DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Morning from the California penal colony!

Weather out here is great, but you can’t go anywhere fun. Took the boy for a walk yesterday and all the neighbors were out doing yard work, playing, or sitting in the driveway drinking and enjoying the sun. Saw very few cars on the street. It was like it was 1954.

I’m still trying to adjust to work from home. My son is in kindergarten and his school has gone off the rails. They went to remote learning, which is great, but the amount of work they expect him to do is about double what he’d do if he was actually in the classroom. Can’t do that to kids and can’t do that to parents who are also working from home.

Before California went on lockdown, our county was on lockdown through April 7th. My son’s school is closed until April 20th.

Panic buying is still really bad here. Saw a Dutch grocery store was selling one bottle of sanitizer for €5.50 equivalent but if you wanted to buy two, it was €143 each. Guess who was fully stocked on sanitizer!

Morning dads! I was about to say gentlemen, but it was difficult to not crack up laughing. ;)

Sorry I have been like a ghost lately. I was really busy at work. I don't get overtime, per se, but I get my salary broken down to hourly rate for everything over 40 and I was pulled in on another project where they needed my expertise. Been working 10-12 hours most days. Hasn't left a lot of time for the dis.

I see I have 30+ pages to catch up on and I'll very likely skim quite a bit, so if there's anything important, can someone splain.....no...too much, sum up for me?

Happy Sunday Dads! Local towns / cities including ours has issued State of Emergency and City of Nashville Mayor issued "safe at home" for two weeks. So far this DS is doing some college class work today with my work from home set-up, I am splitting time between facility and work from home. Video gaming (SW Battlefront II), spent yesterday outside on patio with a fire and grilled some burgers, DW scored some TP & paper towel this morning so we should be good for a bit there and will watch some tv of some sort today. Stay safe and thoughts are with everyone during this thing - cheers!

Morning all. Relaxing day this far. Made a pork tenderloin for an early lunch. Today's spice blend was salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, cinnamon, paprika, and baked in butter & olive oil mixture, and squeeze some fresh lemon juice to finish it off. It was terrific.

All these cooking shows are paying off. With the keto diet, I'm going to run out of fresh food soon enough though.

Later, I go in to the church to video our Mass and post it to social media. Whoever thought I would be the tech guy.

Walmart isn't doing that? Up here they're (stores) supposed to have marked areas to indicate the distance between people. Stores (and people!) can be fined if they don't.

Business are open if they can do drive thru, but big box stores have no limit on customers, just shortened hours.

Have a great Sunday fellas, may be your Bourbon cupboard be well stocked and free flowing.

I'm stocked on Basil Hayden and Don Julio anejo tequila. I'm good here.

I don't have a specific meal #, but I certainly eat a lot less than before. I only eat when I'm hungry, which is usually twice a day. Sometimes, once a day.

Morning all. Got up early and did some light exercise and going to work on cleaning the greenhouse when the sun comes up. first case of the virus here on the edge of nowhere. Someone from out of state came to visit a relative thinking their chance of exposure would be low here. Not if you bring it with you! @#!$

Been following the COVID #s website at https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/. It breaks it down by country, and in US, by state. KY is still really low. I've read next two weeks now will be the surge.

Fudge rejects...……….. fewer of those than bacon rejects :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl2:

No such thing as fudge or bacon rejects. State law.

And despite our closures, DW and I were walking and couldn't cross the road entering into our subdivision due to the traffic. I wondered where everyone was driving to if social distancing was being practiced. Our schools are closed to April 20 as well.

Don't put too much effort. Just our usual nuggets.

Afternoon everyone, just got back from grocery shopping, shelves are all well stocked,I think the panic shopping has subsided here. Everyone there was practicing social distancing., and the cashiers were wiping everything down between customers.
Fudge and candied bacon are finished.

Welcome back Doc!

Man... it sure is weird at work now. Lots of changes. But all designed to make us as safe as possible. Probably more changes coming as things get settled and figured out.

We have already had our first "I might as well be at school" comment from one of the kids. It's gonna be a long 3 months.
Or 5... or 8... or...
first case of the virus here on the edge of nowhere. Someone from out of state came to visit a relative thinking their chance of exposure would be low here. Not if you bring it with you! @#!$
Oh, come on.... :sad2:
Dd and I are going to candy some bacon, make some chocolate marshmallow fudge, to pass the time.
Do you ship?

I was just thinking that too! Lots and lots of people out walking.

"I'm not going to teach all of that! Wait... what?.. The parents have to? In that case..."

Effective!

Listen, Mr. No Nube comes in here and calls club members that!

Wait... something familiar about you...

Oh, right.
Welcome back, Doc.
And yes, you are correct.
Been working 10-12 hours most days.
Yikes!
I see I have 30+ pages to catch up on and I'll very likely skim quite a bit, so if there's anything important, can someone splain.....no...too much, sum up for me?
Well, as you probably already know, one of our number has transitioned and is now pregnant, so that's been a pretty hot topic, of course.
Not the transition... or the pregnancy... but if it's a boy, which of us does it get named after.
Business are open if they can do drive thru, but big box stores have no limit on customers, just shortened hours.
Here, Costco has limited number of customers allowed in the store at once. Suspect other stores will follow suit eventually if needed. Could be wrong, too.

Evening Guys,

Quiet day here today. Spent about 6 hours with a bunch of the Dads last night by using Zoom. It was a good time but I paid the price today, I don't think I should have had the scotch to finish off the night.

Long commute in the morning, good 20 feet or so to get to the dining room table/office.

Have a good one all.

US numbers
April 2009 to April 2010, 60.8 million cases of swine flu (H1N1) with 12,500 deaths.

2020 - COVID19 so far 32,783 cases and 416 deaths.

Worldwide
2017 - 1.6 million deaths from tuberculosis.

Perspective? I don't remember the panic, hoarding, social distancing/ work home/ schools out. I hope this doesn't get worse.

They look good.

DW had the COVID anxiety. M&Ms, nuts, pretzels, beer, and Reese's eggs. Keto blown and feeling miserable. Ugh.

Morning, Gents! It's Monday and I still haven't gotten a call to stay home yet, so that's a good thing. Though I have noticed that most of the admin people at work are now working from home. Speaking of admin people, I think I'm finally being moved over to Purchasing today. I was approached by my new supervisor on Friday and told that I needed to come over to his side next week because he has work for me...I'm not holding my breath, but we'll see.

The weekend went well for me. Every Saturday for over 20 years, a group of us has gotten together for breakfast on Saturdays. Well, we can't do that now as the restaurants have all been closed. So, we decided to meet up via Zoom, a video conferencing app. It worked really well and we all liked it so much that we're planning on doing it again this coming Saturday. I hope we are only going to be doing this a couple of times, but we'll see how this thing plays out. The rest of the weekend was spend cleaning and organizing...well, except for Saturday afternoon. The wife and daughter went out to run errands and spend some time at the in-laws, so I plopped myself down on my chair, clicked on Disney + and proceeded to watch Star Wars The Clone Wars. Love that show. It had been a while since I've seen it and wanted to re-watch it since they now have a new season, which I'm watching every Friday.

Well, have a good day, everyone.

Yep, we have a had a home school pack sent home with them, as it is likely to be 3 months. We are going to do a few virtual museum tours, a fair bit of Lego building, and mix it in with their usual online work, as well as some fun stuff.
We are gonna set up a rota system with a family down the road. Morning/Afternoon 1 per parent, so we can all get about 1 1/2 days in 2 done.

Our DD's school sent home a tone of work as well. My wife's trying to set up some Facetime/video chat with some of our DD's friend's parents, but it hasn't happened yet.

Fingers crossed mate

Thanks, man. This has really given me the spark to try and finish this online medical terminology course I've been working on. If I can finish that, with a good grade, it'll go a long way to getting a job in the medical field...which is where I want to be.

Thanks, man! Appreciate it.

No, I'm not working from home. Can't.
But... shifts have been reduced. Basically no overtime and extra shifts stay home but on call to fill any shortages.

Hope it works.

Yeah... Do you really need a 10 year supply of toilet paper?

No, not really, but in situations like this, I try to be prepared...so I go semi-mini hoarder. If I see it on the shelves, and I need it, I'll grab an extra. Don't worry, I don't grab every single item on the shelf, but I will grab an extra one or two.

Yikes. Good luck. Hope it works out for you.

Thanks, man, appreciate it. As I said above, this has lit the spark for me to want to finish a medical terminology course, which, I hope, will help me in getting a job in the medical field.

Stop calling it a quarantine.
Technically, you can only call it quarantine if it's in the French Province of Quarante.
Otherwise it's just sparkling isolation.

:laughing::laughing:

The slow grind to a halt in KY is continuing. Extended cancellations of meetings, everyone told to work from home that can, our governor recommending all funerals be immediate family only and no visitations, all churches closed. I haven't even looked at the 401(k). No point right now. Best wishes gentlemen.

It's like that here. My wife's a church musician, and all but one of her churches have closed. And the one that hasn't doesn't let anyone in, they go through the service with only those people that need to be there.

2017 had 1,600,000 deaths from tubercolsis. COVID has 11,000 so far. So, far the biggest impact is the loss of our constitutional right for religious freedom and right to assemble. The Britons should have just issued a pandemic alert, and we would still be a colony.

You wanna know something even scarier? I read an article, glanced at it really, that talked of Continuity of Government. The article talked about is what the government will do to ensure the continuity of the government and who will take over if so-and-do dies and what not. One of the contingencies is having the military take over. Now, that, I believe, would be an extreme case, but it is do able if it gets to that point. The government has to think of all possibilities to ensure a plan is in place.

Morning everyone from a overcast, wet Westfield NB. Some good news for me, oncology surgeries are still being done, so as long as that carries into the 26th I'll be done.

Hoping all goes well.

On Friday I was helping out in shipping and we had a big shipment heading to California, and we were all wondering if anyone was going to be at the destination to receive it. I believe it was heading to a Navy base, which there will always be someone there, but are they receiving anything, that's the question. I've heard stories on FB of neighbors getting together for drinks and socializing by sitting on their lawns and talking across the street. People will find a way, that's for sure.

I wish it was like that here, but people are still panic buying. I was able to find some good meats the last time I went to the store, but toilet paper is still a problem.

Hey, I have zoom! Love to get on board and meet some of you guys in person...well, you get the idea. Let me know next time you are going to do that via messenger. And as for your commute? Let's hope you don't have a hangover. 😆

I don't understand it myself, but people are panicking over this and that's the worse thing you can do.

Morning, gents.

Had a midnight shift last night, up until about 5am, and then off and on til 6am... wish I could say it was because I was at work.
I hate insomnia.

So other than myself and Tenor, who's working today? And if you are, from where?

It's Monday and I still haven't gotten a call to stay home yet, so that's a good thing.
::yes::
Speaking of admin people, I think I'm finally being moved over to Purchasing today. I was approached by my new supervisor on Friday and told that I needed to come over to his side next week because he has work for me...I'm not holding my breath, but we'll see.
Sounds promising though.
Sounds like the Saturday get-together was pretty good too, despite the restrictions.

We'll be sure to post the link here for the Zoom meeting/drinking from Facebook next time. :surfweb:

Good morning all from work panic central. We are in a super hurry to "get everything online". In the morning discussion, I reminded people of correspondence school, where you could mail in papers and be graded. You would have thought I made a suggestion everyone walk down main street naked at noon.

I don't understand it myself, but people are panicking over this and that's the worse thing you can do.

::yes:: And that's the message that should be getting out, but it isn't.

So now you want to know if I'm working or not... normally you guys get mad when I say I'm not working... 😉

Not mad at all. Perhaps a bit jealous.

Good morning, fellas! Delaware is now under a "stay at home" order as well. So, I'm just doing what they tell me to do. Good thing my family likes each other. Most of the time.

This had to be one of the longest weeks I can recall, Business is a $h** show with all going on and we are doing the best we can but DD being a nurse is starting to stress us out a bit to go along with all the other stress of the situation.

I hope your DD is ok. I'm sure that's stressful. Hope she is getting some rest.

It's Friday. Normally, it would be good to have the weekend, but there is a new round of this BS closure announced to April 17.

If it's any consolation, the data is showing that states that lock down sooner are doing much better controlling the virus than those that have been slow to act.

So now 2 days a week we are going to start to Eat our way around the World Showcase Countries. The kids will find out 10 things about the country, come up with a name and design a poster for the restaurant, and we will listen to that countries music while we eat. They'll also help me cook the dinner. Seeing as we can start in Canada or Mexico, the kids have picked to save the poutine until last. So Burritos it is on Tuesday. I'll put up the photos of the "restaurants" on here as we go round. It goes without saying that myself and Lady K maybe partake of a beverage from the appropriate kiosk...

That's a cool idea! Very creative.

I may have used the "Creative play" excuse to go and do about £600 worth of LEGO. I obviously didn't pay that much (I feel my discount is gonna take a bit of a hammering over the next 12 weeks), but it was sure a sneaky way to get the rollercoaster set in the house (insert mwah ha ha type laugh here)

I spent a lot of time in the Lego store trying to scheme about how I could get that roller coaster set.

Should be an interesting evening. I've gotten an email saying that one of our work positions is quarantined to be used as a back-up in case... I guess if someone gets sick, the others can use it?
Which I'm not sure makes much sense since then we'll all be forced to use the same position as opposed to splitting the group in two. I'm really not sure which is the better way to go. Not my decision anyway.

This sounds like a Who's On First routine.

We have already had our first "I might as well be at school" comment from one of the kids. It's gonna be a long 3 months.

I've heard ketamine works well as a tranquilizer.

Someone from out of state came to visit a relative thinking their chance of exposure would be low here. Not if you bring it with you! @#!

The rules don't apply to the entitlement generation. It was unseasonably warm here on Friday and we had thousands of people flock to the beach. Now the beach is closed.

I see I have 30+ pages to catch up on and I'll very likely skim quite a bit, so if there's anything important, can someone splain.....no...too much, sum up for me?

Welcome back, Doc! I think there were just 30 pages of fart jokes.

Long commute in the morning, good 20 feet or so to get to the dining room table/office.

:rotfl2: I had to go all the way to the home office. Might carpool next time.

I've heard stories on FB of neighbors getting together for drinks and socializing by sitting on their lawns and talking across the street. People will find a way, that's for sure.

I think that's cool, actually.

So other than myself and Tenor, who's working today? And if you are, from where?

Well, I'm working. But from home. Spent last week getting set up with a VPN to make it work.

So now you want to know if I'm working or not... normally you guys get mad when I say I'm not working..

Want me to get you a shovel to lean on?
