Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

It's possible the poster was only referring to their own June UY points? I'm not sure.

Believe me, I am not at all excited about the prospect of a 6/15 limited opening. It means months and months of planning for my own stay are useless. However, I also understand the need for precautions and moving slowly. We are trying to decide between moving the date to late July or eating 40 of our 2019 points and moving to next year altogether. At this point, we just want to see some concrete info from Disney directly.
I get it. I was just saying someone shared the exact text of the email and it specifically mentioned April AND June Use Year Dates. I'm sorry ya'll are struggling with possibly losing your points!

Thanks! The first post in that thread is the email. We received it, too, and it is 2018 banked points from April and June- you're right. And it is warranted- people who banked to use them now would have lost them in the closure. We could technically still use our 2019 ones through the end of May 2021. But we are teachers, so our trips are usually in the summer so we can enjoy them and not feel rushed to "fit it all in" on a week off. Our choice, for sure. So weighing our options and seeing what makes sense.

Nah. There aren’t going to open to tons of people wanting to go. Opening day bloggers, desperate locals will make up the first wave. Some of us here have an appetite to travel, the general public does not. Evidence: abundance of room availability and seats on flights. Even with blocked middle rows seats look abundant in June playing around from the west coast.

Remember all the older folks at WDW?... most of them aren’t going for a looooong time. When you’re too scared to go to your grocery store you’re not traveling to a theme park in a couple months.

And I didn’t even get into the economic situation many families have found themselves in suddenly.

I also wonder about after you get home. Currently mine and my husbands work is making anyone who travels work from home or just stay at home for 14 days. I don’t know how long they will do this though.

I am on the phone with DVC member services right now. I wanted to modify my trip. The CM said that the parks are scheduled to open June 15. They may not open then, but they will not open before June 15. Magic Kingdom area is the ONLY area that will be open. Magic KIngdom will be the only park open. This will be Phase one. They will open other parks as they see how Phase one goes.

There will be NO FAST PASSES, NO CHARACTER MEETINGS AND VERY LIMITED RESTAURANTS. There will be a "digital registry" for rides. Again, MK is the only park opening JUne 15 until later phases.

He (the CM) also said that EPCOT will be the LAST park to open. I am on hold right now getting my OTU points refunded.

I have never had a CM (during this closure) be so candid and forthright with information.
Fascinating!!

If this is true, Disney is taking deposits knowing they will be cancelling on almost all guests booked from Jun 1-15 and using them for interest free loans... that's bundle of murky ethical water...

It’s one of the reasons I lean towards either it’s not accurate or it’s just a proposal out there they’re considering that may or may not come to pass. I’d still be amazed a phone cm was privy to those details though.

Although they are representatives of the company .... (but yes of course I know they are often wrong or mis informed).
Anyway, I suppose if this is true then people might start weighing whether a modified experience would be worth reduced crowds .... I know I will be.
Unfortunately we have had instances over the years of phone CMs blatantly lying 😞 But the few reports I’ve seen of that involve them trying to get someone NOT to cancel a reservation. (Or in my case I booked through a TA and they were trying to get me TO cancel the reservation and book through them right then. Luckily I knew they were full of you know what.)

Usually they’re just passing along the rumors they’re hearing. The level of detail from this one is fascinating...

I do wonder what he meant by "relatively normal opening by August"? All four parks and resorts open? Most of the restrictions lifted? I suppose this is currently one plan, and Disney has many backup plans just in case things don't pan out.
Yeah that bit puts the credibility of the CM in doubt in my mind.

Normal by august? Nah not gonna happen. You're right that the other parks may be open (although I doubt epcot will be) but nothing else will be anything like normal.

Epcot, IMO, shouldn't open too much later then any other park. I've believe they could easily use the large amount of part time CM's to fill in the gaps of the loss of International CM's until they either come back or get a new batch.

I'm still going with my personal opinion of MK and perhaps DHS opening up in some type of limited form in mid-late July, followed AK, and then EC. If anything opens in June, it will be Springs.

I keep seeing Epcot will open later, why? Because it’s so big?
