Hawaii looking to lift mask mandates and testing this summer.

In politics, small but vocal often beats out quiet but doesn't vote in every cycle.
Yes but deep pockets and $ trump vocal minority.... something like a third of the State's economy is directly dependent on tourism and that moves to 45% once to account for the ancillary effects (the US Government accounts for the majority of what's left)

So, the latest updates were announced last week:

**as of 6/15 there are no travel restrictions for traveling inter-island. This means if you are island-hopping, you no longer have to test in between.
**as of 6/15 travelers who have had at least 1 part of their vaccination IN HAWAII, no longer need to do pre-travel testing to return to Hawaii
**once the population in Hawaii reaches 60% fully vaccinated, vaccination cards will be accepted for travelers from the US to Hawaii through the Safe Travels program
**once the population in Hawaii reaches 70% fully vaccinated, all travel restrictions will be lifted

We had widespread access and organization for vaccination very early on in Hawaii. I received my second dose 2/2. Many unions pushed through communication and online appointments. They used cruise docks and Kaiser to get a majority of it through early. News spreads fast and everyone affected wanted to get it fast. Teachers were approved to receive the shots very early on. They started in the schools (over 12 years) last month.

Does that mean kids below vaccination age will still be required to test when they're in the 60% threshold?

Jeeze and they're keeping mask mandates until 70% fully vaccinated!? That is absolute insanity.
The mask mandate is only for indoors now. Outdoors there is no mask requirement anymore.

And as to your question about kinds below vaccination age still being required to test or not, I'm not really sure about that. That's a good question though and I'll see what I can find out.

1. Requiring vaccinated people to mask does absolutely zero good for the well being of anyone's neighbors.

2. Rules apply to visitors as well as residents.

3. 70% is a silly number entirely unsupported by the science, and it's borderline impossible to achieve.

4. This entire thread and many others have been dedicated to people who don't live in a state discussing that state's reopening plans. Why wouldn't a person planning a Disney vacation care about the reopening plans in Florida, or California, or Hawaii (or Paris, or Tokyo, or...)?
I would say some care because they are planning a Hawaiian vacation including a Disney resort. I would think that is obvious given the discussion board you are posting on. :teleport:

I’m totally comfortable with the mask mandate indoors. I’m so used to it and don’t get out much. I am also down with making it optional if that is decided. It’s been super nice to see smiling tourist faces while walking around Ko Olina etc.

I wonder how other people in Hawaii feel. I’m definitely down with a mask mandate if it means opening up everything to full capacity for business as usual. If I were in a service job where wearing a mask was a detriment and nuisance to getting my work done comfortably, then I can see how you would want it to be optional. So yeah, I guess that said, optional is the way to go. I’m kind of waffling because I feel concerns about effectiveness of vaccine are valid even if minimally proven at this point. It will change though. We are on the way to opening one conservative step at a time.

Just visited Aulani this last March and would have loved to experience it without the mask. Maybe next time.

Inquiring it is one thing *****ing about it is another.

DISboards policy on COVID related discussions

The global COVID pandemic created unprecedented restrictions, disruptions and changes to our travel, work, shopping, schooling, social interactions and so many other aspects of our lives since the beginning of 2020. We’ve all been affected, and we have been inundated with news, information, mis-information, frustrations and opinions. We’ve heard them, we’ve shared them, we’ve argued about them.

The discussions, debates and arguments about the virus, distancing and masking policies, various politicians’ statements and actions have been overwhelming and divisive. Many threads on the DISboards have been derailed or devolved into arguments due to this topic. We understand the passion, but feel that we’ve let the discussions run their course. We are sure there are better places on the WWW to learn about and debate scientific, medical and political issues. The mission of the DISboards is to be a great travel resource and a friendly community.

Now that travel is opening up again, it’s time to refocus on that mission!

From this point on, we will welcome information on COVID policies RELATED TO TRAVEL. Things like the vaccination policies issued by venues or destinations, the cleaning or distancing procedures in use, practical tips for travelers or things they might need to know that are different from location to location are all valid topics. Any official policies issued by Disney, other travel destinations, cruise lines, airlines, etc. regarding requirements for visiting parks or cruising can be shared. This information needs to be on-topic for the specific forum and thread where posted.

We will NOT welcome debate or opinion about medical, scientific, or political aspects of the pandemic. There are a few often repeated trigger items that won’t be allowed: No statistics about infection rates, no ranting about individual rights, no “face-diaper” comments, no debate about whether vaccinations or masking are effective, no discussions about which governor or politician or news personality did or said what.

In summary: COVID related discussion should be limited to actual policy and practical application, and NOT veer into opinion or debate.

We understand that you may be passionate in your opinions on this topic and want to discuss or debate them, and appreciate your understanding that there are more appropriate places than the DISboards to do that.

Thank you,
DISboards Administrators
