one who might be sick is concerning. Already planning to take wipes and small bottles of Purrell to use after rides...
Don't get in the stand bye line for FOP then :)

The CDC's information has no such age guideline.

It says "Older adults and people who have severe chronic medical conditions like heart, lung or kidney disease"

The age 60 comes from "two top infectious disease experts with ties to the federal government have advised people over 60 and those with underlying health problems to strongly consider avoiding activities that involve large crowds."

Older adults is a vague term though.
I am over 60 in good health with no underlying health issues. I am retiring in 12 days which will lower my chance of exposure but will still be leaving the house.
This "over 60" recommendation got my attention as there are a lot of working people over 60 that are not of retirement age yet. how are those over 60 supposed to support themselves if they stay home? Not everyone has the ability to work from home.

They have been pretty vague about what they mean by "older adults." But I did hear "60" mentioned in some press conference, and the U.K. officials clearly state "60 and older" so I am using that number as my guideline for our family.

Sorry, IDK why it’s not letting me quote...

Sometimes information gets withheld for a short amount of time to let personal notifications happen first, and sometimes to (gasp! Can you imagine?) make sure it’s actually accurate.

But in this specific case, the wrapper story that I saw around the Pence announcement said the two ships they were checking for possible cross-contamination were the Diamond Princess and another Princess class (sorry, thought I would remember the name) that has been sitting off SF but they’re now going to dock at a “non-public” port. I assume that meant military but that wasn’t said.

I don't blame you. I was more responding to "the CDC says.." because they haven't put in their official info that age..yet at least.

Simple Math -

We have 1,000,000 Hospital Beds in US -
65% of the beds are usually occupied

The rate of doubling if this virus is alarming so I wont present the numbers because that will another point of disagreement

If the 10% of the 325,000,000 US Population gets infected we are looking at 32,000,000 people

If 10% of those infected (based on current projections) require medical care you will need to care for 3,200,000 patients - and the 300,000 beds that are available at any give time may not be suitable for infectious disease

Along with the current extreme shortage of N95 masks, PPE (personal protective equipment) and Medicine (because 95% of medicines made in China) for our medical and emergency workers we will have to contend with

We have mechanisms to address quarantines, shut downs and not worry about civil liberties during an emergency

Italy
Lombardy's welfare minister: "every day we get 200 new people to the ER in critical conditions, which means every day we need to find 200 more hospital beds. […] the virus is spreading at an exceptional speed, faster than our predictions and than the data we got from China."

NY
The NY Lawyer who attended a Bar mitzvah with 400 guests has infected at least 30 people so far with many more under self quarantine

NEWS! Coronavirus Concerns Change Policies for Disney Cruise Line

Guests who have tickets to sail on Disney Cruse Line any time between now and May 31st are being given the opportunity to cancel their cruise up until the day before embarkation. Guests who decide to do so will receive a 100% credit for the cost of their canceled cruise that MUST be used on a future sailing date within 12 months of the original cruise date. (To clarify, no reimbursement or refunds will be given, but guests may cancel and reschedule their cruise using the credit.) Guests who are also setting sail on European cruises now through July 25th have the same opportunity to use their credit within 15 months of the original cruise date.

Should be a cash refund to those that want it. That would be fair and balanced

Yup ALL major Cruise lines are doing this. Got email from Royal Caribbean. Same thing.

If Disney is Forced to Cancel Cruises then 100% refund should be required- if a passenger cancels then the 100% credit to be used within 12 months is fair option

I agree with this. And that probably is what will happen and that happens now even before this virus. Anytime the cruise company themselves cancel, 100% full refund goes to passengers.

I wouldn’t Cancel any Cruises Yet !!!

Wait for CDC to force the cancellations of all cruises so you will be entitled to a refund

There is Zero benefit if you Cancel Early...

as long as you are allowed to cancel up to 1 day before the cruise date, why cancel early and just get a credit when the CDC may mandate all cruises to be cancelled

You will be forced to accept a 12 Month Use Credit if you cancel early

The cruise industry wants you to cancel now so your money will be are locked in, and you will have just 12 months to use the credits - unfortunately there will be a percentage that will never use these credits for one reason or another

Today News from CDC warns of Cancellation and Quarantines- ANYTHING POSSIBLE !!! ...

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on Sunday that while he hopes it doesn't come to it, the government could shut down certain sections of the country hit hard by the coronavirus.

Speaking during an interview on "Fox News Sunday," Fauci said that "anything is possible" when asked if measures like those currently being imposed in Italy could be enacted in the U.S. to help prevent the continued spread of the coronavirus.

ANYTHING POSSIBLE = CRUISE INDUSTRY SHUT DOWN

From BBC...

Coronavirus: Northern Italy quarantines 16 million people (note - 2/24/20 it was only 58,000 in quarantine )

Italy has placed up to 16 million people under quarantine as it battles to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Anyone living in Lombardy and 14 other central and northern provinces will need special permission to travel. Milan and Venice are both affected.
