OMG I LOVE the Sea Quench Ale!! That's my go to beer that I bring on beach vacations. It's been sold out at my local Publix for about a week now </3
We like to do a lot of build-you-own packs at the local liquor store it's great for trying out stuff and getting things that aren't sold in actual packs. I remember the first time I picked the up thinking "ok...this is very risky but I'll give it a go" . It's hard to explain how those flavors work together but they do :)

Awwwh man I went to #70 and it's gone....I missed out!

$3 gas?!??!! I just filled up at Costco couple days ago and it is well over $4! We would be so happy if we see the number 3....even 3.95....LOL!
Thank you for speaking out for the west coasters. I certainly feel like we are below middle-class sometimes even though we aren't, because of how much things costs around here. I had a discussion with my cousin recently about cocktails prices on Disney cruise (we went on the Wish last month and it was our first Disney cruise). Their drink prices blew our minds! They are around $10-13 per cocktail, and that's almost cheaper than the restaurants/bars around here! Their Drink of the Day? Ranges from $5.50 - $7.50!! I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the receipt on the first day. I thought it was missing a "1" somewhere! LOL! 😂 I can't even find that during happy hour around here unless I go to a dive bar!! Anyways, I said because of the lower drink prices, I felt like it was hurting less when we were on vacation because we are so used to that type of pricing on a daily basis. Then she said, "yeah hurts less for a week or two but it just hurts more all the time, everyday!" 😂 And the truth always hurts!! 🤦‍♀️😝 Sorry if I went :offtopic: !! Oh wait...is there even a topic anymore here? haha!🤣
I bring my own beer and wine on Disney cruises. I like craft beer so that saves some money. You can bring it on at every port. Our last cruise stopped in Belgium so that was a win for me. I remember when drinks on the ship were 7-8 dollars so I feel like it's expensive. I can't compare it to restaurants around here because we rarely go out at home.

We're cruising on Royal next time. I got the drink package. It was ridiculously expensive, but I have a feeling with the price of drinks I won't have to drink much to break even.

We were about 4.59 for gas the last time I filled up. It might be more now.

Someone should mention a wedding and then we'll have a quintessential DIS derailed thread.

I like them! I just bought a six pack that is POG juice flavor! 😋

The cost of weddings is one of the main reasons why we got married on a cruise ship!! While it still wasn't cheap per se but we felt like, if we need to spend money to have a wedding and our family/friends also need to spend money to attend our wedding (we have a lot of families that don't live in the same state), then let's make a nice vacation out of it! That was one of the best decisions ever!

I had tried flavored IPAs, and the POG one from Maui brewing....still a no! Can't do it....😵 But their Imperial Coconut Porter though...OMG!! 🤤😍😍 I usually can't drink heavier beer but that one....if they sell it outside of Hawaii it would be stocked in my fridge at all times!

I do the same thing...and there are plenty of times I am happy I didn't buy an entire 6 pack of anything lol

I have found the wine store has the best collection of craft beers. Im going to look for some of the ones mentioned above.

I keep seeing updates to various cruise line's drink packages either the cost or what's included in it. It's def. creeping up there it seems if you want to cruise.

On the topic of IPAs that's an issue for us getting a variety pack because many of them include that. On the topic on not getting a 6 pack gosh you're so right, I get some duds or downright bad choices sometimes.

But what my husband and I tend to do just to gauge an understand is while we're in the liquor store we'll google the beer usually Beer Advocate or Untapped come up as places to go for ratings of beers. Now some people are way off IMO of their taste palettes but chances are if it's lower rated we'll bypass that, helps weed out what is probably not considered a good beer by enough people.

:thumbsup2 Yeah 100K where we live it doesn't stretch that far. On paper it is so ridiculous! But do I want to move? Not really! Can I? Absolutely! Just because costs of living elsewhere in this country is cheaper doesn't mean my quality of life will be better if I were to live in those places.
I think you raise a great point on quality of life - thanks for sharing your thoughts!

$7000 after housing costs and taxes is a lot of money and certainly not middle class. That’s more than I take home in a month

I never said it was middle class. I was pointing out that geographic COL really does make a difference. $300k income in many parts of CA "feels like" middle class in lower COL areas. I was making the point that no matter what your "take home" pay is, if you have to use 50% of it for your housing costs, it can be hard to have extra for vacations.

And when you have a family and have to feed everyone, that $7000/month in CA gets quickly eaten up by everyday expenses. Food, gas, utilities, clothing, insurance, retirement savings, etc. Our expenses before we even get to food are around $1500/month and we don't have any debt at all. I can't even imagine having to pay for a high premium or high deductible medical insurance plan on top of that.

And if you have other savings goals, like an emergency fund, or a house maintenance fund, or for us, a down payment fund that you are working on, there isn't always enough leftover for vacations.

So I thought we were building a rapport, sharing reasonable points of view, and then you drop that nugget ... :confused3

Apparently someone is holding back on the POG juice and using it to make IPAs! :drinking1

Every store that used to sell it is not now. Maybe we know why.

I can still get POG juice at my local supermarket. Albertson's in Southern CA.

DCA has a good POG hard seltzer at Pym's Tasting Lab.

So in full disclosure, my fridge contains at least eight cans of IPA *shudder* - leftover from some gathering that apparently @Smugpugmug crashed unknowingly to me and left behind - they reside in the vegetable drawer - because, well, there was room :)

That actually has happened a time or two at our house..not the vegetable drawer part :upsidedow . Around here for many people they leave it intentionally hoping the host won't mind taking the not as desirable leftovers 🤣

Not a wedding, but we've set my brother's memorial service for July 8. Why then? So we can tack it on to our family's vacation. Nothing like a good cremation to start off the fun!

Seriously, it's the only way my family of 6 can make it to a ceremony celebrating his life. And he's not going anywhere at this point.
This is funny! But still....I'm so sorry for your loss....😢 You do what you can to make it work! No judgement on how long you wait to hold a memorial service for someone. They are NOT cheap!

Like I mentioned in a subsequent comment for a family of 4 just under $78K is considered low income in my metro according to HUD. I have no idea where the OP lives but it very well could be they are considered middle class in their area but would be considered low income in my area 🤷‍♀️

Agreed! IMO, I think no matter how much money an individual or household makes, their tips/recs on how they afford vacation should be respected, period. Why can't we just learn those things from each other regardless of income? Just because a household makes 200K it doesn't mean they can splurge on their every vacation. We don't know their stories but we can certainly take their tips/advice and see if they work for ourselves? As the old saying that's always true, don't ever judge a book by their cover.

Oh my I feel so much guilt in this derailment when you put it that way, discussing my appliances. BUT in all honestly all those things help save money so there is more for the Mouse.
Don't even!! This is so entertaining for me! LOL! 😂 Probably one of the best threads ever!

I just have to say that it is actually kind of nice to have a thread like this. I often read posts that makes me want to go down a rabbit hole and force myself not to (most of the time). I like the CB because it is much more accepted.

Fun, random banter is good for the soul. Thanks for the laughs :)

P.S. In no way is mine meant to be picking on the OP. I've had my feelings hurt plenty of times on here and to some extent understand that she was unhappy it went a different direction than her intent.

Agreed!! I definitely got some laughs outta this!

I think before anyone does any postings, we need to be prepared that we will get some responses/comments that we don't like. I have had my feelings hurt a few times too on here and in the FB groups, but I just kept scrolling and didn't respond to those. How else are we gonna keep our sanity if we fight all day with strangers?!? lol! 😆
