A very merry (and pink) birthday trip report

RoseBug

A day full of travelling and the arrival:

Rosebug woke up at 8am and the first words out of her mouth were “Are we going to Disneyland? TODAY?” As soon as we said yes, she was running round squealing like a lunatic and it took some effort to get ready to go. We were on the road by 11:30am and not looking forward to the 3 hour drive up to Glasgow airport; but tbh it wasn’t as bad as we thought, Rosebug was exceptionally well behaved, playing on her Disney games on her innotab and listening to the Frozen soundtrack on repeat.

We made only one stop to grab a McDonalds and a toilet break and made it to the Park n Fly carpark at 3pm, and I was surprised how easy this was. We pulled up; signed in and the bus was already there to take us to the airport. Within 10 minutes of pulling into the carpark we were inside the terminal waiting for bag drop to open. We dropped off our bags and headed through security; picked up our Euros and sat for a while in Starbucks with a hot chocolate waiting for our gate to open.

Once onboard Rosebug started to get super-excited so we got her focused on some colouring and her innotab to stop her from exploding and before we knew it we were landing at CDG!

As we were waiting for our luggage we got chatting to a couple from our flight and Rosebug played with their daughter; turns out they were from the town where I work and we have mutual friends. "It's a small world after all!" ;)

Our luggage took only a few minutes to come through and we headed out to be greeted by our Ezyshuttle driver; who was the same lady who picked us up in February 2012! We were slightly gutted as we pulled out and realised it was torrential rain! :sad: I just had a bad feeling that this was going to set the precedent for the trip but tried not to let it bother me.

As we were driving to the hotel Rosebug and I were chatting about what we wanted to do and see, and she said she wished we could stay in the pink hotel and look out the window at the Castle. I told her it was very expensive to stay there, but we would one day. Then as we pulled in I could see her looking and the realisation hit her that we were at the pink hotel; she practically jumped out of the car and jumped up and down shouting “I knew it! I knew it! The pink hotel! Oh my I am so excited! Are we really staying here? The princesses stay here too mammy!” pixiedust: princess:

The second we walked through the doors that wonderful, magical scent of vanilla and sandlewood hit us and tbh I was a bit in awe that we were finally staying there. There was no queue at check in; as it was now nearly 9:30pm. We were checked in by a wonderful CM who gave Rosebug balloons and we practically skipped up to our room. We were given a room on the 4th floor and it was only a few doors away from the lifts. As we walked in Rosebug exclaimed how pretty the room was and ran straight for the huge window; climbed up on the sill/window seat and flung the curtains open and shrieked with delight at the view.

To the left we had a view of Fantasia Gardens and the Studios; straight ahead was the main building of the hotel all lit up and magical and to the right we had a view of Main Street!

Such a perfect room with a magical view. We then noticed there was a gift for Rosebug on the table and as she was occupied with this I sneaked her Princess goody bag and letter onto the bed.

After she had read this and opened her bits and bobs, we explored the room and I took photos of all the little magical features:

DH said he wanted to go downstairs and speak to the manager. We went down to reception and he asked for the manager by name, introduced himself and thanked him for the lovely room and gift for Rosebug. The manager was lovely and asked Rosebug if she liked her room and view, she told him she did and wanted to stay in it forever. After we said our goodbyes, DH said he had emailed earlier in the week asking for a nice room with a view for Rosebug but close enough to reception for a quick dash back if needed, and that he had received a lovely personal reply back from the manager and had wanted to thank him.

We went back to our room via the boutique where Rosebug bought herself the Aurora dress up doll play set and I booked Rosebug’s princess makeover for 11am the next day. We went for the 50euro package as there was no option for an Elsa package and when Rosebug was getting ready for bed I sneaked back down to the boutique and bought the Elsa dress and pin to surprise her with before her make-over. We got back to the room and Rosebug played for a while in her new favourite spot in the window.

We finally went to bed around 11pm but I didn’t get to sleep until about 3am as I was just too excited to sleep! :cloud9:

YAY for the TR :flower3:

Wonderful start :thumbsup2 I wish I was there. Someday I will stay in pink palace too and probably will act just like Rosebug princess:

I love love love the views from your hotel room :love:! I think if I got a view like that I'd be up at the crack of dawn just watching the resort come to life.

Brilliant start! The room is amazing I hope we get something similar in November (make a wish lol). I think I too will be acting like little rosebug!!!

Looking forward to more!

Yay, you've started! Can't wait to read more :)

I admit I slept with the curtains open and fell asleep looking at the lights! I can't believe we had such a wonderful view!

Lovely room and view, what a good start to your trip

It was lovely and the perfect start to a perfect trip!

Looking forward to more!

I am sure an email requesting a 4th floor room not too far from the lifts, with a nice view would help! ;)

Thanks for reading along guys!

Day 1 – part 1!!! (sorry!!!!)

We had planned on an early breakfast but it took us much longer to wake up and get dressed than we had anticipated after the mammoth journey the day before, so once we were ready and Rosebug had decided on her Aurora dress (complete with birthday sash and badge) we headed straight into the park for just a few minutes after 8am! Our first stop was City Hall with Rosebug’s medical info and were greeted by 2 lovely female CM’s who read her GP’s letter and had a quick look at her consultant letter and gave us a green priority card. As one CM was doing this I saw DH looking confused as the other CM was on the phone to someone talking about Rosebug, I realised what was happening but DH was still totally confused until she handed Rosebug the phone and told her there was a telephone call for her!!! Her face was priceless as Mickey Mouse wished her a happy birthday and when he hung up she just looked up at me with this wondrous look and said “Mammy, that was Mickey Mouse saying happy birthday to me! How did he know it was my birthday trip?”
As I was filling in the forms etc. the other CM was chatting away to Rosebug, who was telling her all about her best friend, so the CM gave her a badge and wrote her best friends name on it telling her it was a gift for her best friend! So sweet and it made Rosebug so happy as she truly loves her little best friend.

We then headed to the top of Main Street so we could stand and gaze lovingly at the Castle,

We wandered down Main Street; looking in the shop windows and headed straight for Rosebug’s favourite place in DLP- the castle; up those stairs and our own little Aurora was in her element wandering around pointing everything out and telling us “her” story. We stood out on the balcony for a while and just took a few moments to soak it all in – back in our happy place!

After we finally coaxed Rosebug back down the stairs she begged us to take her on the Carousel , so we ran over to the disabled entrance and got on the next stop, with Rosebug choosing a horse with pink flowers on it (of course!) and her face totally reminded me of why we love this place so much.

Says it all I think!!

We then rode a pink Dumbo and a pink teacup (can you see a theme yet?) and just enjoyed the laughter and smiles of our wee girl before taking a slow walk back to the hotel for a late breakfast and Rosebug’s surprise; stopping along the way for a family photo outside the castle. As we passed the shop near the turnstiles Rosebug noticed the Minnie hat and ran over to try it on and asked if she could buy it with her birthday money; as she went to pay she spotted an Aurora soft toy and squealed with delight – she has been after one for ages; so she was very happy with her purchases!

We got to the California Grill at about 10am and were seated straight away in the room on the far right of the restaurant, and it was relatively quiet. We had a lovely view of the castle from our table; so it was all very pink themed – pink hotel; pink dress; pink doll; pink hat and pink castle in the distance! So very perfect for our little pink princess!

Breakfast was delicious, both DH and I opted for the hot options today (although I skipped the veal sausages) and Rosebug tucked into bread; ham and yogurt with hot chocolate to warm her up! As we left the restaurant Chip & Dale were outside doing their meet & greet so we stood for a few minutes in line, being entertained by Mickey and Pluto up on the Castle Club balcony, who kept running look down and encouraging the kids to shout and cheer for them! Was very “loud”! ;-)
As Rosebug was wearing her birthday sash she got such wonderful interaction from Chip & Dale, who got the photographer; CM and some of the queue to sing happy birthday to her and a round of applause. She was grinning from ear to ear! A perfect start to our holiday!

After her cuddles from Chip & Dale I raced back to our room to hang up the Elsa dress and pin for her surprise and met them outside the room after telling Rosebug I had been back to the restaurant to find my scarf (which was in my bag!) When we entered the room she spotted it instantly and looked at me incredulously and shrieked “An Elsa dress! An Elsa dress! HOW DID THIS GET HERE?” I explained that Elsa had left it as a surprise as she knew Rosebug had asked for one for her birthday and that if she put it on there was a surprise waiting for her downstairs. She was already half out of her Aurora dress by the time I had finished explaining and once she had on her new dress she switched to full Elsa character and started posing; singing and acting…which became the theme for the rest of the day!

We went down to the Princess Boutique and waited for a little Aurora to finish her makeover before we were ushered in. The lovely CM asked her how she wanted her hair and instantly she said “A plait just like Elsa’s please!” Once her hair was done she was guided round to get her make-up done; I am pretty much anti-make-up on little girls but love face paint etc. So I was gutted when she put black eyeliner on Rosebug; and I was quick to get in and request no mascara. However; once she finished her facepaint and added her tiara I got over the eyeliner thing slightly (never again though); as she looked so beautiful (she always does!) and she was then taken for her photographs. My girl has the most gorgeous smile but when she poses for photos she sometimes puts this glazed look and glakey smile on…so we only had a few photos that I could choose from that resembled her! Typical!

She was so happy with her make-over and was eager to go back into the park, and we had an hour before we should be making our way to Auberge; so off we went. As we walked through the park other guests were pointing to Rosebug and exclaiming how cute she was and wishing her happy birthday; many of them were stopping and telling her she was a princess and a few curtsied! She was in her element and it really made her feel special.
We decided to try the Princess Pavillion but as we got there the easy access queue was out of the covered area; so we avoided this and our first stop was “It’s a small world” where Rosebug made us tell her every single country on the way round – and decided that Peru sounds like poo; which provided much hilarity!!! I do like “It’s a small world” … for the minute; anymore than that and I want to poke my own eyes out and fill my ears with concrete; unfortunately Rosebug loves it! After we escaped this ride, we decided to go on Casey Jr. I keep forgetting how awesome this ride is, and Rosebug’s face is a picture of excitement throughout so we made a promise to get on this more than once this trip!

We then went on the Storybook boats; which I just find utterly delightful, as does Rosebug. Unfortunately this trip we noticed lots of litter floating around and on the models and Rapunzel’s tower was missing?! However, it was still a lovely ride and as we came to the end the CM noticed Rosebug’s birthday sash and shouted Happy Birthday to her and asked her if she would like to stay on for another ride, to which she said yes please and told me he was a lovely man!

Once we left the storybook boats we walked towards Alice’s labyrinth and straight into the Queen of Hearts! This greet was the only one that we experienced that resembled a scrum, but it wasn’t as bad as others we had experienced in the past. Parents were just pushing their children infront of others and into other peoples photos; children were on the floor trying to look up the Queens skirt and adults were pushing children out of the way. Rosebug missed her turn about 4 times due to rude behaviour but I was not going to let her push her way through; partly through manners and partly due to her tummy being distended again and not wanting to risk an elbow in her tummy. Eventually she managed to get her meet; as we had teamed up with another family who felt the same, and we stood our ground, whilst not being pushy. And it was totally worth the wait. The Queen towered over teeny Rosebug who just stared her out and laughed her head off!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/74283508@N04/12729726895/]

She handed the Queen her autograph book and then when she handed her the pen the Queen handed her the book back, Rosebug thought this was hilarious and called her cheeky! As we walked away the Queen put Rosebug’s autograph book in her hood and waved her away.

We then had the meet of the holiday with the Mad Hatter. I just wish I had videoed it. Thankfully this was a queued meet and the CM allowed Rosebug to use her pass, so we stood to one side for a bit and then the Mad Hatter turned with a flourish and greeted Rosebug and she was simply enchanted by him. He started by talking about her outfit and called her Princess Elsa and asked her if she could do the same snow magic as Elsa. Rosebug replied that she could so the two of them spent a minute doing snow magic together, with elaborate hand gestures and much laughter, especially when the Mad Hatter declared that Elsa was confused because it was quite clearly sugar and not snow, to which Rosebug argued back in-between giggles that it was indeed snow and he was mad!
He then offered her an imaginary cup of tea, which she took and politely sipped and they chatted for a while.

He asked her if she knew Elsa’s song, and when Rosebug said she did he asked her to sing it. So she did. The WHOLE song. From start to finish. With actions. After the first part he looked at us and said “Oh, we are getting the whole rendition! MARVELLOUS!” Winked and joined in with her, encouraging her to sing louder and they both finished with a grand finale!

At this point the CM told me Rosebug was the cutest thing ever and that she was nearly crying at the interaction. I did think maybe she was crying at having to listen to a 5 year old sing the whole of Let it Go! ;-) When they finished some of the queue and the CM cheered and clapped, and she asked for his autograph. We were about to say goodbye when he asked her if it was her birthday, she said it was her birthday trip and he then told her all about unbirthdays; picked her up and started to dance and sing with her. It was just wonderful; she laughed the whole time and it was truly one of the best meets we have ever had!

It was the same Mad Hatter in the parade that day, but he obviously had different make-up on for the parade on Wednesday as he looked slightly different! ;) ;);)

He was definitely more animated on the Monday too! :goodvibes:thumbsup2

Day 1 - part 2!!!

After our meet with the Mad Hatter we only had a few minutes to get to Auberge for our princess meal. We arrived bang on quarter past and were asked to wait a few moments in reception; which gave us a chance to shed our coats and catch our breath. We were then escorted to our table which was on the dance floor; near the fireplace. The princesses were at various spots around the restaurant and we saw it was Cinderella; Snow White & the Prince and Belle. We have never seen Belle at Auberge; as our previous two visits had been Cinderella; Snow White and Aurora. I was a little disappointed Aurora wasn’t there, as she is Rosebug’s absolute favourite and she was desperate to see her. However, DH was very happy that Belle was there!

Our server, whose name I am ashamed to say I have forgotten, was wonderful. So attentive and very cheerful. He brought us our Princes Cocktails immediately and gave us some time to browse through the menu.

I deliberately ate a big breakfast as I know that I don’t like the Auberge food so much. As we were waiting for our starter Suzy came to visit our table and Rosebug did a little dance with her; had some cuddles and a photo.

For starters I chose the ham and fig salad, and DH had the Pumpkin Soup. I love salad and dressing, but this really did nothing for me and I only had a few mouthfuls and DH had one mouthful of the soup and ate no more. Rosebug did better than us and at least tried a few mouthfuls of her starter but she really didn’t like it, so she asked if she could fill up on more bread. (She loves white bread because she doesn’t get it too much at home. Poor girl! ;) ) As we were eating Cinderella arrived at our table, and she was truly lovely. Chatting to Rosebug about her birthday and Frozen, telling her to watch out at the parade for Elsa because she was expecting Rosebug to be there! They posed for some photos and Rosebug got her autograph.

W were then visited by Snow White and the Prince, who asked Rosebug about her birthday and asked her if she could sing Elsa’s song, so Rosebug dutifully broke into song, but thankfully only sang the first part! ;)

Snow White and the Prince gave her a round of applause when she finished, and signed her autograph book with a happy birthday message.

They both asked Rosbeug for a kiss and a cuddle and as she said goodbye the Prince called her back and kissed her hand. Once they left daddy spent the next 5 minutes winding her up with “OOOOooooooh you’re in love with the Prince!”

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/74283508@N04/12755046964/]

Our mains came and I had ordered the chicken again, as did Rosebug and it was much the same as last time – kind of chewy and not too tasty. However, DH had the braised beef and he said it was delicious. Rosebug was getting antsy at this point as Belle still hadn’t been round, and they had gone off for a break. The server came over and told her that Belle would be round to see her soon and she was happy with this and played with the little girl on the table next to us for a bit, while we chatted to her parents. Then the music started and Snow White and the Prince came onto the dance floor, and Rosebug was transfixed watching them dance. After they had finished Rosebug spotted her little friend from the airport so went to say hello, and then we headed back to our table. I saw our server talking to Belle and then realised it was time for Rosebug’s birthday cake, to which she was completely oblivious, singing along with them until she realised that it was coming to her and Belle was coming with it. The tables around us joined in with the clapping and singing, which was really lovely and Belle sat with Rosebug whilst she blew her candles out.

Belle stayed for a while chatting to her about her birthday and her day. When it came to time for photos there were lots of cuddles and posing and I could see DH itching to get up, so I asked Belle if he could have his photo with her because he was a little bit in love with her. She laughed and said of course and he posed for what his no his screensaver! ;) The server asked us if we would like birthday cake with our desert and Rosebug asked him if she could give some to her friend and her mammy and daddy on the table next to us! <3 Our deserts arrived and they were delicious; definitely the highlight of the meal!

We chatted for a while longer with our new friends, until it was time to go because the kids were getting silly together! We decided to head back to our room for a little rest as Rosebug was starting to get a bit tired, and as a result a bit tearful. Unfortunately on the way up Main Street she got distracted by the car going passed, and just as she turned her head she walked smack into a pillar! I was holding her hand and felt her walk off course and I just couldn’t tug her away in time to save her a bump! It was absolutely the end of the world for her and no amount of cuddles could comfort her, so as we spotted Minnie at the Town Square we thought maybe that could cheer her up. As we walked towards the disabled queue she just got more tearful and we were about to turn away when the young CM called Ashlie, came over and started to talk to Rosebug; she gave her so many cuddles and comfort, then called some of the other CM’s over who came and did the same. It was absolutely wonderful, seeing them care so much about my upset wee girl. Ashlie managed to talk Rosebug into meeting Minnie so took her over and explained to Minnie what was wrong and asked her if she could kiss her better. Minnie crouched down, kissed her head and scooped her up into the tightest most heartfelt cuddle and the tears finally stopped and we eventually got a little smile out of her.

We had lots of wonderful CM service but Ashlie was wonderful, really went out of her way to make my girl feel better. I could have hugged her, but instead Rosebug did and thanked her for looking after her!

We headed back to our room with the remains of our cake and had some time out, with Rosebug plonking herself in her now favourite spot and playing with her Aurora doll play set.
After a rest and some playtime we got ready to head down for the parade; we were unsure where to stand as last time we used the disabled area for a parade was a bit of a nightmare. We asked a CM and they directed us down towards the castle and said the disabled area there was the best choice. So we wandered down and noticed a huge section cordoned off and hardly anyone inside. DH came with me to the entrance to say goodbye and as we showed our EAC the CM apologised that only one of us could go in. We said it was fine, we understood and DH would just stand elsewhere. He then told us to go and speak to his colleague standing in the next area and took us over. The new CM said for us to go in but told DH to stand nearby and that if it was still as empty 5minutes before the parade he would go and get him. Sure enough, 5 minutes before the parade I caught him looking around until he spotted DH and called him over. Then he started to let others in to be with their families as there was plenty of space. It was nice to have DH with us as I really wanted us to see it as a family.
We have never stood in this area for the a parade before and I have no idea why not! It is so much more magical with the Castle in the background! As Rosebug still had her birthday sash on as soon as the parade started she got lots of lovely interaction, starting with Chip rushing over to give her a hug and then Fauna gliding over to wish her a happy birthday.

As the princess carriages came out Rosebug squealed with delight as she spotted her favourite, Aurora and was beaming when she waved at her. Once the carriages passed us by I heard Rosebug gasp and there was the Frozen float. She was just in awe. Anna spotted her first and waved, mouthing “Elsa!” and then Elsa spotted her, pointed and waved, mouthing “Happy birthday princess!” This made Rosebug’s day and she turned to us and gasped “Mammy! Daddy! Elsa just waved to me!”

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/74283508@N04/12754472455/]

As they passed Flynn also spotted her and pointed, said Happy Birthday and then got Rapunzel’s attention pointed to Rosebug and she beamed at her and wished her a happy birthday too!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/74283508@N04/12754881884/]

Then the Mad Hatter came by and was fantastically in character again, and had Rosebug in fits of giggles again. I love listening to all the kids squeals when the characters come in sight during the parade, it is so magical. Rosebug spent the rest of parade pointing out each character and singing along.

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/74283508@N04/12754555623/]

We had a reservation at Café Mickey at 6:15pm but were out from the parade much sooner than we thought so we had a slow walk up, looking in the shops and I am sure we squeezed a few rides in on the way! The queue outside Café Mickey was starting to get bigger and it was already full downstairs, so when we were led upstairs I was a little disappointed as it just didn’t seem to have much atmosphere. It also took a long while for someone to even take our drinks order and we had to ask for someone to take our food order, as others who came after us were served! Rosebug and I asked if we could have a ham pizza (which wasn’t technically on the menu) and DH had the steak. By the time our food had arrived we still hadn’t met any characters, although whilst we were eating we met Mickey, Goofy and Tigger. Very nice interaction, but nothing special and quite quick – a hug, photo and autograph and then off to the next table!

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/74283508@N04/12754841324/]

We had long finished our food, which was delicious, and Rosebug was beginning to get very tired and a bit grumpy, and it was ticking closer to time for Dreams so we decided it was time we left, and headed back to our room to get Rosebug out of the Elsa dress (so impractical) and wrapped up. As we were about to leave 3 more characters appeared – Eeyore; Pluto and one other who I can’t recall for the life of me. We realised that if we stayed we would end up missing Dreams as we seemed to be the last table any character got to so we just left.

We made a quick pit stop at our room; got Rosebug changed and headed back into the park for Dreams. We decided we wanted to see it together so didn’t bother trying the disabled area and got a spot infront of the band stand at the top of Main Street. Dreams was spectacular and Rosebug was in awe. However, it was spoiled by people turning up half way through, standing in front of us and hoisting their kids up on their shoulders. I understand they want their kids to see, we wanted Rosebug to see too, but wouldn’t block someone else’s view deliberately to get her it. So we missed a lot of the second half but still enjoyed very much what we could see.

After it finished we stopped by a store to get Rosebug some colouring in stuff and then headed to Café Fantasia for the highLIGHT of the trip:

[url=http://www.flickr.com/photos/74283508@N04/12754737845/]

We were served by a wonderful CM called Mathias, who Rosebug took a bit of a shine to. As we were leaving he was at the bar fixing some drinks but she insisted on going to say bye and showing him her picture. He was so sweet with her, crouching down to her level and telling her it was a lovely picture of Aurora. I think she liked him! LOL!
We then headed to back to our room, and fell asleep looking at the lights of the hotel and Main Street through our window.
