Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I went to Downtown Disney today and it was really enjoyable! We arrived around 12:15 and the parking lot was SO empty! It was seriously less than 1/5 full, if even that. We walked right through security and only waited about 5 minutes to get into WOD. The Wonderground Gallery and the Home store were empty, so we stopped there first. The line for WoD looked long but it moved fast. They were not doing any virtual lines today. Our longest wait was about 10 minutes for Marcelines, where we didn't find anything appealing. I thought there was a lot of cute new merch at WOD but mostly long sleeved stuff and hoodies, which I will wait on. I bought my husband 3 new star wars shirts, though. W also picked up 2 face masks (Mickey and Goofy faces). My son and I wore our Disney masks and they were VERY comfortable for 3 hours. They are actually quite cool and breathable.

Crowds weren't really an issue, BUT there were numerous people who just did NOT get the concept of social distancing and would literally walk so close to us that they brushed brushed our arms as they passed (this happened while we were waiting in lines for stores and couldn't really move out of the way, while they had like 15 feet of pathway to use). This happened more than a few times. It was really starting to annoy me by the time we left. The walkways are SO wide and yet people just walked right next to us repeatedly. I am not super paranoid, especially outdoors, and everyone did have on masks, but still. Don't come so close you basically touch me as you pass by. We grabbed a wetzel pretzel and jamba for one kid and my other son and I ate at EOS. EOS was surprisingly a slow process. I waited about 15 minutes in line at 2pm then another 10 for 2 sandwiches. Seemed excessive but maybe they have low staff levels right now. Who knows? I was impressed by how thoroughly the staff here cleaned the tables AND CHAIRS after every party left a table.

Also, we loved the portable sinks for handwashing in DtD. Very cool and we were able to wash our hands before eating lunch (the restroom near EoS was closed for a deep clean so we would have had to settle for sanitizers if not for the sinks).

Thanks for the link! I like how they conveniently are leaving out that there are other parks that were open before WDW in FL.

I’ve noticed this too. WDW is getting raked over the coals right now. Be curious to see how things go in the longer term in regards to avoiding outbreaks, etc. Do they even have to disclose if that occurs? I’m not sure how they works.

I suppose for Disneyland it helps to see what happens to WDW first to listen and learn.

Do they even have to disclose if that occurs?
No. Disney has their own medical clinic on-property for CMs and prior to the shutdown, CMs with symptoms were told to stay home and isolate but were told tests weren’t available. In that way, WDW didn’t have any confirmed cases.

WDW has their own fire department, paramedics / EMTs, and ambulance service. They don’t have to publicly report anything as it occurs unless the OC Sheriffs become involved. Disney has to divulge quarterly accident reports to FL and then they become public off of that state report.

If FL reports incidences based on contact tracing, that would be the only way to determine how theme park visitors have been affected.

I wonder if this is why they don’t want to provide on site testing for cms?
Probably, because positive results then become official confirmed cases.

Magic Kingdom won’t socially distance CMs on the Cast buses that run from the Cast Parking to the MK tunnel entrance. That’s probably a 10 minute ride and for a CM to be able to board the bus, they have to don: face mask, eye goggles, and a face shield.

They are wearing hospital-level PPE to ride the bus then go out onstage with only face masks unless they are in indoor locations where shields are required, and totally mask-less if they are in the cavalcades! 😮

Read too maybe things at once and made an error. Deleting my comments for this post

Maybe we’ll get more information tomorrow from Newsom. It’s said that he will be making an announcement about reopening. This could mean reiterating Monday’s message, expounding on it, or changing course👀 I’m eager given thetasigma1186’s update about reservations at DLR today. But it may just be an announcement of a complete lockdown......
What you linked says an announcement on SCHOOLS.

ETA: also, no need to go out of your way to put schools in all caps. We are all fallible, mistakes happen to all of us, and at this moment it was me.

Schools was in CAPS for emphasis only. I apologize that you took it as a negative towards you. Wasn't my intent at all.

At this point any announcement Newsom would make would be closures not opening. Hate to be a Debbie Downer but the likelihood that the parks are opening anytime soon (or even in 2020) is looking less & less likely.

I just received email cancellation of my Disney vacation, which was meant to be August 1-6. The email says that Disney is waiving change and cancellation fees for stays up to August 8. So I think we can safely assume the park will not open before then.

Sorry for assuming, but you’re most likely right. I’m still holding out hope- it’s all I can do!

I understand the holding out hope. As long as you are also being realistic in your expectations.

I do feel bad for those who are booking trips based on Disney allowing reservations (now mid-August) when there is absolutely NO indication that the parks will be allowed to reopen by then. I have said it before and I will say it again - Disney should halt all new hotel reservations until they are given approval to reopen. This allowing people to book and then cancelling them is not fair.

I’m hoping that somehow Newsom will allow theme parks to reopen since they are primarily outdoor operations. I know it’s unlikely but it’s 2020 anything can happen, right? Lol
Right?! Like so long as DLR submits guidelines that show they are maintaining and exceeding CDC guidelines by cleaning, requiring masks, social distancing, limiting the amount of people, etc. plus it would help with the portion of CA residents that are trying to get back to work too, seeing as an additional 1.3 million additional people have filed for unemployment. I think a balancing act is in the future....
