Disney's POLYNESIAN VILLAGE RESORT Information & Questions

Does anyone know how many standard view rooms have a king bed and what buildings? I can’t really find any discussions online about it and I switched from a pool view to a standard view just in hopes of getting a king.

People's regular convos in the hallway really carried into our room, so much so that I decided to teach my own kids that no matter the time of day, we're now silent or we whisper when we walk down hotel hallways since you never know who's trying to rest.
I wish more parents were like you - I was in Swan and Dolphin during some cheerleading event and the "responsible adults" were upset that people were telling their kids to be quiet at 1 am in the hallways. One mom was yelling back saying you don't work for the hotel so don't tell my kid to be quiet.

All I know is that they didn’t put any in Hawaii. Over the years I have seen a random post but really not much out there. Samoa the only one I remember.

I wanted one one year, We literally changed our mind from a non Disney Florida area and drove to wdw. I booked while we drove! I requested a king at check in desk. They did not have one, However they don’t like to not have what you want so then ask for a room with a balcony or patio/or building location you’d like. Hopefully they can find something that works for you.

Good to know. We are checking in really early, around 9 AM. Do you think I’ll be able to go to the front desk right away before our room is ready and ask if they were able to meet our room requests? Or do I need to wait until our room is ready?

No, Front desk is not where to ask. When you get to the Poly you will be greeted at the front desk and let them know you want to go to the CL lounge. You have access the 24 hours of the day you check in and also the last day. Trust me you want to head to the lounge. You will leave your luggage with bell services, and someone will escort you to the Hawaii building. When you get there, you will meet the phenomenal Club Level concierges. THESE are the people you want to ask, especially since you are arriving early. They bent over backwards to accommodate us for a 3rd floor balcony.
Good Luck, they will become your best friends by the time you leave!
Whoops, I just realized you may not be staying CL. In that case you do want to speak to the front desk. Let them know you are willing to wait for the room to get what you would like. We were very lucky this time as they did have a room available!

Yep not staying club level, but I will go to the front desk as soon as I get there. Thank you!

If I don't get my room ready text I check in at the lobby. I have checked in for Cl in the lobby sometimes too. Resorts with elevator access your MB won't work until you check in.

Keep in mind your room is assigned in advance. Sometimes the desk can pool from rooms not yet assigned , yet some trips I have been stuck waiting from 11a to 4p ( I am looking at you BC!!) because there are not any rooms to switch to.

Most trips things work out but it all comes down to what is available when YOU arrive. GOOD LUCK!

We're considering getting an Oasis patio for one of our rest days in June but I'm kinda hesitant since it's still just full days on offer, because I'm not sure if we'll want to pop over to FW to see the horses at some point during the day. The last time we had a patio for the full day we ended up staying there the full day and just leaving a few minutes early to go to MNSSHP. Is it okay to come and go from the Oasis patios? I know with the GF cabanas all you had to do is tell one of the recreation CMs that you'd be back and it was fine but I don't know if the policy is different with these.

Just got back from a 6 night stay at the Poly (Club Level, Garden View) and thought I'd share a few thoughts while it's still fresh in my mind!

The good:
The room was beautiful and spacious--we got a 3rd floor CL room with a lovely view of the Oasis pool. We've never stayed CL before and found it especially convenient with kids--it was nice to be able to grab a quick snack or a soft drink or send them there to start breakfast if we were still finishing up getting ready. In addition, the concierge staff was very sweet and helpful when my son got unexpectedly sick our first parks day. They gave us coupons for Powerade and the info for a pharmacy that delivers and unprompted gave me a credit for 3/4 of my Genie+ purchase that day (we only got to use it for one ride before he got sick). They also sent complimentary stuffies and merch to the room, which was amazing. When my son started feeling better but could only eat fruit, they went out of their way to accommodate that even if there was no fruit out. Having a kid be so sick at Disney was a truly miserable experience but it would've been even more so without the ease of the CL concierge and CL amenities so I was very thankful we happened to splurge on it for this trip.

As always, transportation was good to MK and Epcot, which is a huge pro. The buses could be a little hit and miss, especially returning mid-day, but they were good enough. And Ohana breakfast on our check-out day was good, although admittedly not needed food-wise due to the great CL breakfast (my favorite of the CL food).

The meh:
Housekeeping was surprisingly average. I wasn't expecting towel figures every day or anything like that (although thought we'd get them at least once!), but it was very basic. Some days they didn't even empty the trash can, which I thought was odd since it clearly had garbage in it. And attached is a pic of our phone on our checkout day, after receiving daily housekeeping. Not a dealbreaker of course and it's super tough work at a very busy time, but it was noticeable to me, especially due to the price point. We tipped every day regardless though.

I was also surprised by how much more hallway noise I noticed this time (the last time we stayed ground floor Aotearoa and I don't remember really hearing anything, maybe because our room then was close to the exit). People's regular convos in the hallway really carried into our room, so much so that I decided to teach my own kids that no matter the time of day, we're now silent or we whisper when we walk down hotel hallways since you never know who's trying to rest.

The bad:
The Ohana and Tambu lounge dinner food items I had! We checked in at 9pm (our initial flight for the day before was canceled at the last minute and we couldn't be rebooked for another day) and we were exhausted, grungy and hungry upon arrival. While the kids ate a Captain Cook's kids cheeseburger and watched the outdoor movie, I quickly stopped at Tambu lounge and ordered the noodles, ribs and pot stickers. The Ohana noodles I was served were some of the worst things I've eaten, lol--SO painfully sweet. And the ribs' only flavor was salt, and too much of it at that. I was so excited to eat and remembered liking Ohana dinner just fine the last trip (not amazing, but decent enough) but everything but the pot stickers was frankly inedible, and I was ready to eat almost anything at that point! I brought down the noodles to my husband, who is racoon-like in his ability to eat the food the rest of us leave behind and he literally spit them back out after taking a bite of them.

Final Poly thoughts: As you can see, this clearly wasn't the best trip for us, but obviously a lot of that wasn't really Poly specific. We didn't get to try Trader Sam's and we had much more limited pool/relaxation time than anticipated, since we lost a full day due to flight issues plus several chunks of days due to kid sickness. I did notice that the Lava pool was really crowded during the day, with no real way to get a seat during afternoon breaks. And I wouldn't count on waiter service at the pool if that's your thing. I really feel like the Poly should expand at least the seating area of the Lava pool (if not the pool itself!) before the DVC rooms are done (or is that going to have its own pool?).

The first time we stayed at the Poly I couldn't wait to return but after this trip, I'm admittedly excited to try a different hotel if we ever return to Disney. I think Poly could benefit from more kid amenities like a playground or a small arcade (like Contemporary and AKL have) and I want to try a hotel that offers a bit more than mainly pools for kid recreation. But again, this is after two 6-night stays at the Poly so I think it's reasonable to try something new, haha. I do want to add that we stayed at Universal's Portofino hotel for the final two nights of our trip and although we missed the Poly CL, that was a much more genuinely relaxing experience, which surprised me.

Hope this helps!

We were there last week and I just wanted to add to your noddle comment. We got the noodles at Tambu Lounge and they were the worst!!! It was like they dumped a gallon of the sauce on them. So overly saturated I could barely eat them! I was so excited to try them since everyone raves about them. I thought maybe I just got a bad batch but seems like you did too! They were $13 for a small bowl.

Truly wretched—if i was less tired or more of a Karen i probably would’ve thought to push to get them get off the bill but it didn’t occur to me. And those are def the same Ohana noodles—not unique to Tambu lounge.

If you reserve for the day, it will have reserved with your name on it I think (or at the very least, the reserved sign) and I didn’t see anything that indicated you had to be glued to the patio all day (in fact, that would make it less appealing, as you note). As long as you leave something minor in it to show it’s still in use so they don’t proactively clean it up, I’m sure you can go in and out of it.

You should be able to come and go. We have left and come back to ours. Last year, we also saw a few with names on them where no one ever came and it was left untouched all day.
My DH loves those patios. It's his favorite part of the trip 😂

You have reserved the Patio at the Oasis pool for the entire day. So you are free to come and go at your leisure. You can even arrive well past the the beginning of your start window in the morning if you have had a late night or a breakfast activity.

You just want to let the attendant(s) know of your your plans so they don't clear your patio during your absence and reset it for the next day.

We booked one for the first time for our upcoming June trip. My DH told me yesterday “You know you messed up, right? Because now I’m going to tell you not to get me park tickets on future trips and just reserve that every day.” 🤦🏼‍♀️😂

He’s gonna be hooked for sure!🤣
We absolutely loved it when we had ours back in mid/late Oct 2018. I was feeling a bit under the weather that day though and it was overcast/dreary for a lot of it. Hoping for better weather the first week of June.

I actually just booked it, price we paid was $106.50 including tax. Since we are staying pool/marina view I am hoping we get our request to be in Samoa so it'll be super convenient to the room as well. Even if we don't come and go we will dip a bit before our time is up because we have dinner at Citricos that night.

Oh that will be such a nice day!! Last summer they had added snacks and drinks (hence the price increase) which is a nice touch! Hope you have great weather that day🤞
