Have you gotten a COVID vaccine?

I had a whole, less-nice reply typed out to other posters compared to what you wrote, so good on you...sigh.

Sorry to derail the thread further from personal experiences, but in my case, my husband's superintendent wants them all in - all students back except for those who opted to remain fully remote for the rest of the year - in mid-February. I believe districts only get vaccines if they agree to go all-in. Ohio is not offering vaccines to teachers until February 1 and our roll-out has been slow. So as far as I know, no, my husband does not have to get the vaccine, but it has been decided that all of his kids will be back in his classroom relatively soon. How he's going to space out 30 kids, I have no idea. And how they are going to vaccinate the *entire* staff - teachers, bus drives, cafeteria works, etc. - with both doses in that short amount of time...? I have no idea on that either.
Maybe they meant 1 dose with the 2nd dose scheduled maybe? Pfizer=21, Moderna=28 days plus effectiveness on both ends of when the vaccine kicks in plus Feb only has 28 days to begin with. If they are talking about full protection after both doses and time after the 2nd dose then they haven't been paying attention to the timeline of the vaccine or they hoped vaccines would be starting earlier than Feb or they didn't hinge their plans on vaccine schedule and just went in with picking a date they wanted students all back regardless. Either way understandable in the frustration level.

Thanks. It is a rough situation. My school district isn't even waiting for the vaccine. k-5 went back 5 days a week this week and 6-12 will start 5 days in person on the 25th. They are also following the guidelines from DeWine on contact tracing and quarantines or the lack there of. My kids will be staying home doing fully remote.

I touched a bit on this above. Our governor has now said that the schools do not need to quarantine with exposer in the school. He has also said that he wants all schools 5 days face to face by March 1st. He has done a 180 since the start of the pandemic. Here is what he said about the quarantines.

Governor DeWine announced that Ohio is changing its guidance regarding quarantines following an in-classroom exposure in K-12 schools. Moving forward, students and teachers exposed to a COVID-positive person in school are no longer required to quarantine as long as the exposure occurred in a classroom setting and all students/teachers were wearing masks and following other appropriate protocols.

So sounds like it's less about vaccine feasibility and more about in-person learning. It's been quite annoying IMO all the flip flopping by the officials. I'm all for adjusting things when it's because we learned from past actions but that's not what happens a lot of the times.

My dd’s best friend (17) gets the Pfizer vaccine tonight. She’s a volunteer at the hospital. I’m happy for her because she lives in a multigenerational home.

The only side effect she is reporting is feeling faint almost 24 hours later. Thought I’d add this since I’ve not seen too many young adults report how they’ve felt.

My daughter is 25. She got the first Moderna shot yesterday around 1-1:30. She woke up at 1:30am with a fever. 6:00am, fever, very sore arm. Headache around 11:00am. Still has a fever. Tylenol is helping but wearing off and symptoms return.

Poor kid never gets sick and is pretty miserable.

Thank you for that -

For some reason I thought they were not vaccinating anyone under 18??? Admittedly, so much has come out that I may have misunderstood what I heard or read. I don't have anyone in my immediate family under 18 so I hadn't been looking for the most recent guidelines.

Thanks for that report, appreciating the info everyone is sharing!

27; same thing happened to me and my 22 y/o brother; should mostly be gone by tomorrow morning if our experiences are any indication. The hangover-y malaise and sore arm were the last to go for us

I’m pretty sure It was the Pfizer vaccine because she said she wouldn’t have done the Moderna. Isn’t there one that they give to 16 and above?

My school district has been fully in person for PK to 5 since August. Sixth grade and up has been fully in person since early September although high school did have virtual Fridays in December due to our dire sub situation. My district has also been doing the "no need to quarantine if everyone was masked." That policy actually seems to be working as we haven't had mass outbreaks. They seem isolated and mostly traced back to personal behavior- a party, holiday gathering, etc...

I had my first dose on holiday break and am scheduled for dose two next week. My appointment is scheduled for 7:00 am. If it is as organized and streamlined as last time, I should have no trouble being at work by 7:45. I will work that day and see how I feel since it was evening before I started to feel the first dose. I figure that I should make it to 3:00 without a problem. Then I'll judge how I'm feeling and take the next day as a sick day if I don't feel well.

I would take a sick day or half day if necessary to get it.

I got my second dose today (Pfizer). So far, I feel fine. Just tenderness at the injection site.
Same... I’ve had Motrin on board since about 30 minutes post injection and plan to keep it going through tomorrow.

Hello everyone, I received my second shot at about 2:45PM here in the Philly burbs(Bucks). It's now almost 10:30PM and I'm feeling no ill effects as of yet but I fully expect to feel something later this evening/tomorrow morning but perhaps this is just my mind preparing me for something that will not occur. My first dose went without a hitch but this time the person administering it to me was seemingly more active in making me feel like something was going to go down in the hours that come. We shall see, I shall fever my dreams away but hopefully not. I'll check back...

My MIL (over 75) got an email from her state (NC) instructing her to set up an appointment online for her first shot. When she logged in, she was given two locations to choose from. One was an hour & 15 minutes from her. The other was 2 hrs. & 15 minutes from her. Before choosing a location, she decided to call her doctor's office to see if there was any way to get the vaccine closer to home. They got her an appt. at a drive-thru vaccination site in her own county for Saturday. I don't know, if that delayed her appointment date. If it did, it couldn't have been by more than a week.

I was able to schedule a vaccination appointment for my mother for Thursday. Once again Hillsborough came through for me. Scheduling the appointment was easy and straightforward.

My dad had no side effects from his first shot. His second shot is on the 30th and I hope it will be the same.

Sarasota ran out of vaccines and all the people who had second shots scheduled were notified that their appointments were cancelled. Still no word on when they will get more.

With the recent change in eligibility guidelines here in New York there are now roughly 7 million people eligible to receive the vaccine. New York currently receives 300,000 doses per week. Unless the supply somehow increases, it’s going to a long time before we can get the vaccine (we are both over 65).
Our county has no published vaccine administration plans and there are no vaccine administration sites in our county yet. We have two CVS and two Walgreens pharmacies in the entire county and they haven’t been authorized to administer the vaccine yet. It appears that some hospital workers have been vaccinated but that’s unclear as the local newspaper hasn’t reported anything and it’s “word of mouth” via FB.
