Are Disney Parks now making people wait three hours during character meet and greets now?

We literally walked in to both sides with five minute waits max a month or so ago. Near closing time.

We just came home from wdw. Longest waits I saw posted were 80 min for any characters. Some lines offer genie plus also. Most lines were way shorter especially those that didn’t offer genie plus. I usually wait in the lines while DH takes DS to do other things. I saw a lot of families with young kids doing this too. It does bug me when I am in a line full of adults. For one, they often take longer than the families w/ small kids especially if it’s a group. They all gotta get their individual special pic with the characters & often time also in multiple variables like person 1, then 2, then 3 & then 2 & 3, then 1&2…🙄. I blame social media for that nonsense. I know everyone has the right to meet the characters, but it’s ridiculous to me that a grown adult wants to hug a teenager in a costume. We went to wdw plenty times as adults only but never did meet & greets w/o children but whatever. This past trip was mostly families in the lines we were in & was much faster.
So it’s ok for someone to hold a spot for others but not ok to see characters after waiting in line?

For the record, I only have an issue with holding a spot for a couple people if you don’t think others actually have a right to be there.

WDW is not just for kids though. It's even advertised (in the past, at least) for the "kid at heart". Everyone there paid to be there, so they can take as long as they want (or the CM allows). It's ridiculous to me that "small kids" seem to have more rights than other people, KWIM?
I acknowledged there was no rule against it. I agree wdw is not just for kids. I went many times without any kids when I was an adult. But I never stood in line to meet characters. I said I don’t understand why a grown adult would want to stand in line to hug a teenager in a costume. Do these ppl also stand in line to sit on Santa’s lap & tell him what they want for Christmas? Maybe they do 🤷‍♀️. Seems strange to me. And I admit, I’m annoyed when I’m in a long line of adults waiting to do this. Children don’t know it’s not real.

As far as little kids having more “rights”? Are you a parent? I can’t imagine a parent asking that question. It’s not rights, it’s more protections & considerations. They same with any class of ppl who maybe needs it more. I’m not talking about wdw lines but in general.

Sigh. Everyone has a right to be there. I just said I don’t get it b/c it’s a child in a costume. I find it weird. That’s all. Little kids don’t know that. As far as holding place in line, what’s the difference? I don’t care who else does that either. We are not adding to the line. Just exchanging who is there.

We can find it all the weird we want, but it doesn't give you the right to be judgy or want them to stop. Kids need to learn to wait as well, you don't need to protect them from waiting.

It's not a child in a costume - it's either a college student or a young adult. I've watched my adult daughter and her college friends have amazing interactions with some of the characters at WDW. They do Disney-bounding a lot. Seems like the characters have a lot of fun with them too. So are you saying only little kids that think the characters are real (and how do you explain the multitude of mall Santas and Mickey at all 4 parks at the same time?) should be in those queues? So, anyone over the age of 7 or so, who know the characters are CMs, shouldn't go in the queue because you don't understand how others want to do it? That would be like me thinking you shouldn't have a college logo as your icon/name here because college stuff like that is for 18-22 year olds, KWIM? I mean, college is just a little part of life, why be so involved in it after graduation?

🤣 ok so a teenager in a costume of that helps. Like I said, it’s weird to me for grown adults to wait in line for this, but whatever floats your boat. And lol on your college reach. I’m not going on campus & sitting in the classroom.

It’s truly an art form to start a thread crazy enough that people can’t resist commenting, but not too crazy that people realize what’s up, and then never reply again in your own thread. Where’s old lady been I miss that account.

What if she’s the mom in question!?

Where do you stand on adults taking pictures with celebrities?

People who run into their favourite actor or singer and take a selfie with them.

Not my thing, but not weird imo b/c those are at least real ppl. Mickey Mouse is not real. It’s a teenager in a costume. So that’s strange to me. Ftr, it’s strange to a lot of ppl, so it’s not like I’m some outlier on this. But, again, whatever ya wanna do.

No, I think the issue some people have with your statement is that you feel the need to tell the world that you think certain people are weird in your opinion.

Only as it pertains to this thread. Perhaps some ppl are so defensive about it b/c they know it’s kinda ridiculous to do 🤷‍♀️? There are plenty things that I like & do that others might find “weird” like going to wdw at all without a child (before I had one), but it doesn’t bother me that others have a different opinion of it b/c I can see how it might seem odd to some ppl.

But judging people that way isn't cool, IMO.

Getting back on topic and wait times. This board is really the only theme/amusement park board that I've seen complaints about long waits.

The weekend of Halloween at Cedar Point it was a 2 hour wait to just get into the park. Once in the park most rides were an hour to 2 hour waits and food lines were 45 minutes. I saw very few complaints about the waits.

And we’re supposed to be ok with that?
