I have no particular dog in this, but this gives me heartburn. For all the math that's done to justify direct pricing around that AP discount, y'all better hope that non- guaranteed perk actually comes back.

So I only need to buy the AP 5 times for my math to work out that it was worth it or be in the ballpark (family of 4) (without any other benefit or discount for the life of the contract).

As for coming back the only reason its not available right now is based on no AP being offered. Every rumor, CM, ticket person, upgrades (DVC Gold -> DVC Plat), and contract language outline this benefit as coming back.

Now it could go away in the future no doubt. Thing is me buying RIV at $155/point really is not out of line in comparison to resale of CCV/BLT/VGF/POLY (the longer contracts).

Yes, I was able to combine them all since CCV, RIV, and AUL all have the same incentives.
Congrats!!! Welcome to the RVA club! I might end up doing sort of what you did but in reverse, if I can convince DH on adding on at CCV before the great incentives go away.

I keep seeing posts about never-Riviera (or at least RVA-negative) folks buying there in the end, probably what's feeding @i<3riviera 's conclusion that the resort is actually selling on par with how VGF sold. It's a nice place, enough that many, myself included, eventually looked past the high dues and charts.

SSR is actually a great resort...Unless you end up in Carosaul. We loved it so much that we added on there and yes..use those points usually at SSR. For older kids and older folks (like me) it really is a great resort. if you asked me this 10-12 years ago I would have said no way to SSR and BLT is the way to go. My point is as your family ages favorite resorts change. MK is not my kids priority any more - they like the World showcase and DS now (as do I)

My personal views of resorts are just mine and I am really glad you have a resort that you enjoy thats what makes Disney personal. I hope you have some of the best vacations in the future at Disney at a place you can really enjoy.

And in several years people may actually be recommending it. Go back and look at the early responses to VGF on this board and it is similar in its vehemence: high points etc.. oh look, it's beloved.

Lol, it didn't take a deep search to find what you're talking about.

As for RVA: I recommend it haha

What?! I had a whole thread on SAP points and everyone said SSR. Sigh...

Edit: well, not EVERYONE, but it was certainly the consensus...
At current prices that aren't getting ROFRd it's clearly SSR. There's very little chance that the contract that Seth referenced will pass ROFR; Disney has been typically grabbing OKW somewhere around $5-$10 below SSR and between the MFs and the 12 years, SSR is clearly ahead.

If things turn, and SSR stays in the $90s and OKW drops to the $70s, and Disney pulls back on ROFR again due to a flood of foreclosures a la 2009, the math will look different. OKW has room types that can be tough to get at 7 months (GVs and Near HH booking category), SSR generally does not.

Anyhoo we're way off topic here.

Interestingly the AP gold pass access is the one thing that I think is fully justified in @sethschroeder's purchase plan. Yes, there's risk, but I think it's unlikely it will be pulled anytime soon; it's the biggest gun in their arsenal for pushing people to direct purchase. I would also be willing to take that risk for the $1900/year it would save my family if APs were in our future; each year lowers the effective purchase price of 100 points by $19/year for as long as it sticks around.

All of the perks are not guaranteed, which is not limited to APs, but includes Fastpass Access, EMH, the Skyliner, the Monorail, the boats and buses, free parking at the parks, Magical Express, the list is long. I believe the POS guarantees a room, a restaurant, and a pool, and that's about it. Signing up for DVC is accepting the risk of anything going away. When I think through how likely are they to eliminate them, eliminating the AP discount for direct purchasers strikes me as less likely then eliminating Fastpass access, EMH, Free theme park parking, and Magical express, but more likely than eliminating park transportation options. So I think it's worth the risk.

Thank you!! And do it! CCV is such a beautiful resort and these incentives are likely to be the best we’ll see for CCV direct. If you purchased at RIV and you haven’t closed yet, you’d get the total point incentive for both.

It's true, we've never had long threads here on DIS lamenting something stupid DVC did that hurts members.

We have direct benefits so I too hope the AP returns and stays forever, but there are a shocking number of posters even here on this very board justifying their direct purchases because they'll have the blue card and be part of the club. I tend to think DVC could remove everything except the color of the membership card and the 20% merchandise discount, and they'd still have buyers lining up, even ones that know about resale. There's an intrinsic, untraceable value to the feeling of being part of the club, and DVC has that. I'm of the opinion that they don't need the AP discount to continue getting direct sales (because then the conversation will shift to how Moonlight Magic or dining discounts make up the difference vs resale). That's why I think it's smart to take the AP discount out of any purchase math - assume it's not available because, as it turns out, it's literally not available right now, and it hasn't always been around.

Wait? Is RIV $155/ point?
