Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

We know more today than we did last week about potential treatment options. We know more today than we did last week about how widespread the virus spread in communities, many without life threatening symptoms. I propose we will know even more next week about how readily spread, how to treat once diagnosed, who is most at risk.
My question therefore is with this new information, what happens when the park opens as fully as possible (given staffing shortages due to DCP folks at home) will you go? What message(s) would you need to hear and from whom to realize the risk is much less than originally publicized?
Please, this thread is NOT for discussing treatment, risk, etc. This thread is about discussing modifications. We've already gotten the other thread locked, please stay within the purpose of the thread so we can avoid getting this thread locked.

I do see no characters, no meet and greets, no parades, no fireworks, no character meals. It will be just a rides park to start with.

Am I the only one who thinks seeing the Princesses in Masks that match their dresses would be cool and make for really memorable pictures? Ok, yeah, I admit it would be kinda weird...

Serious question: If they test all the cast members and everyone before entering the park and not letting anyone in who is positive, why would they need ANY of the other precautions? I think this alone (if it is even possible) would solve it. Right?
I think by itself this would be a great solution - in the 80-20 world, this gets us 80% there. Three issues that I see:
1. They may need other modifications until this is ready. The current COVID test takes at least 45 minutes to come back, so we are NOT at that 15 minutes yet, although we may be in the future.
2. And it has a 20% false negative rate. Which means, it misses COVID in about 20% of those tested that are positive, so some may still be coming with COVID into the parks.
3. And they need to ask if people are willing to do this because we've seen how guests respond to any modifications. The current test takes a swab up your nose. It feels like you have put a bunch of spicy wasabi up there. I can just imagine the cries in this forum of "my 3-year old will not be able to have this swab done."

So that is why they may need to consider other modifications in addition to the COVID test.

They need to just have people sign the waiver, keep everything as clean and sanitized as possible and go back to normal business with everyone entering at their own risk. All of the suggested modifications are untenable, unrealistic and quite frankly overkill. It would completely suck the fun and magic out of the trip. People in high risk groups just shouldn’t go, they’re responsible for their own welfare. Harsh but true. If the virus has died down enough for them to open then it should be fine to just go back to normal, with an increased emphasis on hand sanitizing and washing. There was always a risk of catching the flu (which lots of people die from too) or something else there. This is a serious and scary virus but at some point you need to be rational and not be led by fear. I don’t wanna live in a world where I’m forced to where a mask and take medical tests to get into a Disney park.

I would prefer safety to “Magic” – sorry.

It’s an illusion of safety. Masks and tests won’t prevent virus spread. People will still touch their faces, have to take off masks to eat, etc. I’m a medical professional and I’m not being cavalier about the virus, just rational.
Completely agree with this and your prior comment. People should make wise decisions for their own families. If one believes it's too early to be safe for their comfort zone, then they should just choose not to go. It will certainly be the cleanest it's ever been!

I’m curious about the potential required tests. So hypothetically, I could pay $2000 (or more) for my resort hotel reservation, pay hundreds of dollars in flights, thousands in tickets, arrive at Disney, check in to my resort, and head to MK. At MK, I take a test and test positive for Covid-19.

Now what? Do they just let me go back to my resort and hang out and use the amenities and spread it there? Do they force me and my family back on a plane to go home? I’ve already been on DME and in my room. Do they pay for the plane ticket and refund my entire vacation?

Or do they test every guest arriving at the airport before they allow us on DME? Do they cut out DME altogether?

What a logistical nightmare.

This is a great question!

I can't handle it for 10 minutes in Target!
:rotfl:
Right! When I went through my surgical training, as an RN student, I almost fainted in those surgical masks. I was so afraid that my lack of O2 would cause me to faint and land right on the patient. I moved back as far as I could and I did make it. I try to wear them at the store, but I pull it down when no one is around for the same reason.
All psychological? I don't know, but there it is.
PS: I DID Not go into surgical nursing, LOL!

A very valid question and a big reason why this testing thing would never work.

Exactly, the only way this works is if you are tested when you enter the "Disney bubble." For those arriving by plane, it would need to be done before they are allowed to enter Magical Express. For those arriving to resorts via their own vehicle (rental or driving in), they would need to test upon arrival at the resort. For those who are local, the testing would need to be when arriving at the parks.

But again, people are complaining about masks, their complains would be much worse about the swab.

Yes. I don’t think Disney wants that kind of responsibility. If someone tests positive on a test they administer, they now have a responsibility to deal with it. Closing and disinfecting every location and vehicle I have been in. Maybe even notifying airlines?

And what to do with me? And my dependent children?

That’s a lot of liability they open themselves up to.

Before they get on the boat or the monorail from the TTC? Maybe they could do that. But how do they flag someone as having tested positive? Put a big scarlet plus sign on their forehead? Do they track them? That’s a little scary.

And if I test positive at the airport before boarding DME, which airline is going to want to take me back home? Does Disney then have to notify all airlines that I have tested positive? Does the airline that transported me have to take the plane out of service and disinfect it? I am now trapped in Orlando.

I just can’t see how they would implement testing.

What I suspect is going to happen in America is that people will be tested and then given some kind of "ID" card indicating that they've already had the virus. Once you're 'in the clear' so to speak, you can go wherever you want. We're not sure if you can get COVID-19 again, but I'm betting you can't. In this situation, WDW may only allow people who have the "ID" card into their parks, hotels, Magical Express, etc.

Just a thought. At this point, everything is conjecture.

This is a serious question, and related to the topic at hand. Page after page about how new measures such as masks and social distancing will become the new normal. Everyone is posting like these are permanent additions to our culture now. My question, for those contemplating trips. asks if anyone would believe an "all clear"?
Personally I see this as temporary, until more data is known - and the country knows more each passing day. Talking with my sister last night, in the medical field and on the floor with Covid patients. She pointed out the distinct difference from a week ago, with how patients are being treated now with a number of strategies. Since we are up to page 19 of "what if" type questions, I am asking what if the all clear was at hand? Whose "all clear" would you believe?

At this point in time, if the State of Florida and other states allowed business to return to normal operation in a two week interval, would you still keep that June trip? Without any modified experience in the park? Is everyone here convinced there HAS TO BE modifications, and won't go without some visible interruption regardless?

Right & keeping a little kid from touching their faces is impossible. My 2 yr old will touch surfaces & his own face & mine & DHs. We’ll bring hand sanitizing wipes, but there is only so much I can do,
